Well.....different strokes for different folks, I LOVE my fragrance smelling on me for HOURS!!!!! I want to always smell my cologne and whenever I pass as well, basically I LOVE signature scents
Women LOVE this cologne. It is a true masterpiece. An absolutely gorgeous fragrance. it is also an extremely classy fragrance. This cologne used to cost $ 140 dollars and I bought it in Paris, and daily i use to get at least 5 compliments from women. To say this smells like cough syrup, is utterly ignorant, period.
this video broke my heart. this was the very first fragrance that i owned. ive even had the oil versions. my dad wore this religiously for years. i absolutely. love it.
I like Cody, but he didn’t test this Joop out properly. Fragrances made before 2000s are made to be work and tested on the skin and not to be sniffed directly off paper especially at work of all places. Joop has to sit on the skin and mellow out with your natural oils.
Wow, i was shocked at the peoples opinions, whenever i wore this in the past it always got me good compliments, usually too good. Quality review bud cheers!!
I have been looking for this scent for 25 years!! I didn't know what it was called until today!! My high school teacher wore it and I loved it. I never bothered asking him what it was. Then yesterday I caught a whiff of the sillage as this guy walked past me and I had to stop and ask him as it was 25 years!! And he told me was Joop!! I was absolutely thrilled that I finally found it. I personally think this is one of the BEST scents out there. yes it's older, but still a classic. I describe it as warm , sexy and sophisticated (but not pretentious) Cody I really like your reviews but I disagree with you on this one. a D? This is one of my favourite scents of all time! I understand we're all different, but it's no D. Angel Men would be a D for me...way to chocolaty This one has some class to it. But then again to each his own, Thanks for review anyway. Keep up the great work my friend.
dracdoc Sorry Cody, I wrote this too soon! You're right it's a D!! I went to go sample just to be sure before I bought it and it's way too annoying. The guy that I smelt must have been talking about an offset of Joop Homme. It wasn't the same smell.
dracdoc LOL Cody, I was watching your fragrance collection video (amazing collection) and once again I was reminded of Joop!. I smelled it again since my last comment and I've come to think it's still good. It's just that you can only do 1-2 sprays max!! that's it! and then it develops nicely ....but after the initial harsh Cotton Candy opening.
zazenh I agree i love it also its my favorite . i dont even do a full single spray i just barely push down so little comes out on my wrist and then rub them together and dab my wrists behind my ears to . Then the cool down is much much faster and the smell is not very strong .
Joop is an awesome, unique fragrance. There are rules to wearing it though. 1. Only wear it in cold weather. 2. No more than 3 spays. 3. Give it at least an hr to dry.
it just lends well to winter for whatever reason, it is a bit heavy for warm weather. also three sprays is too much for anyone who doesnt want to smell like a department store @@tykez1249
Hands down my favorite cologne. It's truly bizarre how strong it is, how long it lasts, and the scent itself is both complex and simple, masculine and feminine, pleasant and unpleasant, common and mysterious. If want to play it safe, just one spray on the Adam's apple or chest. To me it is the essence of life on the edge, life to the fullest. It's rock and roll in a bottle.
OMG just applied it. That thing is a beast. Projects like a monster. More then 2 sprays would definetely kill people. Feels like bubble gum which is pretty bad IMO. Wating for the drydown to see if I smell any wood in it. I really like fruity frags. like Lacoste Essentials or Lacoste L12.12 but this is just crazy bubble gumish but unique smell. If I had to choose between love/hate/like/dislike I would dislike it. Awesome review doc!!! Keep up in good work :-)
I was introduced to this fragrance in the eighth grade. I have smelled it on people since then, but never asked what they were wearing. Finally after more than twenty years, me and my nose tracked it down. I love this cologne!
