Wow, that's really something to get him to talk about his vocal issues and admit they go back a decade now. Hopefully his voice will continue to improve, there sure was improvement from his private acoustic show last fall and the performance on Friday.
Now it makes sense why he sounded better, did not lose tempo, and was able to hit some higher notes with the band last week. Hopefully his voice will get better.
My thoughts exactly. He sounded a lot better on Friday night. Big test will be if they tune down the older stuff into a lower key to make it easier but so far things seem promising that he might be back to health. After all they can fix it in the studio - live is a different issue
This took balls, most people just pretend that it isn't happening. I respect the hell out of him for being real about it and for finishing all of his scheduled shows before possibly calling it a day. Jon, do what's best for you.
I know it's personal but he is loved all over the world and his fans would have helped lift him up. I hope his voice continues to heal. Shania Twain was initially told her voice issues were stress, they ended up being diagnosed as cranial nerve damage from Lymes. With the help of a good surgeon she is doing her best these days. Prayers for Jon, he has given us so much.
Finally, after wondering and worrying for so long, we have an answer directly from Jon, about what was wrong with his voice, and best of all, we can now look forward to hearing him sing with less difficulty. We LOVE you, Jon! Take good care of yourself! ❤❤

Respect to Jon to talk openly about his voice. And from what I heard from the Musicares event. It’s much improved over the 2020 tour. Hopefully he continues to improve.

The real reason why his voice is shot is because back in the Jersey tour days, rather than take the allocated days off between concerts Jon decided it was best to add more and more shows. His voice was so damaged he had steroids injected into his throat just to be able to go out and sing every night. He's bought it on himself.
@@jasonl1942 I'm 31 and I like some of Bon Jovi's music even though I wasn't born yet back then. The steroids injections story is one I've heard before about this time period, but the artist doesn't schedule the shows, that's management/agents, etc. I read an article entitled "Bon Jovi: How the New Jersey album nearly killed the band" from LouderSound about how exhausting the New Jersey tour was. The recording of the album and subsequent grueling tour was also back to back with the completed "Slippery When Wet" tour and they should've been able to have a well deserved rest, but that didn't happen. From quotes like this in the aforementioned article: "Jon later admitted that he had dreaded the moment of returning to the stage for the New Jersey tour after the insanity of their previous one: “I was on steroids, I had grown a beard for two weeks, there were black circles under my eyes,” he recalled. “We really shouldn’t have done that. I was like: ‘Stop, please, I’m dying.’ And they said: ‘We’ve still got to go to Australia, to Europe again…’. And, holy fuck, I just wanted to crawl into bed and die...The more money Jovi earned from being road dogs, the more McGhee got - it made sense to keep them busy.... They - management, the company, the agents - were only doing their jobs. But in retrospect they were all more than happy to make a buck on it. McGhee should have had the faith in us to say, this is not a flash in the pan, go home, we don’t need to make any more money. But he didn’t. None of them did..” I will admit that maybe Jon was too eager to get back out there in the beginning and didn't really think returning to the stage through but that doesn't mean he's at fault. The way I see it from the above quotes which I read in the LouderSound article management pushed the band to their limits in order to make money and as a result there were little to no days off for Jon to rest his voice or get proper sleep between shows after he had barely recovered from the "Slippery" tour. The article even mentions they unfortunately spent Christmas at a hotel in London at one point in the New Jersey tour, Christmas is a time to be with family and relax but they were still on the road because it seemed that their manager was a greedy type.
@PaperbackWriter92 good research, you are a fan. You are correct, management did push them, but Jon himself had the power to change that but didn't. Jon admits he was shooting his vocal cords back as early as the slippery era long before jersey ever started, (6:55 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IlY3nTzdgGQ.htmlsi=hojEdhRohPAPufGD) he was aware of the mistakes of the slippery tour but did nothing about them before the jersey tour started, even when he fired doc he still didn't learn from them when touring from the faith era onwards. The only real break he took is when he though he was going to be an 'actor' but when that failed, well... back to the recording touring grind. In fact, was it not richie who took issue with the constant touring schedules post keep the faith onwards when Jon managed his corporation? Jon responding and I quote: 'it's not a life sentence being in a band' - even though he's admitted he runs his employees with the mindset of the godfather and its mafia blueprint. I've followed them all along from when they first came out, they were brilliant. Slippery/Jersey and faith were them owning the world, and these days was their last best collaborative/creative record before Jon started chasing trends to stay popular and effectively rewriting livin on a prayer ad nauseum for every new album. If I have to hear an old timer multi millionaire sing about how his life is tough but he's stuck it to the man and done it his way I'm gonna puke. Born to be my baby was rewritten as born to follow, the new single also sounds like another rewrite too, it's all he does these days - no pun intended. If you like his direction, style of music and state of the band and his voice - all the more power to you. But I miss the old days when he actually had a real smile and life in his eyes, you can litterally see the difference change in him from interviews from Jersey to faith when he became CEO. Beyond that he fun spark is gone in liu of tired lifeless Jon His music today just plain sucks, he relies on sentimentality and nostalgia to survive but it's not enough. It's a shame but he torpedoed his own legacy.

