by the numbers, his senior year stats and arm talent were as good as any qb he went up against, including Young and Stroud. the early arguments within UGA about whether Stetson was good enough tainted his truly exceptional junior and senior year performances

^ agree with all the replies, he also on multiple occasions didn't play full games. + he had the same ball speed as Will Levis in the combine. Someone who was only highly touted for his sheer athletic ability/arm strength... sooo yeah I guess if you classify throwing a football roughly 61 MPH "lack of arm talent" then sure, he lacks arm talent.

Stetson Bennett IV is everything that's good about the game of college football. A walk on playing at the school he grew up loving. Wins the starting job and takes his team to B2B NTs and he won the MVP in all 4 CFP games he played in. If he doesn't qualify to be in the CFP HOF, I don't know who would.

Josh made all the points necessary as to why he should be in. The Stetson Bennett story is one of the greatest college stories of all time. He literally wasn’t good enough to play D1 football. His Juco numbers were average at best. He finds his way back at Georgia on a practice squad. He starts the season as the 4th string QB and goes on to win back to back titles scoring 80 total TDs in that time. He belongs in the HOF

@@thomasblankinship98 Being a walk on doesn't just give you HOF status??? What is HOF? is it just a cool story trophy? Freak athletes with freak performances would be my take on an elite standing like HOF, not 'just' playing well on an insane roster. He's good, probably even great - not trying to take away from what he did, but putting just good and even great players in a HOF waters down the award too much. Should Mac Jones be HOF because he rode the bench a few years and then did well at Bama? No, because everyone can see he wasn't HOF worthy just because he developed well and played well with his team. The examples of Lawrence and Cam are perfect because they were freak athletes that lit up the CFB spaces every week with their performances - Bennett and Jones did not. They were just there, maintaining status quo for the level of their program. That is why they are not HOF even if rules are changed to let them be. Otherwise even McCarthy is in this conversation and we all think he's "just good".

Love him or hate him what he did was challenging, I hate the off the field issues he’s facing after going pro, but to say that any QB could pull it off is kind of ridiculous, we’ve seen talented QB’s surrounded by talent who couldn’t pull it off

As a UGA fan I grew up watching so many 4 & 5 star QB's come in and fail. And just when we thought we couldn't get any lower, here comes an undersized walk-on that finally brought us not one, but TWO nattys back-to-back, and did it with more swag than anyone. Putting the phone up to his ear against #1 Tennessee, dropping the mic against Ohio State. This dude was playing out of his mind when it MATTERED THE MOST. Put him in the Hall and put the statue outside of Sanford!!

I'd point out that not only did he beat Bama and tOSU, but he did so having to lead a 4th Quarter comeback *both times*. For the 2022 Peach bowl it was 38-24 going into the 4th Quarter and 41-35 with 2:43 remaining. For the 2021 natty it was 18-13 with 10:14 left in the game (after Bennett 'fumbled' to give Bama the ball in position to score the go-ahead TD). In short, these were the highest possible pressure situations any QB can face where the opposing team knows that he has to throw them back into the game -- and the Mailman delivered in the clutch.

I am a die hard Ga fan and I am proud for Stetson growing up in Blackshire a Dawgs fan. Then going to play for the Dawgs and leading them to b2b nattys but as a Ga fan name a time you were confident when we were down that he would get us back up. I was nervous every game both seasons he played. I am thankful he proved me wrong. His story is absolutly amazing but to be in the hall of fame with all of the greatest players of all time I just cant see it. He was great for Ga but he is not a college football great to me.

@@christopheroneil266dude, hes the only player in cfb history to win 4 playoff mvps. he also has the uga passing record for a season. he gave saban his 2nd loss to a sec team with a saban-protege head coach. he is definately hall of fame. hes got all kinds of awards too. if he aint in the hall of fame there definetely shouldnt be any other player in between the years 2021-23 who should become a hall of famer bc he was legitametly the best winner of them all an broke records. kid runs a 4.6 an his playing speed is faster

Stetson had something down deep that could not be seen by mortal eyes. He showed it when he had to and directed the UGA offense to 2 National championships in a row. Just because the spotlights were not on him does not mean anyhing. His winning soul lit up brightly in the many moments that counted and for that he deserves recognition.

