Everyone who makes an issue out of stuff like this has obviously never played baseball. There’s a psychological tactical part to it where you will do anything to make the opposing team lose their concentration. It starts at a young age… the chubby kid gets cold fat, the kid with glasses four eyes. Remember there’s no crying in baseball.
Overall just an interesting situation escalated much more than it needed to be as there's a drive to left field by castellanos and that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame.
I think "Jackie " became an issue when other players heard JD call TA Jackie and tried to be heroes, the "brawl" was started by the other dummies. This whole thing is is like a cheerleading squad beef
No it became an issue when LaRussa saw a way to fire up his team thats doing poorly, regardless of the harm it caused! Wasn't an issue at all before that ugh
Why is it accepted and basically expected for basketball, football and hockey players to trash talk and get under the competition's skin, but not baseball players? Anderson's self comparison to Jackie Robinson is an insult to Jackie-everybody knows that.
I'm a Yankees fan and when I heard they traded for Donaldson I thought, "Oh no. Not that guy. He's trouble." Well, here it is. EDIT: Have you noticed that they have lost their last three games? I'm sure it is just a coincidence.
@@tedunguent156 Donaldson is known for being the bad guy or playing the villain but can you agree that in this case he was not playing that role and he wasn't the aggressor? He was actually trying to defuse the situation, and give the guy credit he's a competitor, top tier competitor
@@AG-fv4yb Trouble follows the guy wherever he goes. None of his former teammates will stick up for him. Of course he is a terrific ballplayer. That won't get him off the hook and it shouldn't. He should start acting like a grownup.
If a current player called themselves “Babe Ruth” and opposing players teased that player calling them “Babe” in mockery, they wouldn’t be making fat jokes. Our society makes drastic decisions and stances without giving it clear, sober thought. Maybe Josh Donaldson is an asshole, but prove it with actual evidence, not contrived controversy. Too many people want social clout so they latch onto the current thing. This is the same poisoning that’s happening at large culturally manifesting itself in pro sports.
Exactly...So tired of all these whiny pansies...and just cause someone is a asshole to you, it does not mean they are racist. It means their an asshole. Get over your self.
My dude, you don't even wonder why Donaldson took unrelenting pleasure in pouncing on the opportunity to call out Tim Anderson for making a weird reference or comparison to an iconic black figure? He knew he could excuse it just like you are. It wasn't okay.
@@tectomes I think it’s a funny clown. The guy without a sense of humility compared himself to Jackie Robinson as though his accomplishments were comparable. Did Josh Donaldson mention either Tim Anderson’s race or Jackie Robinson’s? Player A compares themselves to a legendary player he is not, Player B clowns them. Player A gets butt hurt about it. That’s all we have here. You are applying intent to Donaldson’s actions, so what is the intent of the folks who injected race into the issue? If a person thinks all benign interactions between races have racist or racial undertones I question that person’s intent.
He was obviously trying to humble him a bit. Because who the hell compares themselves to Jackie Robinson!? I take more exception to THAT than anything Donaldson said. I'm not a Donaldson fan by any means, but it's glaringly obvious he was trying to embarrass him for making a ludicrous comparison of himself.
Whoa whoa...WHOA! Buddy, that kind of sound logic won't be tolerated 'round these parts. This here is a professional sport, and things like "Jackie" or "Poophead" aren't taken lightly....
Refreshing comment. I think the majority of people understand but Tim Anderson mumbled some sort of racial allegation afterwards and now everyone has to get behind it or they’re racist? Framing an incident between a white and black player as racism from the white player is the trend these days. We know this. It’s not surprising. More divisive tactics to sell sports media. Common sense has been ejected from the game. Jackie Robinson withstood true, hateful, and violent ignorance. Tim Anderson couldn’t lace up Jackie’s boots, yet no one calls him out for that abomination of a comparison.
I am not a fan of Josh Donaldson. However, I am not a fan of Tim Anderson. Anderson will NEVER be anywhere near the level of Jackie Robinson. From what I know of the situation, it does not appear racist.