Hoping his voice continues to heal, and respect for being honest here about something that must be incredibly difficult to open up about. The true fans are with you, Jon. You’ve had one of the greatest voices of music, we hope you get to stretch it one last time

Jon. If you meditate, I've been meditating for 45 years everyday, twice a day, and as a vocalist my neck spasms sometimes within 10 minutes of the meditation. Mediation heals the cords. Meditation is a natural surgery on the mind and body because it puts the body into a deep state of rest than deep sleep. You can be back to normal within a few months or sooner. For 18 years I sang in bars a few times a week, 30 to 40 songs a night. My vocals are still solid because I released the stress in the vocal cords in between shows. It's easy to learn and I teach it.

It was obvious jons vocal harmony wasn't the same, couldn't hit the high level as previous. Get well soon rock legend, give it time, it'll be right again soon. 🤗

I'm glad he's on the mend. I really loved the old Bon Jovi, but he should have been more upfront from the beginning. A lot of people didn't know he was having voice issues. My friend paid for the show in St. Louis that last tour and I've never seen her so mad. Concert tickets are expensive and the economy sucks. You should tell people what to expect, but I do hope he makes a full recovery. It would be great to see him live again when he's doing well. Hopefully, Richie gets back in there, too.
@mikedavis8008 Well he certainly had to know he wasn't giving them what they came for and he never addressed it in the interview. They should heavily discount this next tour.
@@russellspear6188 Well, I got the job done. I didn't make my employer pay me for nothing. That's a bit different than charging someone crazy amounts of money and then not being able to sing the songs.
@@katrinamillings3651 JBJ is a man. A man doesn't say "I'm not coming into work today because I don't feel good." A man shows up and gives 100% of what he has on that given day because he made a commitment to be there and he has a whole crew of people depending on him for their paychecks.
It's an interesting procedure where the surgeon places an implant to push one or both vocal cords closer together to allow the vocal folds to close and prevent the atrophy Jon is seeing on one of his vocal cords. With the proper vocal rehab, chances are very good he will regain much of what was lost over the past several years. Seems lke his recovery is doing well.
Grew up in the same town as this guy. Really don't like his politics and really was never a big fan of his music. But a very charitable guy and he's a pretty good human being. That is better than anything he ever did musically

What I don’t get is why the issues he mentioned had any bearing on what we’ve been hearing for the past few years. It wasn’t just an issue of him not being able to hit high notes. He was singing in an entirely different key than what his band was playing. His timing also seemed off. This is more indicative of a hearing issue than a vocal cord issue.

Last decade sounds about right. The Circle tour in 2010/2011 was still great but has been downhill from there. Every tour after that has been vocally worse than the previous one...

I’m still wondering about those chronic live vocal timing issues, and how it may relate to an actual vocal chord problem? I thought it to be more in line with something that was neurological.
I'm a vocalist and when l first heard about his voice l had to check it out and l tell you his voice was pretty painful to hear, l could never imagine getting up in front of any crowd to sound that bad. Jon sorry bud but you should hang it up and be glad you still have a voice. I hope you are successful and thanks for all the GREAT STUFF you gave.
I don’t care that he can’t sing anymore, he’s still the king of rock to me! Throughout the 80s and 90s, he had the greatest pop rock voice ever. Unfortunately, I believe he was singing all that time with poor technique and now he’s paying the price. Hopefully he can recover.
Damn he kept that under wraps I had no idea and I am a diehard fan!!!!! Thank goodness as well cause the new song sounds great backto his roots and not political!🫶🏻🫶🏻👍👍
I'm a Great fan of Jon, and I am not able to translate what he's speacking at once, as he speaks very fast. So now I prefer to write in Italian, as avevo capito che aveva problemi a cantare "alive". We can totally tell he went through some sort of vocal coaching as in the recent performance of Who Says from last week he sounds 85% better and isn’t struggling or gasping for air and he’s singing just like he did around 2013
@mikedavis8008 agree. They shouldn’t do an almost every night gig, my suggestion is at least 2 nights per week only and then move to another place and same.

