A General Theory of Oblivion is a 2012 novel by the Angolan author, José Eduardo Agualusa. Agualusa was born in 1960 in Nova Lisboa, and went on to study agronomy at the university of Lisbon, which is when he began writing short stories and poems. He published his first novel - A Conjura - in 1989, about the jostling of the varied ethnic and economic interests in Luanda at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th.
