Thank you so much, Glen, that was very helpful for me. I took the Peterson train to Christianity a few years ago but do suffer from having some aspects of babelism in my outlook. Thank you for putting so clearly in words what you see both in terms of benefits and dangers of the Peterson train. I still love the man tremendously and am deeply thankful for his wisdom and love for lost sheep like me. Just beginning to appreciate the depth of the love and power of Jesus. It is difficult to believe because it is so good but I know in my heart of hearts that He is Lord and the good shepherd of all. Glory and all thanks to Him.

Thanks for teaching me a very important new word babelism. This video also shows the distance between myself, a new follower of Jesus, and Jesus. And I didn't even know that I've kept myself away from Jesus by trusting in my own strength too much.

A very good analysis of Jordan Peterson’s speech, giving a balanced view of both its strength and weaknesses. Jordan, like all of us, are works in progress, and we can all use a little help. He’s leaning towards Christianity but still has some way to go towards becoming a Christian and understanding the subtleties of the faith. I would love to see a conversation between Glen and Jordan discussing the important differences between the Tower of Babel and Jacob’s ladder. It would likely prove to be a very fruitful discussion.

Great broadcast. I remember Jordans broken spirit a little while ago, manifest in a few interviews he did, beautiful to see. It was like he came to the red sea, but hesitated and didn't step forward into Christ. We all do the same, I fail often. I hope and pray he takes the step. He's an interesting and remarkable person. God bless him

I too have been following the journey of Jordan for several years. Upon reading his 12 Rules book my thought was he has unconsciously discovered some of God’s truth similarly to Bill W and AA’s higher power. For the past year or two I began thinking even praying that Peterson needs to meet Dr John Lennox who believes in the down & out story along with Scrivener. Their paths have now crossed. Peterson has invited Lennox to get involved in his next Miami forum. The story of Peterson’s journey continues. I trust Jordan will not just have the dots shown to him but will connect them, have his burden lifted and be empowered with love, grace and power from above.

I’ve been feeling uneasy about JP ever since ARC, I’ve talked with other Christian’s about it and just got a heavy rebuttal, ‘we need to change culture through politics, we need to pick a side in war etc etc’ this video has finally put words to my unease, thank you!

Exactly that, I do actually know a lot of people involved in ARC, very socially mobile, wealthy, well connected Christians, I suppose this is their temptation, to use their power and influence to build Babel, with Christian language to ‘justify’, however, what is really behind this? It can be quite difficult to decipher, as I am a new Christian, but it seems so off, I didn’t come to Christ to be successful in the world, I came to him to make sense of my failure and my suffering. Indeed his burden is light. In him we find freedom not endless striving for influence. There’s no peace in this. Thanks Glen!

Peterson is preaching the religion of the anti-christ, a man centered religion instead of a God centered faith. We have to be careful that we are not being deceived into accepting errors which are totally opposed to the Bible. We shouldn't be so desperate for role models or allies that we accept anyone who seems to preach teachings that have Christian flavour without actually being Bible based Christianity. Isaiah 8:20 "20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

Glen. Paul VanderKlay led a conference I ran in March 2019 (at StJames Old Cathedral, Melbourne) called Understanding the Jordan Peterson Phenomenon. My view re Peterson is he is a Jungian, Darwinian, secular psychologist (like M Scott Peck) discovering the humble reality of love at the core of reality. I welcome him in his journey because he, as you say, brings so many with him as he diagnoses this moment of time and space. Jesus says to his disciples, “don’t try to pull out the weeds…” and “if they are not against us, they are with us.” Paul launched my book, How Good is the Golden Rule at the conference, which summarises my 76 years of Christian experience. Since then, I have discovered that I now really do love God with all my heart, mind, soul and strength, but it has taken me a lifetime to do it. Pray for him. Regards Warren Mills.