It’s not very common anymore to smell but it does get me the most compliments on my skin. It’s hilarious how Cody asks people at his work how cologne smells from a piece of paper lol. They always look unhappy and generally uncooperative when he asks them for their opinion lol. I love Cody so no disrespect but this is what I noticed. Joop smells good on the skin and meant to be mixed in the air, not smelling it on bleached paper. It is a great fragrance, but has to be sprayed ONCE on the chest or away from the face. You can dab your wrists on your chest to spread it a bit and rub on neck after, but very rarely should you do TWO sprays! 2 sprays is for a cold winter night on a date outside. Or even clubbing and your chilling in the patio outside the club while smoking and drinking with loud music. Women love this juice. Not safe for work unless you use half a spray.
Joop! Homme is a famous famous fragrance from the 90's. It potency and power is mostly unmatched. I agree with your classifications of this fragrance and how polarizing it can be. While I absolutely love it, its potent power and distinctiveness makes a enormous presence that certain people can feel overwhelmed by. I definitely feel it is a "power" fragrance to be worn by people willing and ready to be bold. I love it, its amazing and nothing I can think of is similar.
I say go with what works for you. Joop! a lot of people like.. as well as Original Santal. They both get positive compliments as well. If you like it.. wear it! It's just not for me.
It is all a matter of taste. I personally want a fragrance that stays with me most of the day, instead of needing it,and its gone. I'd rather smell sweet than sour.
i found about 1/5 of a 4.2 oz bottle on the ground as i was walking along the side of the road. i gave it a sniff and was wowed. i am crazy for this stuff. i perceive it much differently than other people though. for me, JOOP! smells really strongly of jasmine and then patchouli. but i have to resist the temptation to spray and sniff repeatedly because something about it is like drugs or sex. it just feels so good i want to keep doing it. but i know i must exercise self-control because JOOP! is strong juju. one spritz is my limit. my family likes it so i'm going to continue to wear it every day.
I bought my bottle 4 years ago and in that time I’ve used it perhaps 15 times. As you say it’s aggressive and overly sweet so it’s not something I pull for often. Having said that; today I went for a two and a half hour walk in 28°F weather and for that...perfection👌🏻 I miss your thoughts on fragrances
I just got this as a blind buy based on it’s reputation. I’ve only tried it a few times because of it’s nuclear projection. I’ve only worn it when I was alone or outside. I’m still intrigued but I’m leaning towards it’s not really for me. It has a very strong cough syrup vibe. Thanks for the review.
My dad bought me this in September 2013 for my birthday. I used it for for about 5 times and i have it in my wardrobe lol. Not a bad smell to be honest and I plan on wearing it to school someday.
I still love this fragrance.. I used it when I was in my early teens and still use it now that I'm in my mid 30s. Now I just wish Gucci would re-release their Envy fragrance
Depends on your financial situation (which I don't know) If you can afford to be wrong possibly then go for it.. if not..stay away from it until you smell it
Nothing smells so good from Joop house than Joop Nightflight .you gonna always get compliments more than many fragrance out there, such a shame they discontinued and on Ebay is over 150 $.Joop Nightflight compliment you gonna get: 100%.Joop Homme:30 %.Many people hated.
I can hunt anyone down wearing this fragrance. I absolutely love it. I also worked with 3 other women that were the same as I and also loved it. This is a man's fragrance as is supposed to appeal to women. Which is certainly does for me. This is my favourite.
I have Joop in my collection. I use Joop for a very longtime since 1999! This one is one of the most sexiest fragrance. Top classic! True ladykiller ;)
i can't believe he gave it a D over all, but It is true that different people have different taste. plus it probably smell different on one person to another. i've noticed however that black people tend to use a special kind of cologne in general.
Not being racist at all I’m a straight Filipino American man and I have noticed from black friends, acquaintances, and strangers that they have oilier skin in general and fragrances tend to smell different on them then non blacks. Issey Miyake, Joop, and Caesar Man for example smell better on them in general. I’ve known oilier Asians and Hispanics with darker skin and even Indians that could also pull off certain scents better. The oils turn it into a rounder and livelier scent. Sorry if I offended anybody but I’m just a keen observer and if anything having this oilier skin chemistry is a gift in my opinion. Keeps the skin younger too.