There was alot of people commenting bad things about Jon's voice over the last couple years or so, we'll he's not a has been, he's had genuine vocal issues medical ones
Well, they commented because he sounded horrible and he never said why. People paid a couple hundred dollars for tickets and he couldn't sing the songs. Can you not understand that 's a lot of money for some people? Hopefully, he'll get more support now that he's being upfront about it.
Except for the fact that he's not being honest, the problem is not his surgery or his vocal folds. He's overmedicated obviously people are blind to the fact that he is lying to everyone he's overmedicated. His timing is off and out of breath, and that has nothing to do with your vocal folds. Think about it vocal folds. Have nothing to do with the power in your lungs or your timing and delivery. Think about what I'm saying, but it's clearly evident that he. He's lying to everyone. The surgery may have gave him temporary issues, but in the long run it has been the fact that he is overmedicated, and that's why it's affecting his performance, overmedicated.
Now can understand why the album 2020 wasnt good at all plus to political with this new song the orginial Jon is back and the voice in great shape!!!! Ty to his doctor for sure!!!🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻👏👏👏
Thank you, that was great. I think this man is either A. abolutely delusional B. has alzeimer and is deaf C. has the biggest insecurity and ego ever and has to stay performing (charge people €100’s for terrible ‘singing’) to feel he means something in life.
So that last tour in last spring, he was recovering from vocal surgery? I love Jon I mean wow I’m a big fan but I can’t help but wonder or try to understand why he would tour while recovering from vocal surgery. The concert tickets were very expensive. It just doesn’t sound like something he would do.

Idade? Não.......ele é um jovem de apenas 62 aninhos, fumou por muito tempo, dizem que parou em 2000 observem como o poder cega a pessoa a ponto de não perceber que cigarro atinge o seu maior instrumento a voz. A vida cobra.
How do you record a new record when you are in a “recovery” phase? Update: I heard their new single yesterday and I can see how he recorded a new record while during the recovery phase……he’s not singing anything that’s too taxing on his voice. It just sounds like any other Bon Jovi single from the last 20 years. Not my cup of tea so I’ll keep relishing the first 3 or 4 records
Shame he didn’t open up about this sooner before so many switched off from his performances he shouldn’t have been charging for. Would’ve had far more respect if he’d been vocal (pardon the pun) about this far sooner rather than keep abusing the goodwill of the paying fans with poor singing and for so long too. Hope this is fixed and he gets Richie back on board so we can get the real Bon Jovi back out there not the shower of *** we’ve had this past 12 years
His vocal problems began in Sept 1986 when he cancelled early Slippery When Wet gigs because of his voice problems. Doctors gave him steroids and he engaged a vocal coach to train him on how to preserve his voice. This has been an ongoing problem.
Well that's great. I wonder why he didn't tell the public, who have been paying sick amounts of money during that time to go watch him struggle. I love BJ but it doesn't make sense to me that he'd do that to his fans.
To whom it applies to: You don't have to like his singing, but you can damn sure respect Jon Bon Jovi's work ethic. Yeah, he got hurt. He got hurt doing his best to entertain people like you. It's nice how you're so loyal to the guy in return. He destroyed his throat so you people could have some enjoyment.
He should lyp sync on his tours if he can no longer sing, better than sitting home all day . Fans don’t seem to mind when Britney, Janet and co mime their shows.
Perhaps you shouldnt have shot your vocal cords with steroids back in the jersey tour days instead of pushing you and the band harder and actually taken some time between shows to let your voice rest.
Jon got to this point in hurting his vocal cords because he exerts way way to much energy to sing. He was singing way too loud. Dropping his jaw and opening his mouth way too wide. Veins popping out of his neck. Way too much tension in his neck area. This should not be happening. He needs to massively support every breath he takes with his diaphragm. He’s all in his throat and not supporting properly, hence his cords taking a beating. Every single breath you take needs to be supported and not shallow breaths, which is all he’s doing. Especially for higher range stuff, need to brace your stomach like you’re going to take a punch to the gut. Look at Tommy Shaw, still killing it, original keys, it’s because he knows what he’s doing. Whatever teacher Jon has or had, is not teaching him correctly. I really like him and hope he can get better and back out there. But all this surgery won’t amount to any improvements for the most part if he keeps singing the way he has. He might be a bit better now, but after three nights of two and a half hours, I doubt he will last unless he changes his bad habits.
He could have hooked up with Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy a decade ago when he really started to loose the voice. But then he wanted to cash in on the brand. Now he blames God for it. Own your bad mindset mistakes JBJ; quit smoking and get help for the love of God. You’re embarrassing your brand and the band.
That is fine Jon but when you can't sing then DON'T TOUR!When you do you are just ripping off your fans. That would be like a guitarist touring with broken fingers.
I agree, I paid $650 for two tickets last Spring in Savannah and it was literally the worst show I’ve ever seen, not just by Jon, but any of the more than 140 live shows I ever seen. I love jbj and I hate that he’s been going through this, but I left that show feeling like I’d been had…
Hears a thought in stead of disrespecting him why not support jon your clearly not a true fan oh and the guy has been srewing his arse of since the 80s and before right up to now your voice will change he's doing this for his fans true fans please do comment ill be waiting