This is a great analysis of the shortfall in Peterson's message when contrasted with biblical Christianity; however, ARC is meant to be a coalition, not a party based on partiality. Christians should confidently engage with this and learn not to be too partial in regard to ARC's aims.

Jordan Peterson presents himself as an academic, a philosopher, and a champion of western civilization values. I'm a Christian and appreciate his stoic outlook, an outlook that deeply examines secular society without faith.
@SpiritualPsychotherapyServices

I'm not sure why any thinking person would give heed to the imperfect opinions of some ignorant psychology professor. There are a handful of EXTREMELY wise sages currently on this planet who can logically and completely answer practically any question that an intelligent soul is likely to ask regarding morals and ethics. The fact that Jordan supports men buggering each other (by which I mean, that he supports homosexuality and other criminal activities, such as the unnecessary consumption of poor innocent animals) is MORE than sufficient proof that he is not as religious as he claims, and that any decent, holy person ought to shun his inane teachings and flee into the loving arms of a teacher of Truth. Furthermore, in a recent interview on Benjamin Shapiro's RU-vid channel, he admitted that his wife figuratively (and I'm sure also LITERALLY) wears the pants in his household. 👖 I would be more than pleased to provide you with links to the RU-vid channels of a few enlightened beings who will quickly set you on the path to perfection, as opposed to the DELUDED moral subjectivism professed by "Doctor" Peterson (pun not intended). Please find below a couple of such ENLIGHTENED masters to which I referred above: Professor Alan Watts (now deceased, so he doesn't have his own RU-vid channel - just search for his videos on numerous extant channels) Swami Sarvapriyananda ( ru-vid.com or search for "Vivekananda Samiti") Jagadguru Svāmī Vegānanda ( www.youtube.com/@TheWorldTeacher )

Excellent analysis of Dr. Peterson's speech. I admire JP very much. I love how he tries to be as honest and as exact in his speech as he is able. Here's my favorite example from several years back in Canada. There was a group protesting his talk, who had put out flyers against him, etc. He mentioned them, somehow, either to the media or someone. He used the word "enemies," which was immediately jumped on: "See! You call them your enemies! You are divisive! You do hate people! etc etc." But JP pointed his accusers back to his actual words. He had said, "...those who consider themselves my enemies..." That said, Glen has verbalized much of my wariness surrounding JP. Another area where JP is off the mark is his interpretation of Matthew 18: "unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." JP attaches it to children's sense of play, and he likes to extrapolate that into the need for play in our lives as adults. However, that's a stretch and doesn't fit the context. I believe it's that little children simply... believe. Unless their trust has been betrayed by abusive parents, they simply believe and trust what their parents tell them. Likewise, we are to believe and trust our heavenly Father. And He is all good and worthy of that trust. :) One more thing about JP: as much as I admire him and have learned much from him, there is a little part of me that whispers, "He is the type of person the Antichrist will be: wise leader, adored by the masses, able to solve great problems of the world, and yet, without...or anti...Christ. You said it well, Glen. Is he close...? or is he actually facing 180 degrees away...?

God bless you Glen. I love that you are coming alongside social media, undergirding it with God's truth. The internet is a massive world where, despite sometimes the best of intentions, things can and do go terribly wrong. The Living God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You can't earn your way into a family. It's difficult in this world where we are taught to paddle our canoes on the waters of the 'performance river', to accept the Living God's grace because it is a free gift independent of any effort on our part. Thank you for speaking God's truth into this ARC conference 2023.

This was such a helpful analysis . Really appreciated the insight as someone who has read and listened to JP for a few years now. I’m so intrigued by him. But you clarified the point for me - that we love because he first loved us. Love and faith and then comes responsibility. JP is well worth listening to for his wisdom, articulation and the fact that he so obviously cares about people. But I can see now more clearly that his is a vision of the tower of babel not Jacob’s ladder - God coming to down to us into the pit to be with us. I feel roused when I hear JP but not particularly hopeful! I loved the verse you shared of Jesus giving rest to the weary. That WAS refreshing and Jesus is our only cause for hope. Thanks again for this video. I liked that you spent more time on this!

