I never tire of listening to this song. Such a beautiful melody and lyrics, I love songs that tell a story. And with Jose’s wonderful voice and the amazing way he makes his guitar speak, it’s magical.
As a Roma gypsy I always been fascinated with him ! Thanx to my father I grew up on he’s music and now I understand why my father was crazy about him he’s passion for music is very close to the passion of gypsy musicians … Jose your one of kind musician singer the best of the best .. ! South Americans should be very proud of this man that he’s from their group 🙏 ❤️

Jose Feliciano is the composer of this song (music and lyrics). originally released on his album For My Love... Mother Music in 1974 one of his best compositions (in my opinion). Everyone who knows only a little about him know that this song is deeply personal, he is singing about himself

It is one of his best compositions - in my opinion The song is just great - the lyrics, the music, the guitar solo and his voice - the whole song is deeply personal and touching. It is surprising that it didn't became a hit.
This song not is released in any cd by RCA at today, You can only find it in the original Vinyl album released in 1974 called "For My Love, Mother Music"

I remember being mesmerized by this man's performance on Sesame Street in the early 1970's. Back then, Sesame Street included some adult content. Hip and edgy at times. Love, love, LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE!!!!
Same here. NHK (Nihon Housou Kyoukai/Japan Broadcasting Corporation) put Sesame Street on the air on its Educational Channel in early 70's, and I loved to watch them. I just happened to record this song with my tape recorder, and I cannot count how many times I listened to. I just love the song.
Last night Jose won his 8th Grammy for an latin album after exactly 40 years his firsts 2 Grammy for his english album "Feliciano!" from 1968 when he was a superstar. I hope record companies give him again the chance to record again english album like those of this incredible song, where he can truly shown how is the most incredible guitarist of this world.

One thing I didn't know until the RU-vid days is that there are musicians located behind the cameras, positioned away from the set, and that's why you hear other instruments in addition to Feliciano's guitar.
Jose's favorite is called a "Candelario". Currently, & for the last 20 years or more, Kirk Sand of The Guitar Shoppe, in Laguna Beach, Ca., has been custom-building instruments for Jose. Kirk and Jim Mathewson have developed a design with Jose that they call aptly, the Jose Feliciano Model. It has the larger-than-usual dreadnot body but, of course, with nylon strings and a cutaway for easier access up the fret board. It's a lovely instrument with sweet richness that is both deep and clean.
Back in 1975 or so, at the age of 5 or 6, I was at my grandfather's house in Aurora, IL and we saw this clip on Sesame Street. My grandfather didn't mention Jose Feliciano's name, but did point out that he was blind. I only found out in recent years who Jose Feliciano is, and that he also sings "Feliz Navidad."
I have fond memories of staying at my grandfather's house back in 1975 or so and catching this clip when I was watching Sesame Street with him. I don't think my grandfather mentioned that this was Jose Feliciano but just pointed out that he was blind.
