Lyoto said what he was thinking in a previous fight before this when he got caught in a submission. “I’m gonna die, but I’m not gonna tap” and he ended up sticking by his words. Wild.
@@sinistermartialarts3728 Found it. If you forward to the end of the fight , to his interview. He says it right here. This was back when he was in his prime. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8dMS78qwXNU.html
I think it's the best. A great fight overall to show to a new mma fan/someone unaware of the sport to catch their intrigue. Very stylish fighters plus a finish.
8:50 "Jon here's the deal, after you kick he likes to throw that straight left at you... FAKE THE KICK" 14:03 Jon Jones fakes the kick, Lyoto is about to throw his straight left, Jon Jones catches Lyoto with the left hook (almost knocking him out)... Jon Jones coaches are underrated
Yeah bro and not to mention the trust and attentiveness he had to listen and execute. That second round he fed Lyto kicks to set up for that feint kick to wobble him with that left. Honestly amazing
such an amazing fight, Lyto is an amazing fighter, he countered John whenever he threw the same strike more than once, then John faked that move and countered Lyto's counter.
Credit to Jones too, he also very coachable. He might be a madman, piece of shit, but you can tell when he says which side do you want to throw it from, he is listening and deciding how he wants to put that coaching to the best use
I'm impressed with Jon Jones's Fight IQ when he sees he's losing he always devises a strategy to win no wonder he's one of the greatest fighters of all
He recognized how Lyoto was beating him that’s why. Every great fighter makes adjustments and Jon’s very high IQ is due to him watching every single fight his opponents have ever had and just studying it non stop till the moment they step in the cage. It’s not even so much strategy I think he just kinda instinctively knows what to do and how to get his win. Especially during his prime , this particular era is when he openly said on Joe Rogan that he used to get WASTED the entire week leading up to his fights just to give himself an excuse INCASE he lost.
As soon as Jon figured out Machias plan he won. Lyoto had success by waiting for Jon to kick and countering with a blast of punches. Once jon realized that the fight was over
Legit people didn’t notice this. Bones’ coach told him exactly what to do and he did it and within a few minutes Lyoto was shook enough to be damaged and choked
Yeah it's amazing how tuned the coach was to the movements. I rewatched the first round you can see exactly what they were referring to. When Jon has his right leg forward and kicks with his left, Lyoto countered right away with a left, you only see this when Jon has that stance. 2nd round moments before the choke, Jon faked that left kick and caught Lyoto with a short left jab...wow good catch.
Jones was only 24 years old here and i remember watching him when i was in high school 16 years old. Still watching him today as im 28 years old and he's still a an UNDEFEATED CHAMPION is really crazy.
@@warZ1270 Who cares. I’m not looking for a babysitter. We’re watching 2 guys fight in a cage for money. He’s a shit human because he ran off from a car crash or did or does cocaine. Argued with a woman he’s been with for 20 years? The horror. Kick it tonight with your 40 cats
Jones admitted how hard this fight was, he said in the first round lyoto would time those blitz’s well and catch him hard with a good punch but in the corner before the second round he realized to fake the leg kick that lyoto was countering then throw a big shot that won him the fight
I remember when lyota was undefeated and destroying everything he still one of my favorites of all time to see him fall like that was hard to Watch Jon Is a beast
@@alhfgspIn traditional fighting actually you give the opponent his respect no matter what. Problem here is that the choke is the end and to drop an unconscious man is not only POS dirty but also dangerous for head and neck injuries. If the fighter is out standing and the fight is stopped it must be secured the security and doctors are holding him til he is controlled on the floor. If I was Lyoto I ld have sued UFC for this.
The eye poke threat basically negated all of Machidas upper body options. People didn't realize what he was doing at the time, but having the outstretched fingers in the other guy's eyes the whole fight makes a huge difference.
This fight quite literally inspired me to start training combat sports. Everything about this fight was just the coolest shit 13 year old me had ever seen. Seeing Jon almost look human in the first round just for him to nearly murder Lyoto in the octagon was the coldest shit ever and immediately made me want to be able to replicate it lol.
@@outis439-AHe's saying if he throws that kick again from either stance, then stay off the centerline because that's when lyoto is going to come with the blitz and trip.
It's crazy Jon Jones has fought 28 times and 16 of them were title fights , either defending or fighting for. That says a lot about the level of talent he has that more than half of his career fights are title matches. 🐐
Dammm Jones looked fresh the entire time and his skills are deadly what a finish. Lyoto was outclassed and looked like he got killed but went out like a warrior to the bitter end great fing fight.
@@hermestrismegistus8007 Jon didn't train for this at all if you remember. Plus Jons striking came a long long way after this fight. That said, Jon was beating him pretty easily when he went at him.
@@billj4525 nah bro. Outclassed is what O’Malley did to that green haired kid. Or when Holloway grabbed brothers hands mid fight just to teach him how to block a punch. Or maybe how stipe did ngannou the first time. Know what I mean? Jones actually had to FIGHT Lyoto. He just fought better. That’s my opinion at least.
