That's the thing with Love. He needs more reps to smooth out the accuracy but he plays the right way. Goes through reads quickly, does what the offense wants him to do, and gets the ball out quick. The talent is all there for the splash plays, and I think we'll see more & more of them as he gets reps.

I agree that he plays "the right way". His predecessor did it "his own way" thereby limiting the offenses potential. Excited to see every Packer player involved this year.

That’s the scary part. He can improve. 245 on 15 completions and 3 tds? 5 more and he would’ve thrown for 300. If he improves to a 65% completion percentage and is consistent the nfc norths worst fear will be realized. I don’t wanna hype him up too much cuz it’s one game and against the bears but I really like what I’m seeing.

Well his ceiling is low because as a player he’s not exciting. his deep ball needs so much work but his calmness and fundamentals are there.

@@melodicsho5842i disagree - he has a high ceiling because his fundamentals are there. Fields is an exciting player but without having the fundamentals down he looks like he does Sunday. Love has a strong arm and will figure out the deep ball. Getting the fundamentals right is way more important at this stage of his career.

What Tom Clement has done with Love's footwork is incredible from where he was coming into the league. Dude was money all day on 3rd down. Accuracy will come once he and his receivers get on the same page. There was a beautiful throw to Musgrave that the TE flattened on instead of running up field, it was a walk in TD.

I don't know some of those throws can only be done by 5-6 qb's. Obviously Rodgers taught him the no look and back shoulder throws but he's getting the ball out fast and they're fastballs too. If the receivers catch those 4-5 drops he has a 300 yard game. His arm talent was definitely on display for the longer passes.

Also as a Packers fan I feel cautiously optimistic. Good foundation to build on with more reps, but the Bears were very bad. Need to see them against a real team, but definitely a good start.

Love has a TON of poise, doesn't get rattled at all even after a bad play or a poor throw. That was the first thing I noticed in the first half when things weren't going so smoothly. He just needs to work on his accuracy, which hopefully will get better in time.

Gotta remember, outside of Doubs and Toure, every other WR/TE on the roster is basically a rookie. It'll take time for them to get onto the same page with each other. Those anticipation throws, which is where he missed a few of his throws, requires both people to be in sync. Those are the plays you'll need reps to get down.

My read of the play at 3:00 is that the Packers wanted the middle of the field. The goal was to make the play seem like a play to corners of the endzone but bring the crosser to the middle. Love the little move the receiver makes when turning to run to make the catch. Does just enough to get a step on the defender. well conceived :)

It was refreshing just to see the ball come on in rhythm almost every pass play. #12 improvising all the time was productive in an overall sense because they'd hit some big plays and score points. But man, it could really kill the offense for long stretches during games with a bunch of three and out drives. Especially when 12's long range passing accuracy starting dropping off. Not moving the ball put a lot of pressure on Special Teams and the Defense. With the way things look with Love, they'll do better at keeping drives going, shifting the field position, and resting the D, and hopefully still be scoring at the same level.

He has to scramble left and hope something comes open? By climbing, hes ready to trigger upfield and theres nothing but green grass ahead for him to run it in for 6 if he can beat the DT

There is something about Jordan’s throws, when he throws it just looks so smooth and effortless. Lots of qb’s have to force it and looks like they put so much energy into their throws and when Love does it it just looks so efficient and easy. Is it more of his natural ability or technique?

I would say a mix of both. He looks like a combo of Rodgers and Favre, not surprising since he learned from Rodgers, who learned from Favre. But love’s natural talent is shining through I think. Refining his technique will make things even better.

Question about your analysis on Love not opening his stance when throwing to the left…is it not the better technique to keep your stance upfield and if you’re a good enough athlete (which Love is) you open up when getting set to throw? It just feels like way too easy of a telegraph for a defender with decent awareness to read where the balls going if hes immediately facing left directly out of the drop. Fantastic breakdown though man. The Packers look like they’ve got another one

first td the db was defending fade route base where he's lined up. everyone was in man so it was easy for td pass since they were able to move the safety and doub ran like he was going to go fade but ran the opposite and made a good catch. love was able to see it the moment safety moved.

