Until now i have been working with HTML and the CMS path with Joomla makes it possible for my wife to maintain her own site. These tutorials by BuildaJoomlaWebsite are simply the best. cheers and thanks
Hi Jason, We go into this in our Beyond the Basics and Joomla Pro courses. It can get very involved obviously as SEO is a huge topic. There are several spots to place meta information. You can find the overall settings for the website in the Site panel of Global Configuration. Each article has its own settings as well, as do Menu Items. As a note, keywords are much less important than they used to be, but make sure you set good titles and use good descriptions.
Greater flexibility. This comes at the cost of a steeper learning curve, but it's worth it. Be sure to watch lesson 2 as I explain this in a bit more detail.
Hi, We do have some lessons on local installation in our advanced course called Beyond the Basics. For most situations we recommend developing on a web host, but there are some developers who like to build sites locally and then upload to their web host. Thanks.
We have a Joomla Developer course that we are going to completely redo. In the meantime, you could definitely work on your Joomla skills with our tutorials and forums.
We've always done it this way for screen captures because here at RU-vid the default window size is relatively small. Sure you can resize it, but not everyone does. The same problem occurs when someone embeds the video on their own site. We get around this by zooming into the screen a lot to show the necessary detail. The videos are recorded in high definition (720) and we provide a downloadable version of these in our advanced courses via our website.
You can't put the sample data into the site after Joomla has been installed. I recommend you install it from scratch using the instructions elsewhere in this course. Or do a search for Joomla Demo and setup an account there to play around with it.
We don't have anything on that. There are some videos on the Gantry site, otherwise you might check to see if there is a suitable forum at RocketTheme.
I installed Joomla 2.5 using simplescripts with Blue host. Then I downloaded a template I want to use, unzipped the file and then I uploaded the template files to my Filezilla FTP. i can see the template under the domain name, but I can't access it from my Joomla Control Panel.
Hey does anyone know how to configure the search components that are built into joomla. I don't see a place to put keywords or meta tags. If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it!
my host automatically installed Joomla! 1.5.25. I was following your videos up to 15 when you said to make an article and post it on the main menu when i noticed i had a different version, so I migrated to Joomla! 2.5.9 using jUpgrade and now my front end is different from yours. It was the same as yours when I had 1.5.25, but when i migrated to 2.5.6 then updated to 2.5.9 it got rid of the default sample site and put up a "Joomla! community portal" page instead. how can i get it back?