Thanks for the review, dracdoc. I think you may have been harsh on Joop though. I agree with your two recommendations - apply lightly and works better in cold weather. However, because of the flower notes, I'd recommend this for very cool Spring days, no warmer than 50 degrees. I also agree that this is a unisex fragrance. Finally, mesa401 is right - women do love it.
It's funny you say that because I had the EXACT same thought process. When I saw the notes I thought there was no way I could not like this scent. I wanted to mention that too, but I started hitting time limit.
I was always a fan of the original joop. Though very strong didnt wear it to often. This new joop wild is alot more suttle. Imo way better. You will enjoy.
I find the Joop Homme smells more like Jean Paul Gauthier Le Male but The Joop is little bit more cotton candy sweet. Like it a lot but it’s kinda growin on me. Not bad.
well, i understand one grows out of it. I have been using this since 2000 but the reaction of women to this cologne hasn't changed..LOL. So - I stick with it
This is my favorite scent ever .. i been wearing this stuff for many many years now but the trick is to use it very very lightly NOT even a full spray just barely push down on it on your wrist so u get a tiny drop and rub your wrists together then rub your wrist behind your ears the Cool down is so much faster . I never had a complaint well i take that back i did when i first started using it like 10-15 years ago i would do a full spray on my chest. But ever since i change how i apply it to my wrist very lightly not one complaint because its so mellow when you use very very little then you can smell all the different spices in it and its true sent come out the way it should be .
I'll totally try that! The thing I love the most on Joop are the base notes, that sweet heaven! I've been looking for a way to get the cool down faster, and as you're saying, I think I've found it! haha thank you, man!
I love that smell. It will become my new standard-parfume. It displaces my old favourite, One Million. I just love sweet cinnamon smells. And the best: It causes no headache. ^^v
Just to see the notes at 2:39 we might not expect the fragrance to be as disliked as it is, or it might even be a pleasant woman's fragrance. Must be the proportions of the notes, source/quality of the notes, and/or unstated ingredients that skew it to be so ...unpopular. I'm trying to wrap my head around this - figuratively speaking LOL. I detested Joop! when it first came out, may give it another sniff out of curiosity. Wearing Heir by Child today, an unsung masterpiece IMO.
Incorrect. Unless Target, Walgreens, Perfumania are all selling knockoffs. Because you get it from them for under 40 dollars a bottle, close to 20 at times. It's true its an import, but its 20+ years old and hasn't retained its exclusivity. Can be found cheap quite easily without being a knockoff.
I wear Joop and enjoy it but I get mad jealous when black guys pull it off better than me lol. In the 90s I rocked it back then and I have to put baby oil on my skin first to “round out” the smell of Joop the same way some black guys can. I grew up in SoCal, so it was generally Cool Water, Eternity, Drakkar, Issey, and less popular Joop that was worn.
I don't get all the reviews and comments on saying this is a bomb. I'm female and I wear this (and also the female version). On my skin it's just a great perfume, nothing too heavy or too sweet. I love it. My boyfriend also loves it and wears it (ofcourse we don't wear it together). It's weird. I wish this lasts on my skin for 15hours, it stays on my skin around 8hours max.
That's right. It is a german name and germans and dutch some belgians pronouce their J as Y, Wolgang and Jette Joop are the founders of the house Joop. Gr7 review by the way and I couldnt audibly stop laughing by Nancy's comment.
got this bottle a couple of days ago..i just smell florals after florals, mine 2017 batch, strong jasmine is there..but i don't get the cotton candy or cough syrup as many reviewers say, even the cinnamon, tonka bean and vanilla is missing...even the dry down is floral... I m very confused..:) the longevity is very good around 10 hours...sillage is also good, strong for 2 to 3 hours...is there any reformulations of 2017 batch? I never had the vintage batch.
I absolutely love this fragrance, doc. but if I do only 2 sprays (anywhere, wrist. chest, back of neck etc) it is gone in 2-3 hours. now, I tried spraying it at the same time with another scent (at one time nautical voyage, blind bought from your review, I may add) at different wrist. I can still smell the voyage after 6 hours but joop is gone. could it be I'm anosmic to patchouli (or what ever ingredients in joop homme)? I'm a huge fan of you reviews by the way.
