More and more people seem to be discovering or re-discovering the brilliant Jonathan Winters after knowing how important he was in Robin William's own career. May the both rest in peace!
As soon as I saw Robin Williams in Mork and Mindy I knew instantly who Robin reminded me and that was Jonathan Winters. I loved them both. RIP Jon and Robin.
What makes this man and his work so loved? Simple, he was FUNNY without having to be VULGER and use the F-word like it was his middle name. He was fresh, unpredictible and could literaly "pull it out of nowhere off the cuff" You could drop this guy into a "white room" and he could make you see, hear, and feel anything his mind came up with. He was pure comedic talent & timeing. And he never let it go to his head, he was grounded & real and it showed. That is why he was so loved by people.
I've got to put this up as a general question. What is it about this man that he is all but universally loved? I have yet to see (although I'm sure they're out there) anyone who dislikes Mr. Winters. My take is his whacky, clean & unpredictable humor which I think we all admit we have (to some extent), whether we can express it or not. More importantly, I think it's his humbleness and sincerity that strikes a chord - you feel he is not bs-ing you. Observations gladly welcome.
JW was an incredible man not only as an actor but as a human being. I totally forgot Jonathan Winters was in Mork & Mindy but I recall watching the show back then and it all came back to me as soon as I saw the reference. I've seen almost everything he's done over the last century and he's one of those few you can say was loved by all. If there was ever anyone to look up to he was it :) He was the definition of a good man.
