My question is: What's there to stop people from suing over any new rules/regulations anyone tries to put in place around NIL and transfers? The whole reason we're in this mess is people sued the NCAA over NIL and transfer portal rules and the courts sided against NCAA. If a new governing body is made to regulate and put rules around NIL and the portal then won't we likely end up right back here once some group sues over any NIL/portal regulation?

I for one, who played football all through school, am NOT pleased with the NIL, and transfer portal. It creates ONLY problems. Should players get money? Sure, they have responsibilities as married, family, etc. There should be a cap on monies given to players. Not a million, or $100,000. Todays rules make us fans disinterested in college football. You loose the fan base, your done as far as revenue. The fans make the money. One more thing, many can’t afford ESPN to watch college football. It’s all a money making grab in my humble opinion. The empanadas should be on the game, not money hungry garbs. If it’s not fixed, many fans will stop watching these games. I for one, am very close to stop watching games. And I dearly love college football. All have a line, when it’s crossed? BYE

Only open the transfer portal during the off-season. Transferring before the season’s even over or transferring 3-4 times is out of control. That goes for coaches too; they can’t leave until their season is over. It’s a distraction and not fair to their team. Teams/players care more about NIL deals than winning games, and very few athletes will actually get NIL deals. Non-football sports play 2-3 games a week and for the teams that have to travel across the country, that’s a lot of time and it’s expensive. Football is one game a week and the regular season is 12 weeks. But there’s basketball, volleyball, baseball/softball, soccer…all those teams have to travel a lot more than football teams and they have to travel across the country now that there’s conference realignment. Regional conferences make sense. Like Chris Petersen said in a podcast recently, there are no guardrails. They’re not all playing by the same rules in different conferences. The NCAA was so unwilling to adapt for so long, they went from one extreme to the other with no limitations or regulations.

NIL and transfer portal are making the games more competitive. It won’t be the same four teams dominating each year. The problem is with players opting out these bowl games m. You have to figure out away to incentives and make these teams and players want to play. When more teams have a chance the games are more exciting.
@dentonyoung4314
@dentonyoung4314 7 месяцев назад
Very simple. When the players are officially declared to be employees (as you know some court will decide they are), then you'll have the same situation as in pro sports leagues like the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. The NCAA will have to collectively bargain with them and a CBA will have to be put in. As part of that CBA, the NCAA can put in that players are not allowed to opt out of bowl games.
@drm9979

why do you believe nil makes it more competitive? it seems to me the rich schools now have an extra edge in getting the best players. that makes it less competitive in my view. transfer portal i agree, a player who is stuck on the bench or in an unhappy situation going to a better opportunity is a competition enhancer.

The writing has been on the wall ever since the O'Bannon decision that college athletes were going to end up being contracted employees. What's so pathetic about this sport is that the "brains" wait until the sport is suffering before doing anything. The courts and Congress have made it clear the old way of doing business is dead. Free transfers are not great for the health of the sport. The ESD has led to coaching carousel chaos and even more unwatchable bowls. Make the kids employees, sign them to contracts, end unilateral transfers, and get this sport back to what made it great: watching which teams can develop young men over the course of 3-4 years into the best players possible.

The 5 P5 Conf Champs get an automatic bid, followed by the 6 highest ranked P5 teams, then have the 2 highest ranked G5 teams play a play in game, that will make for less players opting out of games. The 12-team playoff will make a HUGE difference. In a 12-team playoff, no undefeated conference champ (and their fanbase) gets left out. In a 12-team playoff, NO players from a top-10 team will be sitting out the bowl games. And only a handful of players on non-playoff bowl teams will sit, because those teams won’t have a ton of early round NFL talent, and most of those teams tend to be excited to go to a bowl for the right reasons-reward for a decent season, and the extra practice and experience for a program which hopes to be even better next year.

The day is here that a great kid from a non-contender is going to leave that school mid season to go play for a real contender to win a title. Liberal/woke judges will never prevent that. The elite want to see college athletics destroyed. So, you can hope for a better outcome. But, the future does not look favorable. The kids and their dads (think agent) will be so powerful, should any form of the current system survive, universities will be at the mercy of the athletes. Yes, there is no way that an Oregon team should play an Ole Miss team in Atlanta, GA if Oregon is ranked higher in a playoff scenario. One of the weaknesses of the BCS era was that 80 percent of Bowl games took place in the south, giving those southern teams a little built in homefield advantage, since bowls are played at fixed locations. Under my format, the Big bowls turn into Conference Championship games, and the mid tier (Power 4) bowls maintain their fixed location, and act almost as a mini playoff between conferences prior to the real 1st round of the playoff, the outcomes of those bowl games would impact the inclusion and seeding of teams 5-12 This is the Power 4 bowl format (Week 15), that I would put in place, that would help decide the 5-12 seeds: 1. Fiesta (Big 10 #3 vs SEC #3) 2. Citrus (Big 12 #3 vs ACC #3) 3. Music City (SEC #4 vs ACC #4) 4. Sun (Big 10 #4 vs. Big 12 #4) 5. Alamo (SEC #5 vs Big 12 #5) 6. Holiday (Big 10 #5 vs. ACC #5) 7. Liberty (Big 12 #6 vs ACC #6) 8. Motor City, (Big 10 #7 vs SEC #7) 9. Gator (SEC #8 vs. B10 #8) 10. Las Vegas (Big 10 #9 vs Big 12 #7) 11. Pinstripe (ACC #7 vs. SEC #9) 12. Institute minimum 3-yr player employment contracts (bowl included) with university and player buyout clause. It’s time for universities and players to face ramifications for bowl opt out and transfers. All contracts will be public knowledge as players are university employees. NIL should go back to its original version as frosting on the cake through player jerseys and advertisements.
