From GENERATIONAL QB to BUST AT 4 SCHOOLS (What Happened to J.T. Daniels?)

Coming out of high school, J.T. Daniels was a five star recruit and a prodigy type player at the QB position. So much so that he was the starter at USC at only 17 years old, but after that, it was tough sledding for JT. He played at 4 different schools, struggled to stay healthy and never lived up to the hype. Today, we are going to be talking about the rise & fall of JT Daniels, his story and what is next for him, enjoy!

Daniels shouldn’t be classified as a bust. He didn’t live up to his promise, sure. But that’s not because he sabotaged himself. He was just hurt and lost momentum. Re-classifying is tough already, but as a quarterback it is intensely difficult due to the demands of the position. The term "bust" is pretty negative, granted he came with tons of expectations but at the end of the day he got to do what millions dreamed of (playing college ball, getting paid, and for some a free education).

@@DogDongDotCom why is it so hard to call people busts? The amount of busts from Cali QBs is astronomical. They play on these super elite teams in high school with all this talent around them, and it makes them look way better than they are. In his freshman year at SC, I remember watching him and Michael Pittman Jr. absolutely torch my cougs. I text a friend of mine that he had some of the most impressive but raw arm talent that I had ever seen. Something seemed to be missing though (toughness, leadership, motivation, I don't know). His body language just never looked like he was confident or in control. Hard to believe 6 years later that his career took the path that it did. Great video.

I think I speak for most other WVU fans when I say we absolutely loved JT. He was a great teammate and was much better than the guy he was replacing in Jarrett Doege. However for a team that was in the middle of a long rebuild after pretty much being all but eliminated from bowl contention it just seemed like right idea to bench him for the younger guy in Garrett Greene. Greene would eventually break out and lead us to a 9-4 season this year after being picked to finish last in the big 12. Overall however, JT was a very good player for us and had some great moments as a mountaineer being a great player and mentor for Garrett. #HailWV

The injuries alone he suffered was crazy, Stetson had the hot hand and Kirby would have won a Natty with JT as well. Can't classify JT as a bust when dude medically retired from the game. I was at the senior bowl, we talked to him and was the only person representing Rice supporting Luke McCaffrey while he was there. Hell of a guy and teammate. Just bad luck. Stetson didn't really struggle except for two games in 2021. Struggled throughout the first half vs. Florida. But right near the end of the half Georgia scored three tds in a matter of minutes and the game was over. He struggled vs. Bama in the SECCG and lost. Most of the fans wanting JT were just questioning whether Stetson could win a title. But he played well that year. If he were struggling the way you claim here, JT would've gotten another look. JT got Wally Pipped and it proved the right move. Also, it was never really clear that season when JT was really ready to play. Lots of rumors that he was cleared but he and his parents didn't think he should play yet, etc.

People need to understand QB rankings are based primarily on your arm and the throws you are able to make. Little to do with the processing/mental part of playing QB. It is simple, the QBs who are able to make NFL throws with proper velocity in high school are the most likely to go to the NFL. Same way 5 star recruits at other positions are based on the fact that the easiest players to project to the NFL already have NFL size and athleticism in HS. Little to do with skill/technique/IQ.

Watched him at USC and then at Rice. When I first saw him at Rice I went, "Hey wait a second, I know this guy." He really was good at Rice. The team was overmatched, but with him they were able to win games. It was kind of like putting a pro player in with a bunch of low-level college guys (and McCaffrey). He was obviously far better than anyone else on the team. Most of the top QB prospects in the draft this year played on teams that were far better than most of their opponents. So sad that he got hurt AGAIN. I don't call guys whose careers were ruined by injuries as busts, just unlucky. Bust is way overused. I've seen people label guys who had excellent careers starting in the NFL for 10 years labeled as busts. Quit doing that.

Men can physically peak early like in high school and are toast in college. Sometimes Little Leaguers do the same. Kids can be great when kids but stink in college. It's not unheard of