I agree, he called himself the modern day Jackie Robertson. Donaldson is a gamer. He is 36 and still playing at a high level. By calling him Jackie I feel wasn't racist
@@gmoney5300 I hate the Yankees, I just know dumb political bullshit when I see it. My point still stands, TA called himself Jackie on television..it’s been documented, dont see why another player calling him that is racist at all. JD was clearly clowning him for sure but whatever dude needs to be humbled.
Let's keep it real. MLB tries to draw connection between Tim Anderson and Jackie Robinson multiple times over the years. MLB network interviewed him nearly every year on Jackie Robinson day and asked him to talk about the significance of JR. Does it make MLB racist too? It is OK for MLB to use that connection to promote baseball in black community and suddenly it's racist for Donaldson to call TA Jackie. Especially TA also made that connection and done things like writing JR a letter and wearing cleats with no. 42 on it. Also TA was the poster boy of MLB's let the kids play campaign. TA was pimping HRs and jawing at oppositing pitchers. Now he finds JD being disrespectful? So he interpreted JD as disrespectful and it was ok for him showing up the opponents. It seems there is quite a bit of double standard. It's like MLB want to use him to steal fans from a certain demographic from football and basketball. So MLB tolerate TA's behavior and punish JD to make themselves look good. Just dirty man.
There’s a HUGE difference between being asked about a connection to Jackie because of the significance of being a black baseball star by the MLB and someone snidely saying “Wassup Jackie”. Don’t act like the context of the remark is meaningless.
Wow ball players all play pile on J Donaldson, what a surprise. So Donaldson get under peoples skin. Should we examine the day Anderson flipped of the spectators at that days ball game, or are we supposed to all be so ridiculously PC? Anderson is about as close to what J Robinson was as I am to being Elon Musk.
Wow, didnt expect the yankees and judge to throw donaldson under the bus so quickly. I'm not of colour but in my book this was an attempt to humble a guy that compares himself to one of the biggest names in baseball. Where i come from u gonna hear that stuff alot and u better not be sensetive about it.
Why should anybody care what Joe Kelly says? He’s literally known for throwing hard and hitting batters.. not being a good pitcher or respected ball player 😂
Joe Kelly can be pretty good at times, but he’s really inconsistent - partially because he gets injured all the time. But last year while he was healthy, he was clutch for the dodgers. 2.86 ERA and .997 WHIP.
So, the Joe Kelly who said, “Way to go, stud” to Aaron Hicks after picking him off at second is the same guy who criticizes Donaldson for having the gall to mock Anderson? BTW, if we’re having a popularity contest of MLB players, where do you think Joe Kelly would land?

Try to strike a balance. In no way was this a racist thing to say. Ballplayers say things, as far as insults Jackie Robinson truly went through hell, nothing like this.
Over reaction by Anderson (in context) , over reaction by MLB reactionaries.. Donaldson might be a jerk and may have slightly mocked Anderson (in context) but calling anyone in today's game by the name of an incredible man and athlete who is so well respected........dont make it more than it is.
I'm a person of color and despise Donaldson although I'm a die hard Yankee fan but in NO WAY was that comment racist. If anyone saw the game in question, Donaldson slid into 2nd base on a double play and was called out. On his way back to the dugout, Anderson made a comment to him which then warranted a reaction from Donaldson. I think that\s when Donaldson probably mocked Anderson who kinda called himself the new Jackie Robinson three years ago. As much of a trouble maker as Donaldson is, he did not start this and definitely did not warrant a suspension.
You are right. It's no big deal. Donaldson gave Anderson some razz. I used to get pissed off as a kid at the same thing. My Dad said don't get pissed off. He said I has ''rabbit ears'' which is exactly what Anderson has. Cry baby. And Tim Anderson is a pain in the ass. He's a professional at it.
Man, if Joe Kelly’s comments and the yanks response don’t piss you off, you’re not a Yankee fan. They look soft af over this. They won’t win anything with this culture/clubhouse.
Clubhouse culture is way overrated, The Yankees of the 70's pretty much hated Reggie Jackson, they still won. The A's of the early 70's also hated Jackson and they won. Teammates can not get along with each other and still win.
