A greAt werewolf movie along with The Wolf Man in 1941 and John Landis' An American Werewolf in London. Also, Dee Wallace is excellent and sad in the end. Great cameos by John Carradine and Slim Pickens.

I've been marking my territory with smily faces since I saw this on video in the 80's. Can't see a smily without thinking of this film, The first time I saw this I got really scared as soon as Terry made the connection on the cliff. Then we see the sticker in the hut. When the transformed Eddie just appears unannounced, I was so ramped up that it's one of the most chilling moments I ever enjoyed as a kid. Thanks Joe!

You're absolutely correct, Josh. It's one of those rare films where you can laugh and be scared in the same scene. Excellent cast too. Any film that can feature Patrick Macnee, Kevin McCarthy, Dick Miller, and Slim Pickens is OK in my book!

I would really like to see Dante and Sayles get back together again for another film. Just make sure that Dick Miller is in it.

A fun film and it's obvious why it led to the sequels, which never touched the original in skill or atmosphere. I actually know someone who worked on the FX crew and he has some cool stories.

Robert Picardo's transformation was fantastic and chilling. Also so weird to see him with hair. And I don't just mean the fur.

The Book The Howling has Werewolves. That about the only connection between the Book and the Movie

I could be wrong but Mike Nesmith blew up the whole Smiley face thing first in (I think) Elephant Parts...some skit called "Have a Nice Day." Same year, actually, so hard to say which came first.

Joe Dante is quite possibly the most "unsung" of all the "heroes" in Hollywood. Of course, I mean that in a positive, fan-boy like way.....and not referring to all the crap we are hearing about now. whatever.....Joe Needs to make a comeback!!

Damn Josh! How much is Joe paying you? Look, I love this movie - I do - but to say it stands head and shoulders above AAWIL is a little suck-up-y. But love you man! And love Joe!

american werewolf in london > the howling > dog soldiers > all the others....but the last 30 mins of the howling beat the crap of any other film.

An American Werewolf In London - "a perfectly fine film". Josh, it's a horror masterpiece. Much better than The Howling.

seriously, the howling is NOT as good as an American werewolf, Dee Wallace's transformation at the end is just hilariously bad.

American Werewolf pales compared to The Howling? LMFAO American Werewolf stands hands and shoulders above The Howling as a werewolf movie in my opinion.

0:10 And who else still expected to hear "An American Werewolf in London"? Sorry Joe and Josh but while I like the Howling, it's.... look, I'll just say it. It's too 70s. It's just WAY TOO 70s. Also, it's yet another one of those "Let's name characters after directors" movies which people who should know better seem to think is clever. It's both more subtle and more dubious because of the directors chosen, people who directed past Werewolf movies, regardless of quality.