First time viewer here, thank you Glen for the well-put video identifying the merits and shortfalls of the Jordan Peterson train. I was an on and off Catholic now trying to regain/ strengthen my faith, so please do correct me if I am mistaken in any way. Personally I am grateful for Jordan Peterson’s insights as he gave me hope in that I could be useful if I so choose: stop wallowing in self-pity and self-righteousness, and start taking up my responsibilities. However, I did recently notice that the longer I adopt this way of thinking, the more I focus on exercising my own strength and less mindful of the source of that strength. I took responsibilities and opportunities onto my shoulder but a lot of the times I still felt small and inept. I kept telling myself I am stronger than I think I am, and strive up and ahead. All these tips from Jordan Peterson are good and encouraging until you start to loose sight of the centre. The fact is, I am small and weak and hopeless, but I am still stronger than I think because GOD guides me and walks alongside me, not because of my own merits. It is a fine line to tread because we do have to step up and utter our own Fiat, voluntarily accept God’s invitation and blessings- if we believe in God but do not act according to God’s will, all are empty words; but if we shoulder all challenges and think we could achieve great things on our own, like what Jordan Peterson was expressing in the Arc conference, we have become arrogant and are trying to play God, which is the reason Heaven and Earth separated in the first place. In my opinion, Jordan Peterson, in his eagerness in pulling people out from their nihilistic and hedonistic ways; and perhaps, in his reluctance in loosing people by delving too deep into Christianity, has created a babelism trap for himself and his avid listeners. This scares me because as Jordan likes to quote “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”. I believe his intentions are good, but I agree with you Glen, that I am not sure where this is going. The work of Jordan Peterson has great potential to move in diametrically opposite directions, so let us pray for God’s guidance for ourselves and Jordan, and that we may stay awake enough to recognise when the devil tries to twist the good into evil. God bless all!

The child rearing example is great, it’s true that a child left to its own devices can’t by its own abilities become an adult. The parents condescends to child and comes down to teach the child and to bring the child up, like God who condescends to us to bring us up to Him.

Jordan Peterson stated at the conference that ‘man despite his flaws is essentially good’. That seems to place him directly at odds with the core of the Christian message. I’d consider him more dangerous than helpful - he’s providing a gutted-out form of Christianity.

I really respect Jorden more then almost anyone alive, as a Christian myself he helped me transition… extremely conflicted ignorant old school fundamental believer, to being being somewhere between that and be a Liberal (not politically). He has really opened my eyes when it came to scripture simply by getting me to look for the message in each story rather then obsessing on facts and details. That said, I don’t know he is a real Christian, I don’t believe in salvation devoid of experience. Knowing the real Christ is life changing and is more necessary the best philosophies. I don’t care if your life is better off following Jesus teachings, if you don’t know him it’s all worthless. But maybe it’s a good start. I have never heard him talk about having a personal salvation experience though he has hinted at it. The reality is I don’t look to him as a spiritual leader, so I don’t think it’s my place to spiritually judge him. I think what he teaches is good as a teacher and practice, but he is not a paster or evangelist. I think that has its place. Thank you for the video.

Thanks Glen for this breakdown. Iam too torn with Jordan Peterson. He helped me so much when i lost my way in my Christian faith. He literally brought me back to the kingdom. For a year or two if i was honest, he became my idol, i watched everything , i shared with my friends and family. But then i realised that i needed to put Christ back in the centre of my life and not JP- so i listen to him less and am trying to keep the bible as my focus. I was saddened that he started arc - while watching it , it felt like a pseudo Christian conference. I know he has a complicated relationship with the church, but it seems like he is trying to create an alternative 'church' , but although there were many Christian speakers at Arc, its not the church, and so my prayer for JP is that he finds a church he can be apart of and find the grace of God in the community. I still love him but I love Jesus a whole lot more.