blind experiment: Should a player with the following achievements and stats be in the college hall of fame? Heisman finalist 2x national championship (B2B) 4x offensive CFP MVP Highest PFF performance in a national championship game ever (even above burrow) >4000 passing yards his final season where he regularly sat in the 4th and even sometimes 3rd quarter playoff stats combined (MICH, BAMA, OSU, TCU): 1,310yds 14 TDs 78/115 competitions. Burlsworth winner He did all of it.... as the greatest walk-on story this sport has ever seen (sorry Burlsworth). Footnotes: Did all of this without a 1st round receiver (Brock being a TE but yes he did have him). Got to NYC even after sitting in the 4th and even sometimes 3rd quarter quite frequently. For those I've seen who say he lacks arm talent/strength: he tied Will Levis for the fastest-thrown ball in the 2023 combine (60MPH). Mahomes clocks in mid-career at 62. Conclusion: eat dirt and watch soccer if you don't get it.

This is the first time I think I’ve ever been 100% in agreement with you on a topic. You apparently can only be a good qb if your team sucks is the argument against him basically boiled down? If we are talking about what people have around them Georgia has had one 5 star receiver signee that was George Pickens who was hurt until the playoffs and then in the playoffs was on limited snaps. AD,Ladd,Kearis Jackson, Dominick Blaylock, Marcus Rosemy Jacksaint were all 3 stars with the last two both 4 stars having to come off injuries as well. I get it he had Brock Bowers and the receivers I named we developed into really good receivers but damn nobody else is held to the same standard. Nobody would say the teams around Bryce Young and CJ Stroud carried them and they have equal composite talent on their roster. It blows my mind.

To be honest I'm not sure Stetson really cares. He will be remembered as one of if not the best to ever do it at Georgia. Growing up a Georgia fan, he accomplished immortal status within the school, football program, and minds of all Georgia fans. We still talk about Walker, and that was 1 championship and 40 years ago. Stetson will forever be a DAMN GOOD DAWG!

I guarantee you most of those people that said no or just haters. How many quarterbacks won back-to-back national titles in college football history. I bet that is one short ass list. I believe he was MVP and all four playoff games. How many players can say that. And in those two years he might have had one bad game and that was against Alabama in the SEC championship but other than that when it came down to it he put us on his shoulders and came through.

I know he didn't live up to the ridiculous standards that some people have set for QBs today, but in my opinion, he definitely deserves to be in. He put up fantastic numbers, not the 5,000 yds and 40 td seasons that some people seem to expect now, but still great. And had only 3 loses (if I remember right) as a starter while leading Georgia to back to back nattys. If that's not HOF worthy, I don't know what is.

So are we just going to ignore the fact he said Bennet outplayed CJ Stroud and Bryce Young. Stroud had a 94.1 QBR, Bennet had a 75.2 qbr. Young had a 82.3 qbr Bennet had a 71.0. Only beat Bama cause they ran the ball so much.

Haters are treating Bennett like he's Jay Barker, but he's closer to being AJ McCarron. All 3 were along for the ride in their first year as starter, winning NCs all...but Bennett was a proactive reason UGA won another in '22.

if you just watched him play, he was one of the most dynamic players in cfb without doubt. he once ran a 70 yd td against auburn by splitting the safeties in the middle of the field. an then he throws alot like brett favre. he had fastest throw in the draft. if he woulda never got in triuble after graduatin an was startin for rams when stafford was hurt, nobody would be dissin him

I’m a gators fan, always heard about the roster around Tebow lol. I like the underdog story, but how many titles do you think Georgia would have won with Tebow and those same rosters? If we’re being honest? I honestly think if Alabamas best 2 receivers weren’t hurt they would’ve won that title. If the Georgia linebacker gets called for the helmet to helmet targeting, etc. That’s what makes college football beautiful. If you put Stetson on a 4-7 team, I truly don’t feel like that win totals going up. 5 star defense, 5 star O-line, receivers, tight ends, etc.

Stetson should definitely be in the HOF and there’s no doubt in my mind that he is!!!!! Been a Georgia fan for most my life and I waited a long time for a Natty and he delivered 2 in a row!!! Yes they had players on both sides that were NFL talent but they’ve had talent for many many seasons and years and yet won 0!!! He stepped in and dominated in those playoff games and won MVP in all 4 so how is that a knock on him??? It makes no sense why so many hate what he did or downplay what he accomplished! He’s gonna go down as a top 4 in Georgia history so he’s already a Hall of Famer to me!!
