In this video I present Pierre Loti (1850-1923) a french author who is almost forgotten (outside France). The focus is on his novel "An Iceland Fisherman".
This is a touching novel about friendship and love among three young people that belong to the Iceland Fishermen of a small coastal town (Paimpol) in Brittany, France, at the end of the 19th century. A novel with very dense and poetic description of the ambivalence between fascination and horror of the hard live at sea and the forces of nature.
