From headlines that misconstrued the image of a woman, to the foundations of ethical journalism, join us as we bring to you Mr. Zahid Hussain and Mr. Murtaza Solangi to discuss what journalism represents now, and the role it plays In shaping ideological narratives.
About the Speakers:
Zahid Hussain:
Zahid Hussain is an award-winning journalist and author. He has been the Pakistan correspondent for The Times of London, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek magazine and the Associated Press. He was the founding editor of The Newsline magazine, Karachi and is a regular columnist for the DAWN newspaper.Zahid has authored two books: Frontline Pakistan: The struggle with militant Islam and The Scorpion’s tail: The relentless rise of Islamic militants in Pakistan.He has been the Pakistan Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center at Washington D.C. and a Fellow at Wilson College at Cambridge.
Murtaza Solangi
Murtaza Solangi is a prominent journalist of Pakistan and the former Director General of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.He is also the former Vice President and acting President of Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (APBU)
Currently he is the Executive Editor of Nayadur Media, writes news reports and Op Eds for national and international media and regularly appears on national and international radio, TV and online platforms on many issues on national politics, regional conflicts in South Asia and the role of media.
Murtaza Solangi is the recipient of higher Presidential award, Sitar-e-Imtiaz for his services in Public Service Broadcasting and tweets as @murtazasolangi
