This month marks the 55th anniversary of the recording of Lesley Gore's hit "California Nights", in November of 1966. Released in January of 1967, the song reached a peak of #16 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as a peak of #11 on the Cash Box chart. With such exemplary numbers, "California Nights" proved itself to be a commercial comeback for Lesley, whose two previous singles, "Off And Running" and "Treat Me Like A Lady", had only managed to reach #108 and #115, respectively. I had originally posted a music video for this song on May 2nd of this year (on what would have been Lesley's 75th birthday), but I accidentally deleted it. Which sucks because it was nearing 10k views. However, I had wanted to re-do the video for some time, since my editing skills have improved quite a bit over the past six months. So hopefully you guys love this new rendition as much as I do. But most importantly, I hope you love this SONG as much as I do. It's one of my all-time favorites. Enjoy, and be sure to subscribe!

I toured w Leslie in 1978. We played this song. Leslie was the coolest person. An incredible singer...so kind and funny. Gone too soon.

I wanted this song back in the day, but the single was sold out at Newberry's. Then just this afternoon, it came up on the local classic hits station.

Classic Batman episode ! The Catwoman's " kittens " get serenaded by Lesley Gore . Those days were so much fun . Bring back the mini skirt !! Sure the world had its problems but not like the crap today . Thanks for a breath of fresh air .

I met her at Zig Zag Record Store on Avenue U, Brooklyn, NY I want to say early 2000's when she cut a CD of her popular songs & hits. I bought her CD and she autographed it for me. She was very friendly, kind warm and gracious. What a shame she died so young. RIP.

My favorite song by far by Lesley Gore-the arrangement, her voice, and her, uh, surprising appearance in the cat suit. (That's all I'm going to say about that.) I remember where I was the first time I heard it, standing with my first cousins on a hill, looking out over the beautiful Canadian landscape that was practically in their back yard in the small Washington border town of Sumas. I never tire of hearing this song.

My big sister had all her records. I grew up as a little guy listening to this, along with Petula Clark and many others. But Lesley got the most play at the house, I think.
