NO DOUBT! Just realizing this now and I was listening to Incubus wayyyy back. Had no idea how talented and special he really is. Super pro dude. Underrated for sure!
funny how you come across stuff you thought no one would even care on drums, through the years, and suddenly you see this, yeeeears ago and still get to find new details everytime, god bless JoPa, he is the messi of drums.
Jose has always been such an on-point drummer and you can really hear the Stewart Copeland beat style in his music. Sick Sad Little World has got to be one of his finest achievements in playing drums for all these years
I absolutely love drum-heavy songs. First time I heard this one I just sat there literally going, "OOH! OH MY GOD!! DAMN! YES!" one of my very fave songs of all time TBH thanks to Jose
I haven't seen a video of Jose for years and now going back to them I realize I based more of my style and chops off of him than any other drummer. He's a beast and super underrated
This guy has been one of my favorite drummers for years. Some people drum like metronomes and that's ok. Guys like David Grohl do that and are still fantastic drummers but Jose's offbeat (but on beat) style is really interesting. You just don't get bored with this guy.
Yep, self taught and listens to so many genre's of music. He does play to a metronome but you would never tell by how loose/fluid he plays. He's the reason I started playing 15 years ago.
Terry Blackwell Jesus? Just click my username, I haven't uploaded a cover In a long time but I have a bunch of Incubus drum Covers on my page and some from a great band called "Wax On Radio" that aren't together anymore. Great Ambient/progressive rock band. they were all recorded with an old non HD camera so quality Isn't that great.
Dude i wish i won the lottery, because I'd invite Jose over for a jam and some lessons. He is the most coolest drummer ever and I have been playing off and on a while. I love his style. Just amazing 🎉
haha it's funny how people can be so stupid, disliking a video of the drummer who composed and reinterpret the drums for a live show of an original composition of his works, it's just hard to understand
que chimba como toca este man , es un maestro de la bateria, me encanta esos redobles y todo su modo de tocar , felicitaciones a Jose Pasillas, me gustaria conocerlo en persona, es un placer verlo !!!!
I was never a drummer or even picked up sticks but I think I just drooled on myself with my mouth hanging open. Are there even words????? Best I can do is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and BEAST. phenomenal.
i was there and yeah, recorded the clinic and the concert with my smart phone....know whats cool? I can go back and watch those videos and remember the energy, the experience of it all.....
I wish I could find the pic I have with Jose when my friend won a contest in 2001 to meet the band (I was her plus one because I’m a bigger fan) during the civic SI tour. They “designed” an SI. Brandon didn’t come out of his trailer that was parked in fucking the middle of Broad Street. Jose and Mike were beyond amazing in person. And their talent still still blows my mind. Thank you for being sick and down-to-earth!
Jose Pasallias: Very much one of my favourite drummers. Precision & skill, Incubus in whole is a sound of elation as it is very unique. Much love for these guys.
Hi mate, sorry if this is a late reply and you've already figured this out, but for that pattern he's moving the right hand from the ride down onto the snare its pretty much a single stroke roll and then you throw a few accents in on the left hand hope this helps mate, and sorry if you've already figured it out!
Y’all ain’t gonna believe this. But I’ve always heard a rumor there was a famous family member who plays the drums in a famous band. Imagine. #INCUBUSFORLIFE!!
"Pasillas tilts his snare drum to get a rimshot, and though he sits low, he generally uses a heel-up approach on the bass drum pedal" from his recent drummagazine! interview.
Pasillas IMO one of the best drummer of all time. Love that he add a some 'spice' in this song compared to the album. It's a shame that we can't see a better view of his hand movements. But still a good video and a great channel. Keep it up!
By now you have finally figured it out bro but I wondered the exact same thing once I saw some sheet music for this version of the song! If you are able to read music/count on the verses he brings his right hand down on the snare for all the up beats (the "ands"). And he plays the ride cymbal on all the down beats (the one, two, three, and four's). The left hand would be way too hard for me to explain so just play what feels natural with it, happy drumming!
While you can point out technical flaws, it's hard to ignore his ability to blend several genres into one unique piece of art. I find it very innovative
@percybrv No he plays pro mark sticks thats are special cut for him..he said they're inbetween 5A and 5B and about 1/2 inch longer. his sticks arent available to buy sadly.
