His vocals on all 3 songs are beautiful, but set me free is breathtaking. And after reading the GQ interview, it pulls at your heartstrings even more. Proud of him.
Not only my favourite song from the three, but by far the most meaningful. I cried when i first heard it, and reading the gq article made me feel even more
@@sanskrutis5778 I know! I looked into it and was so impressed by the work they were able to produce. They are so talented. Can't wait to see more of Josh's music and hopefully for Sarah to be more involved in Sabrina's projects
incase you didn’t know. this song is more about his past and dealing with being SA for most of his life and how he’s delt with it growing up. he talks more about it, along with his other two songs in his GQ interview, as well as his interview on the zach sang show.
Me here having the worst year in 2021, severe anxiety knocked the door, got rejected from my dream college, realized I hated my career choice, dropped out of college...anyway, loved this song from Joshua, I feel like, in a sense, ending this three song series with Set me free is setting the boundaries for the situation as a whole, like I just said everything I felt like needed to be said and now I'll close this chapter. I hope it works out that way for him, loved you reaction as always!
his songwriting skills are impeccable. his vocal range is gorgeous. his vulnerability is powerful. he is just so honest and as a listener, it makes me feel so connected to his music. it's inspiring.
If you have the time id really really recommend watching his interview with Zach Sang. It's INCREDIBLE. He's so so inspiring and just such a beautiful human being and deserves he world. In the interview he'd opened up about a lot that happened to him in the last year. It's about an hour and half but pls watch it if you have the time. You'll love it!
I love him so much and the thought of him suffering and having to go through everything he went through... He did not deserve any of that. The fact that he's gone through so much shit in his life since he was a child and he still chooses to be a nice person, really says a lot about him. He donates so much money to different charities and causes he cares about, I wish people cared more about him as a person and didn't focus on anything else. In case you haven't, you should totally check his interview with Zach Sang, it's heartbreaking but so worth watching x
I’m actually a silent watcher and I never write comments but tbh Hannah, you’re one of the persons that saved my 2021. Just wanted to let u know this :) you’re not alone
He does something that Lauv does that i love. Every chorus he'll have the upper octave but he also be singing the lower octave. In here he makes the lower octave barely audible but it provides that extra layer and harmony. Its so great
she uploads a reaction to “set me free” on my birthday!! im so excited i LOVE this song 😆 the vocals, the meaning behind it, just everything about it is great!
I’ve heard from heaps of people that the harmonies are all him!!! And also all three videos are each one-shot because they had a really small budget, which makes the beauty and brilliance of them even more outstanding 😭💗
shit. i just read the gq interview he did and I now know why I connected so deeply to this song. I was already relating the song to my own trauma but then to find out that he wrote it about incredibly similar, near identical experiences... Damn. a craftsman and a fighter.
im crying. josh expressed his feelings so well in this song and ive never been through a break up but wow- i like know how it feels. im actually speechless-
I loooove seeing your reactions to videos in general and definitely to Joshua's music! The combination of this video, which is simple but sooo beautiful, his voice which is just IMPRESSIVE, his top notes which are a dream and his lyrics, which are...tbh raw, vulnerable, simple, but emotionally soooo strong - I just feel like he REALLY knows what he's doing and he makes me wanna see him live soooo badly!! 😍😍
yes same i completely connect to this one, and also to finally diving deeper into my mental health in 2021 too. it's been a f*cking year and these HARMONIES WILL RELEASE MY TEARS ABOUT IT it's legitimately my new favorite song and i feel for him so much more somehow
why not? i love both of them so much they are allowed to say how they felt and what they’ve been through, sour is what olivia was feeling at that time and that’s perfectly fine, josh is able to do that too. they both deserve the world
@@kellypineda_ probably because joshua’s songs give some insight into the affect olivia’s songs had on him. not the songs themselves, but how her fans treated him, dragging him through the dirt and sending him death threats, because of the songs. this isn’t saying olivia wasn’t allowed to tell her side of the story, nor that i (or op) dislike her songs, just that it’s hard for some people to listen to them without thinking about joshua and the affect the songs had on him.
@@karlistack743 oh absolutely. as much as i like the rest of the song, that line really rubbed me the wrong way, as someone who has struggled a lot with mental health and needing therapy. at first it was just a really snarky lyric but given what we know now, it’s so disgusting.
