Man I was one of those that predicted this last season. I am a Habs fan and saw how Drouin had fallen. The chemistry that he and Mackinnon showed in Halifax was on display last night. I am happy for him hes a very good player who just needed the right situation
Only with the Avs. He did not do all those things in Tampa and in Montreal. He has always been a great passer but he very often was invisible. I am happy for him and he seems ot have found his confidence. I hope that he continues to play the way he has cause when he loses that configence, it is painful to watch.
@@randombutrelevant1606Why do you feel the NEED to hate on Drouin? Why not just be happy for him after what he went through? Does that make you feel "superior"?
No character in Montreal He has no pressure now No character to play in Intense Market. Full Talent but very little Grind in him... Just wait next year......
I think a big part of the early season slow start for dru was playing with Johansen. That guy was ruining whatever line you put him on. There's a reason the Avs had to give up a first rounder just to get rid of him....
Not really, because those two never really played together. Drouin was on first line for the first part of the season, then played with Colton on third line when Nuke was on 1st. Then Drouin went back up to first line. Johanson lost Lehkonen and Tatar, and played random times with Nichushkin, but then also lost Nuke when he went to rehab. Nice try though. Watch more hockey.
@@pphsports3748 I’d love to watch more if these games weren’t constantly blacked out. That said, you can make a point without being a dick about it. Then again maybe you can’t…cuz you know…yer just a dick.
I believe in a few MORE great games aside McKinnon the confidence and comradery will take off even higher. They seem to feed off each other more with every passing game.
It’s easy to praise a guy for doing anything while making 850k, but at 5.5M and sitting out playoffs while the rest of the team makes it to the cup final is a different story. Montreal expected too much from him and he can’t handle pressure, it was a horrible mix.
Needed to re-sign him January 1st. His skills are a bit redundant to Mittelstadt, makes it harder to fit him in the top 6 and they’ve got to commit to Mid long term unfortunately.
The way Drouin is playing right now and being able to be on MacKinnon line i think he is pricing himself out of the Avs. He could possibly want to be paid this off-season. Or maybe CMACK and Sakic also MacKinnon will convince him to stay.
That OT goal from last night was absolutely insane, if you watch the replay and blurr out the name and number you would almost think it was MacKinnon with that disgusting move in front if the net but no it was Jonathan Drouin, the fact that he has the ability to do that and play on pretty much any line added on top of MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Makar and possibly Landeskog, and then factor all of that with their depth pieces like Colton, Mittlstat, Trenon, Duhaim etc the Avs are gonna be an extremely tough out in the playoffs
I think Nate did take a slight cut, its just not obvious right now. After a couple more years of cap hikes, his free market value will be above what hes getting paid, and im sure his agent told him that, and he signed anyway
Drouin made his money with his previous contract. If he is wise he would now stay with the Avs for 1M/year and enjoy what count: good ice time, good teammates and victories.
There is zero chance, even with a hometown discount, that Drouin is only getting paid $1M after this season. Not an exact equation but the typical going rate for forwards in free agency is about $1M per 10 points the previous season. Drouin is already at 46 and in all likelihood, will finish with over 50 for the season so he’ll be somewhere in the $4M-$5.5M range at free agency. Maybe he takes a Miles Wood type contract at $2.5M-$3M per year long term but as much as us fans think taking a hometown discount to win championships sounds like the way to go, not usually the way it ends up going.
he is gonna get paid this off season. i hope the avs can keep him. i feel terrible but at this point i would kind of rather landy not come back.. if he is just gonna be a shell of his former self taking up 7m in cap space that would essentially close the avs window..
@@melanisticmandalorian8909 I would agree. They could potentially trade Manson and Girard to sign Walker and Mitts. It would suck to lose the others, but I think these new guys fit our system better
Good analysis. I wonder about next year. Fair chance Landy will never play in the NHL again (I hope I'm wrong), and if so, they'll need a gritty offensive compliment to the top 6......and that could be JoDru. He's (the past 40+ games) surrounded by players who go all-out, night after night, and it's timely motivation for a guy who seemed to be doubting himself. As for Landy, it was suggested (by team Docs) that he rehab his knee after the injury, but he chose to find doctors who thought surgery would get the knee(s) in better shape, more quickly. The risky surgery, as team docs warned, was not a miraculous success, whatsoever. Sure hoping he can rehab his way back to the NHL. If so, I sure hope he can get back close to where he was. Fingers crossed. Go Avs!! The next few weeks are sure to be intense all across the NHL.
