Hi everyone! I saw the comments about JVN being non-binary and want to apologize. I didn’t realize the mistake I was making and hope no one takes offense to it. I especially want to apologize to Jonathan because I never want that sweet soul to think it was intentional. Also, these videos are meant to be fun, educational, and spur conversation around skincare, so I hope everyone keeps that mind. There’s never ill-intent and I never want someone to feel cut down. I’m always open to a good conversation and/or debate. And even more important, some education. Big hugs and kisses to all of you! 😘

@@ursulak.2691 It's actually not nonsense, trans and non binary people have existed since the beginning of recorded human history! (and I bet you not one of them has identified as a lamp) There are tons of online resources to educate yourself further, but if you don't want to learn then it's probably best to just not say anything. History as well as science are not on your side on this issue. Thanks you Susan for clarifying! It was obvious that it was a totally unintentional mistake but it's still great for you to show your support :) I love watching your videos for lots of reasons, but especially because of the positive light you give off and this is a great example of that!

JVN is trans non binary (he IDs as gender queer as well). She sometimes feels like a boy, sometimes a girl, and uses a variety of pronouns, but he does primarily use he/him (but uses she/her and they/them as well). I won't be responding to any repetitive "I identify as attack helicopter/oven/[non-gender]" comments or 'jokes' in the future, so ya know, try to be funny w a joke as old as chuck norris jokes ig if u rlly wanna prove ur unfunny.

I can only speak for my boyfriend BUT I can see that especially in the upper lip moustache area his skin is sooo flaky. I try to get my skincare in there but honestly the beard absorbs everything before it gets to his skin lol.

Using just concealer and blending it out evenly can 100% be done well. It just has to be a concealer that matches your skin tone. NOT a lighter concealer you might use under your eyes. The key to the no-makeup concealer look is skin prep, targeting the places that need coverage with a tiny amount first with a tap and then blend it out all over with a fluffy brush (like a crease brush). It helps diffuse it and blend it all into your skin tone. MUA Katie Jane Hughes has perfected this technique.

I stopped setting my concealer because my skin is dry and I’m getting older. Tarte and Fenty do not settle in lines for me so it works out great!

Agree. They major concealers that set themselves now and some ppl with dry/crepey under eyes don’t like setting their concealer. She gives advice that’s very “the norm” and def with makeup it’s whatever works for you.

mac prolongwear concealer and oily skin works well, almost never settles unless i apply too much. the secret is also in applying smaller amounts and blending well.

I think re: concealer alone and setting it, it can really depend on the concealer itself as well as your skin type and the location you’re applying it. I would never use a more full coverage concealer by itself for example and concealer under the eyes that isn’t set is a nightmare omg. But lighter coverage concealers that are more dewy to natural vs matte look fine alone and unset as long as it matches my skin tone. But I don’t have much to cover and I finish up with some cream blush and liquid highlighter and brows/mascara/gloss if I’m running errands or dropping off at daycare.

THANK YOU SUSAN!!! BLESS, THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 for pointing out the issues with him diluting his sunscreen + the fact that mineral filters also absorb UV light. So few people are aware of that and continue to perpetuate the myth that inorganic sunscreens just 'scatter' light. I was literally watching this and thinking about how much misinformation there is in the video. Also, he calls himself a skincare expert but also uses retinol during the day so..... not sure how I feel about that one. But THANK YOU!!

@Plop Plop As a phenolic compound, Bakuchiol is reasonably active and I can't find any research to suggest that it is/isn't stable under ultraviolet light, so I can't prove or disprove that argument. The formula does, however, have furanocoumarin containing citrus essential oils which can produce extreme inflammatory reactions when exposed to UV light so I would advise against using it during the day.

I will say in response to your concealer comments, concealer actually tends to work really well on male skin by itself. As you already know, concealer (often) has a thinner consistency than foundation while still providing enough coverage to conceal. I find they are (again, often) more emollient as well, so they blend more readily into the skin than foundation with less texture. This is very important for men who want an undetectable finish as we tend to have larger pores and more texture than women naturally. I find I can just use them where I need and it's undetectable. I have tried multiple high end, well loved foundations and they always leave more texture than concealer in my experience. I also use way less than a woman who is really concealing the undereye, which could help explain the differences in our personal experiences with concealer. Setting with powder often helps, but actually depending on the way the concealer sets itself it isn't always necessary. I use the dermablend concealer, and I find that sets to a demi matte almost powder like finish that doesn't require powdering. If you watch male minimalist makeup routines you will see many just use concealer as their base and there is a reason for that!

You're right about the amount of sunscreen, but 1 tbsp. is not the correct amount either based on what I have read. I have read 1/2 tsp. for your face and neck (which is still more than a lot of people are likely to use... I measured out my Cerave sunscreen and it was about 6 pumps). Of course this also depends on the surface area of your face. I have also read 2 milligrams per square inch of face, which honestly might be worth measuring because sunscreen is so important! A tablespoon seems like way too much though.

Yeah a tablespoon is equivalent to half an ounce, or half a BOTTLE of many sunscreens, which is absolute insanity.

Hi Susan! Is there a difference between mixing your sunscreen with moisturizer when you apply it versus putting on moisturizer right before your sunscreen? Hi Susan, can you make a video talking about certain chemicals in SPFs like octinoxate, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate? I've stopped using sunscreens with that in it and have only been using SPF with zinc oxide because I've read that the other chemicals could affect our hormones.

I’ve been having the HARDEST time finding a retinol-type product I can use while breastfeeding!! Going on 3.5 solid years 😅 so I’ve definitely waited a while! I’ve never used anything w. Ali Turner - is using topical retinol/retinoids that bad while breastfeeding? I’ve avoided it for the most part while pregnant, but every study I’ve read says little to none is absorbed into the bloodstream so it doesn’t really make a difference. Is the fear that it’ll physically transfer from your skin to the baby’s skin and cause a reaction? Honestly, so much info out there and it all seems to contradict itself!

The skin is really underestimated with what it can absorb actually, you can heal entire deficiencies like magnesium and iodine just topically, it’s our largest organ

Does thick facial hair like his affect the penetration of skincare products? And will it also affect or benefit the facial hair in some way?

Doll Face I would think that it affects, as most of the product actually stays IN the beard and doesn't land on your skin surface

@@zanevitola569 That makes a lot of sense. Thank you. My boyfriend has a thick, long beard and I've been figuring if I should apply my moisturizer on the roots of it. lol Like really dig in to his chin, jaw and cheeks.

My skincare game is pretty strong but I reallyyy need a good sunscreen thats not too thick, will not clog my pores (I have combination skin, its oily & sensitive) I also need to be able to purchase it in Holland, so any recommendations?

I don’t know about you all, but I definitely don’t wake up like that! He looks already flawless, energetic and radiant. Me on the other hand looks like I was hit by a truck and I start functioning 2 hours after my alarm went off ;)

Yes! Please venture into tips/products for skin conditioning under facial hair! I honestly spread my facial skin products through my facial hair anyways. I’m curious if I should be using something more specific or in addition. Thanks Susan!

What are the clips/brand of clips that JVN is using and that you use on your hair, Susan? Interested to know if it's a specific brand of clip that doesn't dent the hair or all of them. Thank you!
