Answering the question everyone asks. X-torq vs. Original Edition builds. And what is the difference between these simple modifications we make and a Stock Saw.

Love the sound of them Big Ol Saws. Thanks for the straight up review on the VersaCut Oregon Bar. Its Nice to get an Honest Opinion with out having it skewed buy lack of knowledge, misinformation or just unwillingness to accept anything but what there hear or see. For me I would take anyone of those saws for cutting firewood, a 4sec difference in my opinion is neel when cutting firewood, I would actually be more concerned with weight and vibration. But hey I really like the 575/576 platform.

I always enjoy your videos on the saws. You may be winning me over on the jonsereds it seems a few have sneezed into the work line at the moment. And have been enjoying using them. I will be looking forward to see the solo running. Take care

Ahhhh teaser at the end😂 can’t wait to see that big Solo eat some wood! Thanks for sharing, great stuff as usual.

The only problem is you modded away the distinct sound the stock saw makes (I really prefer that sound)! You have to find more of those 22-24 inch cookie logs for all future comparisons because I think that demonstrates where those saws really come into their own. I've had my Shindaiwa/Echo 620P for a couple years now and it still impresses me (one step higher on the ladder) each time I run it (unless the chain is dull : ) and it will melt through 16 inch red oak but I won't be able to push it through 2 foot wood.

Walt - With that big old Solo you should give Leon Crouch a shout (Leon's Chainsaw Parts and Repair) as he is talking about doing a 100cc shootout amongst classic 100cc saws after he does his planned 80cc shoot out...

Thank you for the quick review on the VersaCut, I am presuming your logger buddy did a lot of bore cutting. Maybe once there is snow and cutting season is over, please do a detailed comparison on time/type of cutting/wear. Say hello to Bob!

I guess you have heard that Husqvarna is going to bring back the 365 & 372XP versions - no AutoTune. I think Stihl has also seen the light because I have seen 441 and 461 without that Mtronic crap on them at local Stihl dealers.
@afleetcommand

Yup , they did that when the 575/576 came out and even while the 576 was arguably a better saw than the early x-torq's they did it anyway. They have them sorted out and they have a following. Plus they are cheap to build. Guess it makes sense

Great video Walt! Gotta disagree with you on the bars though. The total branded tsumura bars are far superior to the versa cut. In both durability/longevity and they're stiffer as well.
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 2 года назад
Actually I can quantify thr difference between Tsumara and Oregon. EVERY Total/Tsumara I sold to a logger didn't make two weeks before the tip blew out. That's around 20 bars that failed with four different logging outfits. Really hurt my credibility because I bought the online BS and invested. The reason I still had so many this last couple of years is I couldn't GIVE them away to the customer base I support. So I used them on my saws or put them on for sale saws...still have a few Stihl mount to rid myself of. My Tsumara's lasted as long as I didn't bore cut. Great bar steel, weak tip & sprocket. Cool looking. But even then I had a tip failure on one of my hobby saw bars. So they go on the saws I sell at county auctions, and on the hobby vintage saws. NONE of the Oregon versacuts I have failed in any way , ALL my work saws wear them now and have for a couple of years and the ones I got the loggers I support to buy last an entire season. To the point one logger bough 10 at a clip. So Not even close. :) And that's before the price difference. What I see is those experts on the subject argue, usually cookie cutting logs like that is a true measure is right along side. And the argument is supported with cyber evidence. Unfortunately for me I had to learn the hard way with Tsumara's and that was one of my first true introductions to the "real" life in my part of the world with folks making a living with a saw.

I thought the 48mm, 2nd saw you cut with, was the best of the bunch and surpassed the 2175, 51.4 mm, by a considerable margin. Please remember the 360 has ab48 mm top end and while my 30 does not have all those goodies you put n that 48 mm build it has a brand new Stihl carb on it. I heard one of you saws screaming for more gas, screaming feed me.

Other than building is stock the only other route I would take those is to an OEM 272 build, things like intake manifold along with the cylinder would have to change. :)

Great video. What do you think about Husqy 365 x torq? Is worth it to make a muffler mode ?
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 3 года назад
I guess. What I do to X-torq's is documented in one of my older video's, a 365 X-torq is really the same as te 372 with a few little changes. The transfer port covers have a fin to reduce x-sectional area therefore RPM's. Uses the same cases, cylinder, carburetor, ignition etc' as the 372, just those "caps" on the transfers and low top with a different filter holder & filter. etc.

Where do you get the kit for the jred air filter the automotive style one I have a 2172 and it has that nylon mesh air box but I wanna put that automotive style air filter on it its my favorite saw I have it's my baby I want it to breathe right lol

Thats a standard 372 filter. U would need a 372 filter holder and filter. Then cut the cover.

What does the base gasket delete do , cause when running my 2172 side by side with the 372 xp I don't notice any difference in terms of performance
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 3 года назад
Because it doesn't do anything radical and there are a pile of other factors that can effect a saws performance. The true test is the same saw before and after. One part is the air filter. A 2172 has a smaller air box and filter than a 372xp....

BUT to your question :) taking a .020 base gasket out lowers the cylinder .020. That adds a little "time" where the piston is under pressure helping the lower part of the power band. That .020 also squeeze's more of the gas/air mix into the combustion chamber where it can actually be burned and used. AND that .020 also reduces the combustion chamber volume enough to increase the psi by about 15lbs. Also adds about a degree to the intake duration..... not really much f a difference. Also lowers the transfers...that is a negative. But the positives add more on a saw than the negatives take away. Usually on the lower end of the power band.. :)
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 3 года назад
And the air filter difference will matter and doing other things like a smart ( not some over done bling mod ) muffler mod will allow those other changes to show. Always have to remember, the weakest link in the chain defines limitations. For example, if that filter is flowing all it can...all the down stream changes won't fix that and the "restriction" will actually be what defines the power capability. It's the "blend" of all the parameters from air box to muffler exit that define the way a saw runs...while one "thing" can choke the motor's power potential, one "thing" being done to a two stroke doesn't change all the other physical parameters. :)

@@afleetcommand much appreciated friend I work on other types of small engines in smaller less technical ways , never really deal with firing chamber or timing but I know enough about the way engines work to understand what youre saying here , and I definitely appreciate you taking the time to explain it that in depth for i like knowing stuff lol