As a Yankees fan I was feeling great about this season after the start they got off to. Now after this whole situation and seeing how NOBODY (expect i think Nestor) had JD's back was sad to see. Judge only cares about looking good so he can get more value this offseason....As a team they should all be on JD's side and have his back and say it wasn't a racist comment. With this chemistry I don't see them winning the trophy. TBH Tim Anderson should never have called himself the new Jackie Robinson cuz he wouldn't even be able to clean this mans jock strap let alone be like him.
Im not surprised that the Yankees are not defending JD I mean the Yankees are a bunch of “white yes man pu**ies. Actually JD is bringing some fighting spirit until this incident. I've been hating on Josh Donaldson since before it was cool. However, player "beefs" are fucking lame and Tim Anderson has slightly better glove skills than my grandmother and in no way has any business comparing himself to Jackie Robinson.
I don't care for JD but I'm behind him on this. Yankees suck... Now I was always taught to stand by my teammates, right or wrong. If they were wrong, you take care of it behind closed doors. If I were JD , I think I'd have a season ending injury. Again, Yankees suck.
And yet in the game where all of this happened......Donaldson had called Anderson "Jackie" throughout the game. Anderson never said a word. Finally his teammates got damn tired of it and that was when the trouble started

Yeah I just don’t understand why black players take offense to racist comments in 2022. White people like josh Donaldson are so oppressed. That’s how people who defend J.D. sound. How could T.A. have ever known J.D. was referencing that article in the moment, plus he doesn’t really think he’s Jackie Robinson and even says in the article Jackie went through way worse. this is like when a cop kills a black guy and it comes out later he had some small illegal history and people say he deserved it. Omg you said “especially if they have colored skin” what a loser
Being labeled a racist is like being called a child molester these days. Getting accused of it can ruin you and nobody will defend you because it will then bring negative attention on *them.*
Comparing yourself to an absolute legend having never achieved anything that legend did in the era he did it is far more disrespectful. I hope entire stadiums start chanting "Jackie" at Anderson.....
The only person who thinks that Donaldson is not a total jerk is Donaldson himself. When a person has one incident, we for the most part give the person the benefit of the doubt. When a person has had as many incidents as Donaldson has had including with his own teammates it just becomes impossible to continue giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Conveniently left out the part where Giolitto said Donaldson should say it to his face. You say that to a guy then you should expect him to show up persinally to confront you
@@iTalkStudios You don't have to take sides to present full context and let others decide for themselves. Timmy felt "disrespected" after that scuffle push tag at 3rd base last week, you know beta male energy. So now he has to pull the race card and bring all that to MLB.
Tim Anderson is not above trash talk or being mocked simply because he is black. Whenever you compare yourself to a great in any industry the people of that industry are going to make fun of you and say you're not that person that happens across the board from Athletics to anything else. And that doesn't mean it's racist. MLB suspending Josh Donaldson isn't going to help race relations between black and white ball players is going to hurt it this isn't going to lead to them interacting more this is going to lead to them interacting less. And in every instance of people talking negatively of Josh Donaldson they never once said he's racist so we don't have to interject racism right here when there is no evidence of it whatsoever
“Joe Kelly doesn’t like JD Liam Hendricks doesn’t like JD and Tim Anderson doesn’t like JD. Basically the whole white Sox team doesn’t like JD”. Lmao😂😂
Calling someone a racist who WASN'T being racist isn't breaking the color barrier; if anything, it's the opposite. He literally pulled the race card simply to get the upper hand on someone he doesn't like. MLB trying to save face and "be proactive" instead of analyzing the situation is also part of the problem. It's like the boy who cried wolf, except the boy still wins. This situation is just ruining the fun, the EXCACT opposite thing this dude claims to be bringing to baseball.
This just shows how incredibly kucked sports have become. And just how fast people i.e. "Tony Larussa" will boot lick just to virtue signal. This is a sad State of affairs.

Sooo...a legit question. Forgetting all of the past Donaldson history for a moment. If Aaron Judge refers to himself as the "new Babe Ruth" or the "modern day Babe Ruth" and somewhere down the road, Anderson wants to bust his chops for it...maybe get under his skin a bit, by calling him "Babe" does that make that Anderson a racist? Exactly. We all know the type. If Josh Donaldson was a racist he would know not to even be seen arguing with a black man. Josh didn't view him as a black man, any more than he thought about how white Gerrit Cole is. But in today's world race racism sells. Its what people care about especially liberal voters who make up half of usa. So a white man should not be arguing in public with black man. Its the way the world works.
