Unbelievable, extraordinarily talented human being, so simple and so deeply profound, so committed to transmit to his audience real feelings and emotions one cannot prevent ❤
Werther manic depressive? Bipolar? I don't see that. I see a relatively young man in the 1800 or earlier who has never experienced love. And pow ! Lightening hits and he is overwhelmed. As is Don Carlo, Don Jose, de Grieux and many other heroes of the opera. They could never swap to another love as one changes a shirt. The " easy way?" Not likely with these men. That's what makes them so passionate And exciting. Opera is an exaggeration of life, perhaps. My grandfather loved like this, even when my grandmother grew old and very ill. so there are men who love that much .But back to Werther. When he is dying and says perhaps a woman will pass by. And shed a tear, I think he means Charlotte not just any girl. The pain he felt without her is too far beyond Dolcissimo soffrir. It is too strong probably because Charlotte shows him. That she too feels the same. He's not being truly discouraged. He is always given little glimpse of hope by her. She's unhappy with her husband. She urges him to stay and translate a poem when he wanted to leave. She also suffers.
