Former-EMT Adam (Journalist at Loudlabs News NYC) helps FDNY EMS crew with fire victim after she falls out of stretcher. The patient was able to walk into the ambulance after the fall and didn't appear to be injured.
We have received numerous messages regarding how our video was responsible for getting the crew in "trouble". According to our sources, "[the incident was...] just a reporting process after an unusual event - something out of the ordinary that occurs during the job. It's not a punitive process, it exists as a safety thing - to learn from event & how to prevent it in the future. However, some things are unavoidable, unintentional & unfortunate - for example, loading a patient in austere weather with stretchers not designed to operate in several inches of snow."

No worries, they did not get into any trouble. If anyone says otherwise It is simply not the truth. The members reported the incident immediately as per protocol and that was the end of it. At best, this video will become a training tool

Good on you for blurring their names. That’s such an awful thing to happen on a call and accidents unfortunately do happen. It could be very embarrassing for the crew to have their names on blast associated with such a thing when they’re trying their best. Thanks for helping out. We love seeing you folks on calls. - Brooklyn paramedic

Stryker needs to donate some stretchers to FDNY EMS. Good job dropping the camera and helping out Adam. Mad respect for that bro.

I feel if they used the heavy electric stretcher it may not have happened. Then again, one possible cause of the incident could be from over lifting the stretcher from the side when lifting up the legs.
@StephenNurn
@StephenNurn 3 года назад
@@LoudlabsNYC Alot of times these stretchers malfunction and the latch bar over extends causing 1 wheel to come off the edge which throws the whole balance off plus the person lifting the legs. Recipe for disaster.

I’m more surprised by the fact that a service like FDNY hasn’t already switched to Stryker for their stretchers and are still using those crappy Ferno stretchers in this day and age.
@StephenNurn
@StephenNurn 3 года назад
@@n1b3nn the City is Usually very behind on new technology. Weve had the mechanical yellow stryker stretchers for a while but they wont get rid of things that arent broken. We still have the original orange stairchairs for the 80s. So newer trucks have the stryker stairchairs but without the tracks so its not even worth carrying the extra weight.

Yea!!! Hope the lady is feeling better from her reason to go to the hospital. It reminded me of when my 95 year old grandfather had to go to the hospital. EMS tripped in his yard and they almost dropped him. As he was about to fall off, he hit his eye against the medic's badge and got a cut and a black eye. Older people also bruise easily. When his heart Doctor saw him, he was really questioning my mother and me. I guess he wanted to make sure we hadn't been violent with him, which is actually a good thing to be concerned with for his patients. We would never hurt him. I miss him, he was like a father to me. 💕

Some of you say she reached out. That's not the case. Her hands didn't move untill she started tilting and even then they weren't fully extended enough to throw off the balance. What happened here was when the Emt on the left lifted the stretcher legs and they went to push the stretcher in, the rear wheels probably weren't high enough to clear the lip on the back of the bus. Or the emt at the foot of the stretcher didn't push hard enough (or lift high enough) to clear the lip thats there. Prior to that it looks like the emt lifting the legs lifted a little to hard and the force of the legs in the upright and closed position tilted the stretcher.

Why was she on the stretcher when she could have walked up?? 9 times out of ten she made the ems carry her in that stewpid stair chair too. She know she weigh like 400 lbs. Why do all that and you can walk?? Cause after she fell she walk right into the 🚑 ambulance.

That looks like a crappy scene that none of us EMS-ers who have always worked here in Florida could fully relate to. I have seen similar incidents, though, in my 29+ years on the job even here, and even in the best of conditions. There are a lot of physical and ergonomic dynamics going on in EMS calls; fortunately, an overwhelming majority of them go smoothly.