He does seem like a bit of a jerk, but honestly his explanation seems valid in my opinion. Tim comparing himself to Jackie Robinson was just plain dumb I’m actually surprised that he hasn’t been called “Jackie” by other players before now.
The premise of this posting is already biased. "Let me know what you think of Josh Donaldson" (and it's contextual content). It doesn't ask for opinions of either ball player's behavior. Both players have had bad press about them, as does Joe Kelly as does Tony LaRussa for that matter. Lots of stones and glass houses here. Lots fanfare for character demolition. The incident is too rich with opportunity for people to judge, be biased and project their own stuff.
So Anderson acts like a punk and a clown, calls out other players and has absolutely no class like Jackie Robertson but gets no punishment and gets to call other players racist
Lets just say that anything regarding race coming from the mouth of Tony LaRussa should be questioned. He could be right about the Jackie comment, but consdering his past words and actions...yeah....
Tim Anderson is not some kind of a modest guy by relating himself to Jackie Robinson, doing bat flips and telling the Yankees Stadium crowd to "shut the fk up", etc. He frankly brought Donaldson's matter onto himself. I am not hearing this said here and elsewhere. Donaldson is a stupid idiot, but not a racist, for calling him "Jackie". AND NO, IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT THE WHITE SOX THINK OF HIM. That is simply stupid to include here. Absolutely, meaningless! Baseball is not a popularity contest.
Donaldson is a warrior of a competitor. Hard to argue with an MVP. The virtue signaling and calling him a racist is just woke and pathetic garbage. He may not even be a "nice guy" all the time. But gtfo with the racist BS.
At this point, it’s more about disliking Donaldson as a person. He might be an ass but definitely not racist for calling him Jackie. If someone calls himself Babe Ruth, he deserves to be make fun of for disrespecting Babe.
Also I guarantee you everybody would've thrown Donaldson under the bus !!! Yes Donaldson can be a pest, but if he's on your team he'll defend you and back you up no matter what . This particular case it's total overreaction by Tim Anderson. Something tells me Anderson just got annoyed which I can see as a reason, but not the racist tag that it was attached to it .
Anderson is being ridiculous, enough is enough. Grow up, our society is becoming so soft and we are offended by everything. It is beyond ridiculous, when you live in the 2020s and you compare yourself to Jackie Robinson, you deserve to be laughed at because you are a joke
I think Tim Anderson comparing himself to the legend that is Jackie Robinson is disrespectful. TA couldn't carry Jackie's jock strap. I'm a Giants fan and hate the Dodgers....but not Jackie Robinson. Jackie had balls the size of churchbells.
Jackie Robinson knew how and when to take the ugly words and actions from other people--at the orders of Dodger general manager Branch Rickey. When allowed to later, however, he could show a jerky side. But it was his ability to take those nasty words and actions that made him the outstanding model of a real man. He was not God by a long shot, but he was indeed a textbook story of strength.
Bottom line. There’s a marked difference between being a douchebag and being a racist. Donaldson is the former. All racists are douchebags but all douchebags are NOT necessarily racists.
Tim is the one who said I'm the new Jacky and donaldson just called tim what he called himself, that's what's wrong with people in the world people are just to soft, and other thing I'm pretty sure that if quote quote tim said something racist to donaldson nothing would happen bc tim is black and donaldson is white. But whatever ig.
As a Yankee fan, my thoughts on Josh Donaldson are as follows....he is a solid third baseman with some pop in his bat and he doesn't seem to take any shit. Doesn't sound like a bad guy to have on your team. No matter who you play for, there are going to be guys with no vocal filter. It's 25 different personalities trying to make it through 162 games together and execute their jobs to be the absolute best. Who cares what his personal life is like or who he offends. If he is performing to the best of his ability when he takes the field is all I care about. Also I'd like to add, I highly doubt he's racist.
Anderson can’t even compare to Jackie Robinson. He’s one of the all time greats; Just look at the numbers. Even though JD didn’t mean it as portrayed by the media; he should’ve known this was going to happen. I’m glad he didn’t try to lie and owned up to what he said.