Those “thick lens” and what they are composed of aligns EXACTLY with my analysis as a Christian of Peterson. Recently he completely misunderstood the biblical of sacrifice and in the same video he psychologized the concept of revelation itself. This is to be extremely distant from belief and faith. My personal theory about him - FWIW - is that he was more open or searching right after he recovered from health crisis. He was discussing the idea of Christ being the logos with Jonathan P. So he asked Jonathan something along the lines of why did Jonathan have faith… now instead of just unashamedly telling JP that Jesus took upon himself the punishment for our sin upon in order to reconcile us to a holy God … Jonathan responded with why he became a Christian symbolist. Oh good grief, I thought. Maybe it wasn’t a “missed opportunity” - I can’t look into someone’s heart, but Ihave not seen JP be that transparently seeking since.

I've noticed this in Dr. Peterson as well. I've listened to the majority of what he's said and I think that the message that he has been sharing is good, up to a point. You talk about Grace, and I do think that's the one thing that is missing. My journey has taken me to a point where I realised that I didn't like myself very much (or at least that I was treating myself like someone I didn't like), and was instead searching the world for validation and acceptance through various means. I realised that it had to do with Love. Though you and I may use different words, I think there's a deep acceptance that comes with surrendering to actual self-love that doesn't exist in the methods that Peterson describes. From what I've felt from him, the inner tyrant and slave still exist in his world view. I've realised for myself, that in order to be whole, one needs to heal the inner tyranny of the self, sacrifice (or let go of) the things that encourage that way of being (which is downright terrifying because the world built on that structure must change and who knows what that even means), and accept the reality of Love that is indivisible. For a man with such a big heart, I don't think he's found a way to Love himself yet.

Matthew 11:25-30 - FIRST, Jesus has all the authority and responsibility of the heavens and the earth fall onto His divine-human shoulders... then, SECOND, we can come to HIM to find rest for our souls, knowing that HE - and HE alone can carry the burden and responsibility of the world... then THIRD, we learn from Him how to live - how to live life not as a heavy burden but as an easy and light way.

I feel the same way. I love him, as you say he represents the father we all wish we had, the father we needed, a mix of tough love and encouragement, but it scares me to see in his words the idea that Jesus is not needed. We ultimately can reach God and even God status ourselves by our own effort. The whole plan of God, His redemption thru the sacrifice of Jesus is irrelevant. I fear that is why he loves the old testament, it shows the human predicament very well, it represents our current dilemma, how far we have strayed, but instead of delving into the hood news of Jesus, he is rewriting a new plan, one that is palatable for all religions, without Christ. This could be disastrous

This is the most trenchant analysis that I have heard on Jordan Peterson, both appreciative and critical as warranted. I will share it with anyone who enthuses about Peterson's messaging. Glen Scrivener's deepest insight is that Peterson has inverted Jacob's ladder, imagining that man ascends to God through striving when the Gospel proclaims otherwise: God descends to man so that man can ascend to God through faith and grace. Scrivener's insight reminds me of what St. Athanasius understood as deification: "For the Son of God became man so that we might become God."

Unfortunately, Jordan, we are unable to "stumble eternally uphill" (51:10ff). We need someone to lift us up. "All my life I have been seeking to climb out of the pit of my besetting sins and I cannot do it and I never will unless a hand is let down to draw me up." Seneca, the Stoic and counselor to Nero, late in his life, not long before he was forced to kill himself. I hope Jordan gets this part of the Story straight, as you are pointing out, Glen. Thank you for your very helpful analysis of this precious, and very helpful man. I am praying for him to see "the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God", as are many.

