Jolly Rancher Remix Review, Hersheypark Vekoma Boomerang | World's Best Boomerang?

Jolly Rancher Remix is the Vekoma boomerang at Hersheypark. This ride opened back in 1991 as Sidewinder, but it has received some major changes in recent years. In 2011, the original trains were replaced with new ones with vest restraints. Then in 2022, the ride was rebranded as Jolly Rancher Remix. This transformation gave the ride a new paint scheme, audio, lighting effects, and a tunnel that blasts you with candy scents, which will be a positive for most people. But for me, not so much.

Yeah I agree. I always thought Sidewinder was one of the smoothest boomerangs, at least with the Vekoma vest trains. I'm always legitimately excited to ride it when I visit Hershey.

@@CanobieCoaster I rode Flying Cobras for the first time this summer and I still had a good time because of the vest restraint trains. It was noticeably shakier than the Hershey installation though.

I've ridden speed of sound like around 50 times its a great Coaster its pretty smooth there is only one big Jolt (Walibi Holland is my homepark😂)

When I went to Hersheypark last month, I tried to get a front row ride on Stormrunner as the last ride of the night (ended up being my favorite ride in the park), but we were stuck on the launch track for 10 minutes, and then the ops rolled the train back to the station, and everyone on the train got walked up the exit onto Jolly Rancher Remix. The actual ride itself was pretty fun, and wasn't too rough.

Overall the retheme didn't change my opinion of it. Still a solid ride, now with better theming, but the smell part is a little odd. But riding as Sidewinder for many years with the vests is probably why it came as a shock when I learned how many in the community despise boomerangs.

Rode this on Saturday and it was so much better then when I rode it as Sidewinder in 2016 still very bumpy but having zero head banging was great

Going backwards on boomerangs normally makes me queasy to begin with because of the forces, especially on the older trains. With the upgrades, I’m sure this is a solid boomerang, but there’s no need for that smell tunnel in the worst possible location since it will likely make many people queasy. Neat idea though.

Honestly, after riding Remix, I still prefer Flashback at Great Escape. That one is glass smooth and it’s more forceful than the other boomerangs, I’m most definitely alone on this opinion.

Iv only ridden 2 Boomerangs and from experience, Invertigo is the most underated coaster at KI and probably one of the most underated coasters period. I don't mind some headbanging on the boomerangs, just as long as they are all forceful and you can feel the 4 - 5.2 Gs. I sure hope this has that intensity.

This is the best boomerang. This shows that you can turn a short clone into somthing unique. I also love the green vekoma track, it reminds me of the giant boomerangs and x flight at geauga lake.

I preferred the Sidewinder name and logo. I usually ignore this coaster as Hersheypark has so many really good coasters. The scent tunnel really doesn't do much for me.

What Jolly Ranchers I've tried are very realistic to the fruit, although of course this isn't candy or fruit it looks like the world's largest vape to me. I wouldn't really expect it to be sweet but could use sucralose or ethyl maltol cotton candy flavor. BTW finally tried Dolly's cinnamon bread, I've had a kind that wasn't sweet but that stuff is excessive!

I usually skip boomerangs if I have already ridden them since they aren't original layouts. I prefer to focus on the more unique rides at parks. The ones you said are smooth enough.

I’ve only ridden three boomerangs so far. This may be a hot take, but I feel like Zoomerang at Lake Compounce is actually pretty smooth. I still give this one the edge because of the trains, but it’d probably be a lot closer if Zoomerang got the new restraints.

Awesome review. Remix looks solid, especially for a boomerang. Speed of Sound actually looks pretty good, and I listen to the soundtrack all the time. Experiencing 5.2 g’s while being pretty nauseous sounds terrible, so I can understand why you find this ride to be hard to reride. One time I lapped Invertigo at KI twice in a row, and it was brutal. The transitions are horrible, and those horse collars are awful.

This review was a lot more positive than I thought. But I like this review nonetheless, and thanks to it, I've now decided which form I like this coaster most as. I haven't ridden this since the upgrade but I found it incredibly nauseating. Moreso than other boomerangs even with the better restraints. Also RIP hating candie is probably the saddest thing I could imagine. 😭 Overall I am quite disappointed Hershey didn't demolish this ride and use it for a completely new experience given their extreme lack of land as is.

I actually didn't notice the candy scent during my rides in late June of this year so I liked the ride. I'm also like you in that I hate overly sweet things. Still love milkshakes and green tea desserts and such but omg chocolate world makes me hurl. How the heck do people eat hershey's or like that smell. 1 half bite and I feel I need to drink half a gal of milk.
