The version later was different🤔 I can't remember the change... Is there somewhere to listen to the later version without me finding it in an episode. I'm in the 800's in episode episodes now
@@KrystalKalleenI came here because the MOVIE House of Dark Shadows is airing now ( of course, it’s near Halloween) so I searched RU-vid and found this. Maybe there’s a video clip of the music box from that movie. Right after it, a YT video of Quentin’s theme started playing.
Imagine listening to an hour loop or two of listening to Josette's Music Box it makes you wonder what dreams you may have if you fall asleep to the music.
Yes, it took me several attempts to find this version. Many were labeled as original music, but they were the version from the later color episodes. Glad I finally found this version or it would have "haunted" me knowing this version must still be out there somewhere.
This is a beautiful melody which I remembered when I first started watching DARK SHADOWS in the 1960's. Too bad music boxes are not as popular as they once were. 🎼🎶🎶
I was around 5 or 6 years old when this aired and loved this melody. It stuck with me for years and years. When I went back to watch the shows as an adult, and heard the 2nd version (written by Bob Cobert), I didn't like it at all. Had to go back further into the earlier episodes to hear this original one. I can see lots of people in the comments below prefer the newer one. I think it just means whichever one we heard first seems like the proper one.
A much later edit: I messed up. The above RU-vid Robert Cobert version is not the original music box song. Both versions are very close. Robert Farnon had the first longer version and Cobert's version is subtly different. The very first one by Robert Farnon and was found and used from ABC's archive. Farnon's can be found on the RU-vid channel Music Box Melodies: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2opXrp479Fc.html Bob Cobert did the scores for DS that helped with creating the mood of the show. He composed the above version, but it clearly was based on the original Farnon composition. Bob Cobert was a good composer in his own right. Farnon's version was only used on DS for a brief period of time and the reason why is explained below. Canadian Robert Farnon was a great composer who worked with many American artists and won four Ivor Novello Awards. Turns out that "being older than dirt" means some mental lapses at times. Sorry. -------------------------------------------------------- Original post: Thank you so much for putting the original Josette's Theme up for DS fans. It was unbelievably difficult to locate. I liked both of the themes. For those questioning why they changed the themes, DS didn't own the copyright to the original Robert Farnon version. Dan Curtis wanted to own any copyright to anything DS, so he had Robert Corbert create a second version. That is likely the one that people remember, unless they're older than dirt, like I am. ;-)
I have been watching DS for a year now and didn't recognize the sound was different 🤔 I'm in the 800's episodes with Quentin now. Is there somewhere to hear the newer version? I can't believe I didn't notice🤔
@@KrystalKalleen - Hi Krystal! Noted your response and had to edit my original post due to my own oopsie. Read my addition and you'll see the link to the actual original music box song. The above is the second version that most of us remember. Unless you have a mind like a steel trap, you wouldn't notice much of a difference. Clearly, my mind is not a steel trap. 🤣 Enjoy your DS viewing. So glad it's been online for awhile. There is also a site called "Dark Shadows Every Day." I think that's what it's called. One guy went through the show, minus the part prior to Barnabas, and wrote summaries of every episode. He's out there on some things that people may not agree with but, in general, it's a nice read to do in tandem with viewing DS. (I do recommend going back to the very beginning after you're done. I found it well worth my time to have some Collinsport background.) Farnon - original version Cobert - second version
@@snickers2877 wow thank you so much! Now that I listened to it, yes I realize there is a difference. I like the first one, much prettier. I thought the melody was "off" for some reason. Oh yes I've gotten on that website. Also I am on the DS historical society and the "Fandom" account a lot. I've watched the show since the very first episode. Some people start the show when Barnabas comes in but I didn't and I'm glad. I really miss Victoria 🥺 it was very sad when they cut her out. Also I hate the way they cut out, 🤔 geez I forgot his name, her first fiance that died in a plane crash. I liked his character. Everytime I wonder why "this or that" happened or why they got rid of someone I look it up. Right now in the show I really miss "Magda"🥺 I Loved her character so much. Barnabas hasn't been on for a long time either. I am going to be extremely sad when I'm entirely finished with the show 🥺
When my first of three Daughters was born I had this tune made into a different looking music box and when she was itty bitty I would play it while she sat in her baby rocker and finally the time came to put it away ..but I saved it..and I gave it to her the day she got married...and she cried..and when she had her first baby, a girl several years ago she played it for her the same way....❤ my girls
Of course it was! The early episodes when Barnabas was holding Maggie captive! He gave her Josette's music box that played this tune. She would listen to it spellbound. Then Barnabas gave the music box to Vicky and she listened to it as well. This song was played a lot on the show!