@@svftmgc at my first listenings, I thought it was angsty teenager stuff but that line always took me the fuck out bc of how out of context and straightforward it is, and now with context, it is like... well they didn't put that much thought into the lyrics didn't they?? because otherwise its straight-up saltiness and evil, like how on earth did you thought this was a good an idea at all, it is like the blonde thing, that rhymes aren't worth it and you just call out people out of the blue, people that already targeted and probably worried about seems weak or struggling in an industry that feeds of that.
i don’t know why but i teared up at the end - your videos are like a tiny bit of therapy haha. thank u for caring for us hannah, hope you’re taking care of yourself, too
Hannah, I’d love to see you react to more of his songs. He has a song called “Telling Myself” that is great and one that he made with Olivia Rodrigo called “Just for a moment”. I’d also love to see you continue to watch HSMTMTS. The songs get so much better and so does the drama
So one thing he mentioned when he released these songs. All three of these videos were done on the same weekend. All done in one take and he had difficulty getting his record company to cover the costs of the videos. If I am remembering correctly. But yes he is incredible. So are you Hannah
Absolutely no hate to Olivia but I'll forever be on his side in all of this... He suffered so much just because people decided he was to blame for everything...
@@liviegrande460 wait but what about the lines “your not the love that I fell for” and “I hope you know that I still care about you dearly” that doesn’t sound like it’s about SA
fun fact: he said at an interview that something he would never do again is sing in the wrong way bc he didnt know how to breathe and stuff like that and now he would never go back to that! we love the power of a trained vocalist🥺💗
Was gonna say, that the “choir of angels” is actually just Joshua’s voice layered on top of each other a bunch of times. But choir of angels, choir of Joshua’s. It’s basically the same thing…😅🤷🏻♂️🥹
2021 was a terrible year for me. Listening to songs like this, it's just nice to know that I'm not alone in that experience. And ya know the stellar vocals, amazing arrangement, and powerful music video helped a lil too.
PLEASE react to songs from Tick, Tick…BOOM! I’d LOVE to hear what you think of a lot of the songs!! Specifically: Therapy, Sunday, Louder Than Words, Why, and Johnny Can’t Decide
Joshua deserves so much more! This song is so powerful so please everyone stop giving this guy so much hate. No one understands what a person is going through in the inside:(
Love your videos Hannah your the best and you make my day whenever I watch your videos everyone goes through those hard times and I’m just glad your in a good place right now I was recently going through something with my family and I’m started to come to terms with it and watching your videos and other videos on RU-vid always cheer me up so thank you and I love Joshua basset to idk how many times I’ve listened to this song love it and secret and crisis all of his music is awesome 🤩
If you haven’t watched the zack sang show with joshua basset please watch it. it shows how much josh has been through and how amazing of a person he truly is.
2021 really was a fuckimg year for me. It was the year I finally stood up to my family about my sexuality and standing up for myself and stopped going to their anti-lgbtq+ church which led to me being kicked out of home THREE TIMES and I forgave them and went back EACH TKME and I was betrayed by 5 ppl that I went through so much with and hurt by, not to mention that rollercoaster that was my mental health. When I heard that line for the first time I just broke down right then and there bc goddammit it really was a fuckimg year 😭
Loved watching you react to all of Joshua Bassett's new songs. I always enjoy your reactions. They're educational and fun. I'd love it if you could react to Savannah Keyes Worry About. I love her voice and the song is so well constructed. I'd love to hear your take on it.
Okay, I came here to say that you absolutely need to react to Tick Tick…Boom! on Netflix!! It’s based on a true story, about Jonathan Larson, the composer, playwright, lyricist, and singer who wrote Rent. The music in the movie was AMAZING (Andrew Garfield KILLED IT, as did everyone else in the movie). It would absolutely make my year if you would react to it (or even just the songs. I do recommend watching at least the scenes they’re from, more emotion that way). The movie made me laugh, cry, and listen to the soundtrack several dozen times in week. Just….yes. Yes.
Your videos always brighten my day! I live in Utah too! Hopefully you’ll do a meet and greet or something so I can meet you. You are so cool and I always look forward to you posting.
hey hannah!!! just wanted to say this is the first time watching a vid in a little bit, and your new setup looks great!! im so proud to see thos channel grow and to know i was here early!!
you should watch/listen to his interview with zach sang show. it explains some of his songs and he talks about how hard his last year has been and about his childhood. his outlook on life really changed how i view my life and it’s challenges. ITS REALLY GOOD!
I loved all 3 songs. Like Joshua didn't have to go that hard on this ep. But he did, and I appreciate the hell out of it. It really gets me everytime he goes quiet and then the choir roars again.
Hey Hannah, long time fan, love the reactions, you're so down to earth! I have a few suggestions I think you would love starting with a Dear Evan Hanson cover, Waving through a window - Pentatonix and then an amazing Sohyang live performance that never fails to give me goosebumps: Sohyang - Hug Me on the Masked Singer, you might not be able to find it on youtube as other youtubers did have to use an external source but it's definitely worth it!
Because you asked, I wanna tell y'all that 2021 was such a f...... year for me. It has been so much worse than 2020, unbelievably. I hated almost everything, that happened to me, because all of it was hurting me so bad and I barely had time to take a break and breathe. It kind of gives me some strength to hear that I am not alone with it. I wish you all have a chance to do better or even good this year! Stay strong babes