I'm so glad of this.I love JP but I've felt uncomfortable with the sense of his message. It does seem.despairing and about struggling alone. I spent most of life like that and it nearly killed me. I know I am here stil because Jesus carried in those darkest moments and thank God he did because I was exhausted and ready to give up . I couldn't have considered climbing up anything anymore. Thank you so much ❤

Thanks for your analysis! ARC seems to be trying to propose another utopian vision. It is empty without Jesus Christ. Matthew 16 But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” On this truth, Christ will build His church. He is the only solution to the identity crisis caused by sin. Praying for Jordan and many others that are so close yet so far.🙏

Yes the video where he is overwhelmed with tears while speaking about Jesus and “almost” realizing the two aspects of His reality made me realize that perhaps Peterson’s biggest problem is his inability to let go of his superior intellect and his insistence to “understand” the HOW of the wonder of JESUS, which is putting oneself in a situation more or less like Paul before taking Jesus’ advice “And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭9‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I want to express my gratitude for the fantastic analysis of Jordan Peterson's speech on this platform. It was the best I've watched so far, and it helped me understand how his ideas align with what God expects from us. Initially, I watched his speech and thought it was excellent, but something was missing. However, after watching your video, I can see the shortcomings in Peterson's ideas, and I am a better Christian for it. Your video is amazing because it removes the stoicism from Peterson's speech, making it easier to understand from a Christian perspective. It is fascinating how shifting the focus by reversing the direction of things could make the world a better place, closer to the image of God who created us all. Instead of us climbing up Jacob's ladder to meet God, it is God, through Jesus Christ, who comes down to rescue us from our fallen state. I am thankful to you and Jordan Peterson for providing a complete speech and overview of the right perspective.

I was glad I watched this critique of ARC, and more importantly of Jordan Peterson’s vision. There’s something Jordan says a fair amount about “not throwing the baby out with the bath water,” and I think that’s a great way approach everything, including what Jordan puts in front of us with ARC. I personally think it’s an amazing movement, since I don’t like the Malthusian or nihilistic rhetoric set before us, but I also think it is good to be cast a critical eye something positive as this so it doesn’t get led astray into what you describe as the Tower of Babel. So thank you for your insight in this video. I would love to see the a conversation with you and him, if at all possible!

Insightful commentary, I needed this. We slip into Peterson's way of thinking so easily, it's a constant fight in our culture to remember that it's not us achieving Jesus' way, it's Him with us, in us.

I think you are correct, Glen- he is moving 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Jordan is still wrestling with God. Whereas his wife , Tammy, has become humble in the light of the love she receives from Jesus and she has truly become a hopeful servant of God. She will show Jordan the right direction…eventually. Thankfully, Jodan is Likely intrinsically humble enough to adjust his message in the correct direction - away from Babel and his Syssiphian weight on his shoulders, and instead, with His hand in God’s and following His path faithfully. Give it time. And prayers. Excellent analysis. Thanks , Glenn.

None if this works without a personal God and understanding that we must be relying on the indwelling power of the Spirit of Christ. The tower of babbel ended in complete disorder because the strength was man's and was for the glory of man. There is a city who's builder and maker is God. He built it and the gates are always open. The light that shines from that city is the light of God that shines through man.

Peterson is preaching Catholicism, a man centered religion. He teaches that you don't need total faith in God to be saved, you can save yourself through works. That's why he invited a Catholic bishop, bishop Barron. Get nervous when you see agents of Catholicism involved in any movements whether they are religious or non-religious movements. Catholicism is counterfeit Christianity, a religion "having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." Peterson is preaching the religion of the anti-christ, a man centered religion instead of a God centered faith.

A brilliant video! Really breaks down JP's theology perfectly. I have warned a number of Christians against falling JP too closely because of his Babelism. I have followed him closely and learnt a ton from him too, but he is not Christ. "I know no wholesome fountain but one. I know not a thing worth the buying but Heaven; and my own mind is, if comparison were made between Christ & Heaven, I would sell Heaven with my blessing, and buy Christ." Samuel Rutherford Letter LXXII
