@@RandomDeforge I haven’t talked with him since HS (El Dorado class of 1991). We weren’t best friends or anything like that. We sat next to each other in a boring ass class and were the kind of kids who didn’t want to be there. So we talked and fucked around. Funny thing is sitting out in the hallway was much better! Btw, Josh had his own signature drum sticks in HS. Everyone kinda knew he’d be successful.
@@rocknative70 I don’t think we would have had a problem with Sting teaching us English in High School. That’s for sure! Mr. Leonard though, was boring AF. Ironically, I’m a college professor now lol.
Freese is in my top 5 drummers of all time. Been lucky enough to see him perform with a few different bands, the first of which being NIN on the lights in the sky tour. Amazing performer, and his skill level rivals anyone
The musicianship, recording, production, songs everything on Ten Summoners Tales is some of the best I’ve ever heard. The band sounds amazing. You can hear every instrument. The groove is ridiculous. And the drums sound phenomenal. I know I’m gushing here. Can you tell I’m a Sting fan? 😂
I just LOVE this song. I’ve played it over and over since it came…… haha, I should have kept track of the number of times. And Vinnie has always been one of my favourites. I always worry that he’ll bite his tongue one of these times. He probably already has. Great little short and story!
Josh Freese is one of the best drummers ever, not necessarily most notable or flashiest, but he is a very good drummer, and seeing him freaked out about stuff like that makes me confident about my musical skills as well
For those saying not a shuffle because of time signature... Fool in the Rain (4/4) a shuffle. Rosanna (2/4) a shuffle. I can name several more. This drum beat is definitely a shuffle defined by its snycopation/swing.
Since Vinnie was able To play for Zappa… who by all accounts was a VERY discerning musician… Freese being complimented by Sting comparing him to Coliuta is a moment worthy of bragging about
It's the same story with Jeff Pocaro. He didn't fell like he had really mastered the shuffle but everyone who heard them said they were amazing. A lot of drummers seem to get rattled by the shuffle... even when they are killing it.
And now has a great windfall playing with the Foo Fighters. Great musicians always seem to find lucrative gigs, especially those willing to travel those insane tour schedules…

@@PrinceAsmodeus I have never seen a drummer more versatile than Vinnie. A few years back Vinnie cut 3 albums in a one month span. Straight ahead jazz Album with Herbie Hancock, rock album with sting and a full metal album with Megadeath. Top it off no one sight reads like Vinnie. He is the GOAT
I’ve had Josh Freese in my top three all-time drummers list, for 20 years now. I don’t see him ever falling out of it. His overhead sounds, and grooves, on the 13th Step Album..🤌
This guy is one of the reasons that the Foo’s continue to put out great music. It’s hard losing your drummer of over 20 years and an amazing friend and great person, but one of the best things has to be having someone you know is going to live up to that legacy, like Josh did with Vinnie. I think Josh is one of the best drummers out there and he’s perfect for whatever band he’s in. RIP Taylor, still loved and missed
This is all you need to hear, to know that Foo Fighters picked the right guy. He’s literally transcended human drumming and has become “machine” status, yet he’s STILL just an AMAZING guy. Good luck to you, Josh Freese. Keep being an amazing man.
I have met a lot of musicians good and bad and the best ones think they are the worst and the most confident are terrible lol sometimes but a lot of sometimes 😅
You generally shuffles in blues songs... Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc... a very famous Shuffle Groove that all drummers love to play is the groove from that Toto song Rosanna.
