--------
In the latest clip, Jose Canseco described life as a minor league baseball player and revealed when he first started using performance-enhancing drugs. After struggling in his first few years and playing for various teams, Canseco's turning point came when he promised his mother on her death bed that he'd become the best player in the world. Days after making his promise, he started using steroids and was the minor league's Player of the Year a year later.

He makes an excellent point about the longevity of ballplayers. The players of the 90's HAD to play longer than they wanted because of money security, etc.. The Cal Ripken Jr's, Jesse Orosco's, Julio Franco's, etc.. Now, since at least 2010, you won't even see a player go past 10yrs due to various reasons, particularly injuries.

You can hate steroids all you want and so do I but it does give you an advantage and I know the Commissioner had a love hate relationship with players that used. At the same time it got baseball going again when a lot of people stopped watching because is was boring and a lot of small ball and the Commissioner can say he didn't like it all he wants but he and everyone knows it jump started MLB when Canseco and McGwire and Sosa started that home run derby that everyone wanted to see and couldn't stop watching. I know in my era of baseball was the 80s and 90s was the best to watch in terms home runs and just exciting baseball.they should be in the hall of fame for just making baseball exciting again when no one was watching.