I think on one of the first throws where you showed the miss, because his feet weren’t lined up properly, by the end of the video he cleaned that up on the pass to Reed for another third down conversion (21:30ish). Maybe he was chirped at and corrected it?

3:17 “top of his drop, where is he supposed to go there?”… maybe he was looking the wrong way but if you notice, toure(83) puts his foot in the ground and slants to the back pylon and becomes instantly wide open when love hits his drop. Maybe the scheme was to go left for the back corner and love mixed something up.

Thats what I was thinking at first, and it still might be the case. he way i saw this play is going on the right side with 2 crossers and a post, this felt like the Packers called a man beater into zone but an excellent route beats the safety for a TD

Legitimately wondering because I simply don't know... a number of times you said that Love's feet weren't locked in facing the direction of the throw, up until the moment he throws, and that causes the ball to not quite get outside enough (or whatever the situation may be). As someone who never played football, it seems like if he did that, defenses would be able to read him easier. That, or if he locks his feet off center to go to his 1, wouldn't it then kind of lock him into that throw if things break down and he has to go to his 2nd or 3rd read? As just a viewer, I don't know if I understand your meaning here and would love some clarification on what it means for him to lock in those throws, without then causing the same problem for other potential throws.

A lot of the newer qbs seem to very focused on torque and being almost over rotational with their hips. Seems to lead to the footwork not always being lined to the target. Whether it’s college games or the young NFL QBs they seem to almost put their “foot in the bucket” to get that feeling of rotation before they release.

I think that is only half the issue. His WR's and TE's are all basically rookies or first year players. It takes reps to get used to their speed to know how hard you actually have to throw the ball. That will come with more reps.

Where did he get the back shoulder throw and the no look throw from. There aren't many qb's doing that in the NFL besides Rodgers and Mahomes. Also he has the same timing as Rodgers. If you sit in a film room for 3 years you learn what he's looking at, timing, etc. Wilson mentioned it on hard knocks. If he was sitting behind Farve it would be a different story.

Analysts always used to talk about QBs needing to throw "on balance". The truth is that you get the ball to your target anyway you can. Sometimes you have big nasty lineman baring down on you and you do what you can.

at ~ 1:45 what was TJ Edwards (Badger) doing? Huge HUGE Gap between LT and LG that he could've busted through to sack Love there, I'm a Packer Backer and SUPER smug right now over this win, but seeing that actually makes me mad at the Bears because it's things like that are the reason why the Packers own the Bears

He could get the pack in the playoff hunt this year, he's more polished goes through his progressions big arm talent and the oline is playing well and so is Jones...the wrs he's got might be a hindrance at the end of the season and he's still gotta work on accuracy but imo he may be one of the better qbs in the league

Encouraging game from love. Will be interesting to see what it looks like when he actually faces in NFL caliber defense. The Bears looked completely incompetent in every facet all day long.

The Packers GM is the most impressive psychic in NFL history . He used Aaron Rodgers right up to 4 more NFL snaps then shipped him off to the Jets right before it happened. Gutekunst wins GM of the century . No one else saw this coming besides Gutekunst. We all made fun of the pick when it happened. I was here with this channel live streaming the draft recap. Jordan Love has a lot to show yet but he has shown he is a very talented passer and could grow up in a system made for him and thrive for a very long time.

To be fair, Gutekunst is the only one playing for 3 years down the line. The coaches and players are all playing for right now, that's not Gutey's job. His job is to keep the team rolling for years to come or he'll be out of a job in the years to come lol.

@@voldemort008 This is what people don't understand. The Packers aren't bankrolled by a billionaire. If games don't sell out that impacts the team and the entire GB community. They can't afford to go years without competent QB play like other teams. People forget that Ron Wolf always landed starting-caliber QBs like Detmer, Hasselbeck, Brooks, and Warner to backup Favre. I think they're proving it's smart to draft and develop a high ceiling QB once your starter is over 35.

@@heartbreak25 100%. Saints really made a mistake not developing a QB behind Brees while he was in his twilight years. They now had 2 seasons of losing football with a fantastic defense & quality OL/RB/WR room because they had to start Jameis, Dalton etc... Imagine if they had drafted someone like Love or even Lamar and had them learn from Drew Brees for 2-3 years..