That elbow to the forehead knocked Lyoto senseless on the ground ... didn't know which way his corner was. Def turning point and he was done (hence guillotine very soon after).
Huge props to machida for out striking Jones while being 10.5" down on reach. Jones is no joke but you have to wonder if he wasn't gifted with reach how well he'd do.
@@desotohybrid2175 Yes, I am. This is a sport, not elementary school. Criticism Is a part of life. When you have 84" reach and get outboxed by someone 10" in deficit, that warrants criticism. Get used to it.
Still is... he’s the 🐐. I want to see him fight Ngannou so bad, so he can shock the world again. If only Dana would pay these guys then we’d actually get “all” the fights we want.
Forgive the multi comments but I just have to say; With these 2 on the mics & Big John in the middle it seems to make even the most elevated, marquis match ups, into an even more epic or biblical or consequential an event than they already are. Even a confrontation such as this, with 2 Legends, in what was once the worlds greatest city&country, would be diminished were any of the 3 absent. I miss Goldy like crazy. I love Rogan, but I feel Goldy somehow drew out the best that Joe possessed on any given night when they worked together👍😁❤️🇨🇦🍻
Early in the first round Rogan say regarding Machida's blitz on Jones, that it was the hardest and cleanest Jones ever got hit. Play it back on slow speed, that left from Machida didnt even hit Jones lol, it totally missed him. There was a second blitz at the end of the round and Machida threw like 6 punches. This times he did hit Jones but only once and it was not very powerful. Jones was so goddamn dominate that this was considered a great offensive attack because back then no one could do anything to this kid. Listen i am not even a Jones fan, Im a die hard Shogun fan. Jones back when he had killer instinct was the best fighter I ever saw, period. Machida just two fights earlier was thought as being almost unbeatable, The Machida Era. Jones literally destroyed him.
Yeah man, totally agree with that. Joe's eyes were completely betraying him here. That left didn't connect. Machida was definitely the first opponent who didn't appear to be fazed by Jones' reach, but in the end, he merely landed some insignificant shots and got finished very early.
That was actually the third major blitz and they weren't talking about the left hook. They were talking about the body kick that Machida hit Jones with which actually did hit him clean and produced a huge slap sound. He then hit Jones again with a solid left hook from the last major blitz from the 1st round which actually made Jones get off balanced and even the slowed down replay showed that it did hit him clean. That is why Jones's corner immediately started to think of a counter to Machida's blitz because they realized that his blitz was problematic and had to be countered.
Jones actually lost the first round. Machida stole the round with his offense and counter striking and I’m pretty positive it’s the first round Jones ever lost in the UFC so we have to give Machida props for that. Jon had to make adjustments in the second round, but that’s why he’s the best. 🙏🏼
Anderson Silva should have fought Jon Jones at this point. Silva was handling light heavyweights quite easily & did better against common opponents like Bonnar, Sonen & Belfort.
Parabéns Lyoto pelo menos vc representou não foi fácil parabéns,parabéns mesmo pq tem brasileiros que faz maior cena e quando chega na luta perde sem nem lutar... parabéns
Machida had been putting up a great fight, closing the distance on Jones and counterpunching quickly. It is enough for them to go to the floor for Jones to bring out all his ability. But still great Machida fight
what jones did this fight was great but the first round was to Machida and him attacking of its leg kicks was insane to see as he has a 10 inch reach disadvantage
Recently was learning the technique that Jon Jones put Machida to sleep at an mma class, and I now realize how flawless Jon Jones was at it because I was struggling to learn it.
Man!, Jones moves in that special way that only comes when a man KNOWS how dangerous he is. Machita is an absolutely perfectly skilled, talented, experienced and ruthless, lightning fast intelligent assassin, and he ALSO moves like a man who knows how dangerous Jones is.....🤔 I wonder if there is a word, in any language, that properly encapsulates that?
How someone can strike from a motionless stance like that is terrifying. Machida doesn't dance around or wind-up in any way. Just sniper shoots you out of nowhere. There is nobody else like The Dragon who hits you the way he does.
Actually heard a sick commentary moment when I was watching jones vs Gustafson fight. They said that they weren't really sure if Jon could take bombs until this particular fight. After they saw him take some serious strikes from machida they knew he had some grit. That's how they knew Gustafson had to hit him hard to put him down
It waz the left hand Which was stuck so the ref thought He(Lyoto) Was trying to push his hand up. But then realized and saw it was stuck amd Lyoto Machida is out! Cold!
Jones is that once in a life time guy that comes along and breaks all records he's tall lanky but is a awesome wrestler with a massive reach so you need to try and get inside but if you do get inside you seen what he done to Dan cormier who is hands down one of the best wrestlers in MMA par Jones look what cormier done to Henderson shit ruthless.
