This is some seriously dimwitted stuff coming from you guys on this one. Mike Trout is not going to be a primary DH. Last year they had the 28th ranked offense in baseball. Willie Calhoun was their DH for much of the season… this isn’t very complicated if you know, you actually tried to look at the roster before pressing record. You likely need Mike to move to a corner, Adell will probably play center, Ward the other corner. Soler DH. Give trout 30-40 games in the DH slot. Canning has no spot in the rotation anyway. "This is bad" no it’s not, you just like to dump on the team. That’s fine.
As an Angels fan I think youre missing the point here. When has adding an expensive power hitter with no eye or other skills who is also over 30 worked for us? O'Hoppe, Trout, and Rendon all occasionally need the DH spot to stay on the field. Now we stuffed it with a $20 million+ guy that Arte will use as an excuse to spend 0 money in free agency.
@@Meetoon733 A. He’s getting paid 15 million, Canning would’ve gotten 5. So you’re actually adding about 10 to the payroll. B. There is zero reason to give Rendon at bats over Soler.. trout would probably get around 30-40 games at DH. Logan doesn’t need to DH more, he needs more days off. You need someone to produce in that spot for 80-100 games at a minimum. Soler has done that throughout his career. You can not get better without adding better hitters. Fairly simple.
The Angels ranked 28th in OPS this year and averaged 402 ABs between their starting outfielders (Ward, Moniak, Adell) and DH (Calhoun). Solare has a higher OPS than all those players and has had more ABs than them the last 2 years. Griffin Canning was not good for them (career 4.78 ERA, 5.18 ERA last year)- his only real value was eating innings. It makes more sense for them to take a shot on a few rookies to fill those innings than to have 172 innings of subpar pitching like they did in Canning, whose ceiling was clearly met with the Angels. He simply has a higher ceiling with the Braves. Good trade for both teams even though the Angels probably could've gotten more for Canning
You missed the part where the Angels are taking $20m+. Arte has chosen to underspend in free agency time after time because we spend big on the Hamiltons, Pujols, Rendon's, etc.. Now he'll use this as another excuse to not add a few 10-15 million dollar guys while Soler clogs the DH spot from O'Hoppe, Trout, and Rendon who all need it to stay healthy
@@Meetoon733. The angels consistently add players for that salary range. Arte does spend money on free agents. The angels are consistently in the top 10 in payroll. Just stop with these nonsensical talking point. The org wants to field a better roster, how do you suppose they do that?
@dylanspurlock6150 simply put, you can't improve the team enough with the choices Arte makes. We tied ourselves up with large contracts, drafted badly until recently, and gave up the farm on last minute trade deadlines that wreaked of a kid procrastinating an essay for school. Tear it down and start again. That's how you make it better.
Soler will be traded at the deadline like always so this is more about getting picks at some point instead of him helping the team. The angels are not going to be good anytime soon
The Angels have Jose Soriano and Jack Kochanowicz in the rotation who get outs on ground balls at an alarming rate. You don't need too much OF defense when those two are pitching in games. Trout can play LF and share DH time with Soler. The Angels also need middle of the order bats DH: SOLER C: O'HOPPE 1B: SCHANUEL 2B: RENGIFO SS: NETO 3B: MOORE OR SIGN / TRADE FOR SOMEBODY LF: TROUT CF/RF : ADELL/ WARD.
Typical Arte move. Bad eye power hitter over 30 with a high salary. Nothing will change with this team until he is gone. Doesn't matter who the GM or manager is.
Trout in left, Rendon is coming off the bench or fighting for the 3B spot I believe Washington said, and you get Soler who is a DH. Taylor Ward is getting traded though. That's the real news out of this. I wish AJ would shut the hell up. As an Angels fan, I don't want him talking about the Angels. We HATE HIM
I can understand why Angels fans protect Ippei Waste money (off season) and get angry ↓ It will be successful next time ↓ Waste money (off season) and get angry ↓ ♾️ They were protecting themselves
There’s merit here. Look at who DH’d last year for the Angels…trash players. Angels would be happy getting 120 games out of Trout in say LF. Of those 120 games they’ll throw Trout at the DH 30 of them, with Soler playing the field for those 30 games.
Or maybe, like maybe, he’s a depth piece that doesn’t play every day. The Angels desperately have tried to plug and play scrubs when starters get hurt(which they do a lot). Necessary OFF days, not DH days, will be needed for Trout, so having a power bat as depth on the bench that probably has splits for RHP/LHP pretty heavily one sided is needed instead of fucking Willie Calhoun lmao Save the trade like you said, and we come back after the offseason is over. There are more moves to be done. Dont be so dramatic lol
You guys are such Angel haters my god (especially Scott)🤦🏻♂️they’re gonna make more moves, trout and soler will cycle through DH and corner outfield positions, oh and it’s 13-16 mil this year and next
I'm not an Angel hater. I'm a realist. I talk about moves and give opinions on them. This is the wrong move. You can disagree. It's baseball. I've been 99.9% right about how Arte is operating this team for a long time now. Even going back to my days at MLBN where I had to be nicer about it but still called it out
Soler spends most of the time at DH, takes over for Trout in a corner OF spot when Trout is DH. Trout should be moved to a corner OF spot, no more CF. Overthinking by our hosts
Soler in OF at all at this point is a losing move. Wash will lose his mind with that defense. Trust me, I watched every game he played in the OF with ATL