What would you recommend for top few summer colognes with great strong sillage - I use Joop! but after you suggested I shold wear this in cold weather - it would be nice if you can suggest a summer spray. Thanks! and great reivew - big fan of you now
funny how you put that in out of no where lol joop is more powerful for scent, but i find that there is a equal strong scent connection between joop and nautica voyage....but again what ever it is joop brings it out louder lol if that makes sence
It has been reformulated but the changes are so miniscule and the fragrance projects so loud you can’t notice it. Even eating spicy food can change your body chemistry so no cologne wearing will even be the same. It’s hard to find vintage even on eBay so it isn’t even worth looking for. The differences can be smelled when sprayed on paper or right off the spray cap, but once this juice is sprayed all hell breaks loose and nobody can tell the difference. The vintage juice lasts 20 hours on my skin and days on my clothes even when washed and projects for 8 hours. The new stuff lasts about 12 hours on my skin and I can smell that on my clothes as well after washing and projects for 6 hours. It’s unique to wear because it’s totally different than all the other sweet stuff you smell at the mall these days. Note: you have to wait about an hour before this stuff starts to develop and let the magic happen. I’m glad Cody shorted on this one because I wouldn’t want many other people to wear it.@3
hey cody you are review the current coty joop home cologne, I have the older Lancaster verison of joop home cologne the early 1990s bottle it have the home logo at top of the bottle and it amazing in my opinion, I think you change your review score if you tried the original joop.
i have a party coming up soon, it is going to to be quite packed i should think and im going to be very close quarters with other people, if i wore this with just one spray would it be too overwhelming? would the people surrounding me find it too strong and sweet for an occasion like this?
hey i got a tricky one for you. i am very interested in getting this fragance, but i only can blind buy this, i haven't smelled this yet. but a lot of people say that this is a much more intense/strong Mont Blanc Individuel (whic is very similar also to original santal). I did smelled Individuel and i liked it so what's your advice on this. Should i go for the blind buy o what? thanks in advance, keep up the good work!
Two sprays just doesn't seem like enough...I usually go 3-4 sprays with all my fragrances. Mind you, I have most of the monsters for projection that you reviewed in the longest lasting review, which are: A*Men, A*Men Pure Malt, Opium, Le Male, Joop, Obsession, DHI, One Million, Versace Eros... I've never got a "You sprayed too much", only compliments with them all. Just doesn't seem like only 2 sprays will get noticed. IMO. I used to do like 6-7 sprays before I started getting into reviews lol but always positive compliments. I don't "think" I've ever been like that old lady you can smell from 5 feet away. Haha...feedback anyone?
+Anthony Jaxx I may be like you, mate. my skin just eats up this fragrance in particular. I have to do 4-6 sprays to get anyone standing next to me get a waft after 3 hours or so. sad that this is one of my favourites. I don't have longevity/sillage problem with a*men, le male, kouros, quorum though
I watched the review to find out what smells similar to this scent so I would never buy them as well. I am a huge fan of your reviews and believe Men's Health, Maxim, Esquire, or the like should pay big bucks for you insights. I trust your judgment that it is a amped up candied cinnamon. My pedestrian nostrils just pick up weird and off putting. I suppose if I had to become a serial killer or a hit man this is the scent I'd wear. The reason is I doubt any victim would beg for another moment of life if they had to smell this. I may even be thanked!
michael beattie hello Michael can you please tell if it lasts long I want you to advice me because I would like to have a fragrance that last a long time on skin
Hey Cody, Can you do a review of Joop! Homme WILD. I have one coming in the mail shortly but i have not had the chance to smell it even though i like the original Joop Homme. I know the 2 are slightly different. However im wondering since your just as bad as a cologne Wh%re like me, if you can do a review of this stuff! Thanks man, love all your reviews alot!