68 gms 14 g 32 a 46 pts is still not impressive. it is how he will mentally handle the pressure. remember he was booted out of TB and in Montreal he had the chance to revitize his career but could not handle it....
Drouin needs to sign for two more years with the AVS, maintaining that bargain status, proving his worth along side MacK, guided by Bednar and then go for the massive contract to close out his remaining years. He will be happy and "reset" his worth in a massive way. He probably won't pull in the same stats going somewhere else after this season, only proving his talent is where he is comfortable. Prove who he could be and then take that massive contract. Signed, a selfish AVS fan!
No way in hell was Drouin going to get 5 or 6 million next year. Even with his good play as of late, he doesn't deserve an investment of $5-6 million just yet. He'd need to prove he can put up 60 points a year next year. So the best bet is to sign him again to another 1 year deal but this time worth maybe $3 to $3.5. Then if he puts up 60+ points again, the Avs can try and sign him for a longer term deal and let go of whoever else (Colton/Wood/Parise etc). I'd say he's worth $6-7 million on a 2 year on contract. Hope he can stay with the Avs but if the Avs win another cup in 2024, then I'll die happy and not worry if Drouin can stay or not....I just want him and the Avs to win another cup with MacKinnon.
If he performs in the playoffs he’s gonna get offered at least 5 million somewhere. It won’t be the Avs but there no way he doesn’t get paid if he plays well in a cup run. I’d agree though that if he’s finishes the season poorly, he won’t be seeing a very big payday
Man there is alot of salt in this comnent section from people who wish their team was as well ran as the Avs lol. Lets see, Drouin was solid in Tampa and solid in Colorado but sucked in Montreal. Huuh, maybe Montreal was just a horribly run and coached organization all along.
@@mikescorpio13 Good, i had nothing against him, other then the fact he'd seem to disappear for a few months at a time. Three years in a row, he played 30 games, 40 games the next year, and 30 again the next, and it wasnt injuries, some of the time it was. Anyway, im glad he's happy and producing.
Me too, Montreal is happy with bad coaching, especially Martin St. Louis, and remaining in the poor excuse of rebuild mode. Their losing record this year is a result of many years of bad coaching, and a settle for less fan base. One thing I noticed about the Montreal media is their constant demeaning, negative attitude towards all players they don’t “like”. It’s a hateful atmosphere. Happy for any player who leaves that team.
@@marshallman7550 I wish i could argue with your points, i have been a Habs fan for 45 years, and u pretty much nailed it. St louis definitely has favorites, and players that he just doesnt like. Also that arena will sell out no matter how shitty the team is, and management won't go after a big name player, because they dont like flashy players, ask PK subban. I know people that say they are going to go after Leon Draisaitl, and trevor Zegras, no they're not, they're going to go after players like Kirby Dach, high draft picks, that didnt work out on other teams, because somehow they are going to come to Montreal, and just start killing it. It doesn't work that way, it seems to work the other way. Like John Leclair, he played in Montreal, couldnt score 20 goals, goes to Philly, instantly a 50 goal scorer... Jonathan Drouin, couldnt play 30 games a season in Montreal, goes to Colorado, he's killing it there, (for him). Oh well, their D is really good, goaltending is picking up, all they really need now, is offence, that's where they'll screw it up, Habs have always been D or goaltending first, same as this "rebuild". Oh well, i will still continue to cheer for them, been a fan too long to change teams now, couldnt do it! lol. Go Habs Go!!! Maybe they can trade Reinbacher, and get Ryan Leonard, maybe it's not too late to fix that HUGE mistake.
a steal???? you got him for free cause nobody wanted him...playing on a contract year always make those player move their feet faster. Have fun while it last.
