👀 After losing weight for his personal well being and desire for alternative roles in this industry, Josh Peck talks about how he slid down the slippery slope of substance abuse after being opened up to a whole different side of Hollywood that he wasn’t necessarily privy to.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Josh Peck (How I Met Your Father, Drake & Josh) joins us this week to give a glimpse into the amazing, film-worthy stories he has inside his new book “Happy People Are Annoying.” Josh shares everything from the thought of having to grieve what he never had after the loss of his father, to the truth behind the media storm fallout that came from his wedding day and those who didn’t get invited. We also talk about the idea of endless voids that we try to fill with vices, his experience as a child stand up comic, and the difference between public opinion and what goes on behind the scenes within a cast.

It's really disturbing thinking about him losing weight and suddenly being "allowed" into that horrible world. Both sides suck. It's good that he's willing to talk about it.

Hey, if you end up reading this comment I would suggest looking into Islam. It is the way of life that the creator of all things God all mighty ordered us to follow. Ik u might get irritated by the comment and just shun me but I hope u at least start learning about Islam. It is the way of life that frees us from the shackles of society and turns us towards god Allah. In short, the purpose of life is to worship no one other than Allah and to follow his last messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) in doing so, which is the fundamental belief of Islam. U can start learning about it by reading the Quran which is a holy book revealed by Allah (god) to the final prophet. Or, you could learn about it from RU-vid or anything else. By the way, I'm saying this to you because you said that u don't like parties and alcohol and drugs and etc. Islam is completely against these things. It's a pure way of life that will bring you closer to God. Remember everyone is going to die one day including me and u, so it is very important to know for sure with utmost certainty about death and what happens to us. Allah says in the Quran, "Every soul shall taste death" and u never know when u end up dying so I request that you look into Islam. I see that you're honest and sincere as well, so I hope that you learn something about Islam and maybe one day accept it.

It’s crazy as women, isn’t it? How differently people treat you? Strangers are nicer. People do things for you, they just assume you’re a good person when they perceive you as attractive suddenly. I remember the painful realization that I was suddenly getting attention from guys who literally never even saw me before, even though we were in the same classes for years. Men literally don’t see women they aren’t attracted to. They look through you, not at you. It sounds crazy, but it’s absolutely true. And there’s no way you’d ever know it unless you live both sides.

I’m glad Mike isn’t boosting up what Josh did, but it also hurts a little that he is only talking about it all like horrible, gross mistakes and not acknowledging Josh’s wisdom, his self awareness, and the totality of the reasons and feelings behind it all. Josh is clear visioned enough to know it was bad. He also kind of needed the growth. I admire Josh. And not acknowledging his journey and just pointing out that he was wrong or that all of that is stupid or whatever takes away from the beauty of the journey he’s traveled. Just my opinion.

Poor Josh fell victim to the pressure that I've always been trying to stand against. I got shit from friends and classmates in college for not answering texts while driving, not really wanting to drink before I turned 21, and refusing to adhere to these "norms" that other people my age adhere to. Mostly because people think that's how it's supposed to be, and it's not. Expanding your horizons is good, but only because you _want_ to do it and not because you think you _need_ to. Good on Josh for getting out of that hole.

I can relate a lot. I was always a fat girl - my mom would make me sleep at the dinner table if I didn't finish the massive portions she would give me. I developed an eating disorder in middle school, which was anorexia by high school. And I started abusing prescription pills at 14 because I felt so weird and anxious around other people. I always felt ugly. I lost 100lbs in a short amount of time and my life completely changed. People started paying attention to me and asking me out on dates. I was more confident because people finally started complimenting me for the first time in my life. And that lead to partying every day and doing stimulants. I came into a lot of money by the time I was 19 and that was the beginning of the end. It was a sick cycle and I liked how the drugs made me lose weight. I'm 22 now and a (sometimes recovering) fentanyl/cocaine addict. I wish I never touched them to begin with because now I don't know what anything is like without drugs.

The only thing I’ve heard in addiction that makes sense to me and yes it’s gonna make some people angry but sorry in advance. I was told “people who have addictions have exactly that but us who have a heroin problem we are in love on top of that”. That’s why it’s so hard to kick. That Christ I did but it ruled 9 years of my life.

His comment at the end “I’m all those 90s movies”. Is significant. The reason kids do so many things like underage drinking, drugs and wild sex and irresponsible behavior is because of how often in popular tv and movies that’s what is shown to be a normal teen activity. It’s fucked. It should be illegal to show alcohol in any positive light at all on any shows. My brother almost just died from liver failure due to his liver cirrhosis. He looked pregnant with 5 babies. When you drink a lot of alcohol everyday for over 20 years, your liver gets damaged and scarred and stops working. His body would hold onto fluid in his gut and it would build up and up. The only way to get it out was to go to the doctors, have a needle inserted into the side of his stomach and drain the fluid. He got 19 liters of fluid removed in one sitting. All because he was taught through music, movies and social pressure that drinking was cool and what you do as a person if you want to be considered awesome.
@thevast5283
@thevast5283 2 года назад
Damn dude it sucks when you realize how alcohol has destroyed millions of families not just your own. I think the social norm should be getting drunk once a month but people just don't have self control. Weed is such a better alternative to alcohol and hard drugs if you can control it.

Damn sad to say I can relate. Funny enough those type of girls aren't even cool to be around but they do be fine lol
@vampirefox7
@vampirefox7 2 года назад
I didn't think he had a drugs or alcohol problem. I thought it was just a calculated move that he had to get thin for Hollywood. Or maybe he had a crazy stage mom type family that guided him towards that like some child actors. He didn't strike me as a party person but it's cool he is being honest. Glad to see he got clean and didn't turn out to be a creep like Drake Bell.
