JOURNEY- MOTHER , FATHER REACTION 

Hey sweet Jayy- not sure how many Journey songs you’ve done- I looked and didn’t see many, if any- Journey is great PERIOD- However, can we get Lovin, Touchin’, Squeezin’ and “Who’s Cryin Now” ,from this same concert please Jayy- 💜✌️

As a male tenor singer I can attest this is one of the most difficult songs to sing live period. The ease w which he does this is beyond a joke.

For me, this is the greatest male live vocal performance I've seen. There isn't a bad song on the entire "Escape" album.

You’ll never see a finer rock vocal performance than that. It’s in a league of its own. The rest of the band was as good as it gets, and the vocal is so good it still steals the show. The GOAT. The Voice. You’re right, certainly no one ever sang better live.

Steve was really feeling this song; his father left home when he was just a little boy. He never really got over it; one of the main reasons he never got married. A line in the song says: " Lord help this broken home". Check out Steve Perry with Journey singing: "Send Her My Love".

Steve Perry's voice is so strong! My favorite lyric is, "And when lightning strikes the family; have faith, believe." Also to note, this was way before, "Auto-Tune" so that is his real voice! Saw them in concert and I mean to tell you, you get goosebumps and they stay all through the concert!

I just bought their cd "infinity" which is the first album they did with Steve as the lead singer. I absolutely love them. Look up "Who's Crying Now" and "Wheels in the sky" both live.

Journey with Steve Perry is one of the few bands that actually sounds as good as the recordings...sometimes even better. Most of the songs written by the band were a combination of Perry, Schon and Cain. Songs that Perry wrote played to his voice. Many of which are nearly impossible for other singers to do. Steve Perry is easily one of the best, if not the best, male singers in the music industry. Mercury could hit some of the notes Perry did, but could not sustain them. Perry is a music icon.

I saw Steve live with journey and as a solo performer numerous times, they killed it live and Steve admits that the fans and performing brought things out if him vocally he didn't know he had. Journey owed to create records and perform in warehouses rehearsing live for their tours. A band that was amazing on record but phenomenal live

This is one of the great concerts ever. All 5 were at the top of their game and it was magic. The CD and DVD were redone some years ago and Steve Perry was the producer(he is a sound engineer as well as being a drummer and bass player). He said himself how amazed he was by this concert.

I totally agree with you. Journey is always better live. That whole concert in Houston is wonderful. I saw them live in Ca. It’s even better there, though I know it must be hard to comprehend.

I admire Steve because he knew that there is no singer that can maintain a voice like that singing with your heart and hitting notes like that can have longevityand the pace of the shows he was doing damaged his voice Everytime he sang and to acknowledge that makes him sensible and Steve went out on top

One of my favorites songs of Journey. Steve Perry, what a voice. So amazing.

I've seen Journey live 6 times. I had front row center seats for this tour. Saw them in arenas and stadiums. I was always amazed how much better they sounded live. Also saw Steve Perry 3 times on his solo tour. His voice is mind blowing hearing him live.

Steve Perry has the voice of an angel, and I remember when my father showed me this song I’ll never forget it. I’ll never forget how much this song hit me hard because of how relatable it was I mean I basically had the same stuff happened to me when my parents were married things didn’t work out between them they got divorced and for a while I blamed myself. And I used to question like what happened what did I do what went wrong, I mean I went through so many changes in my life and it took me a while to realize that when things change things will never go back to the way they used to be and that’s the part that hurts it’s like being attached to an object but for whatever reason you have to let it go. But yeah great song with very powerful and meaningful lyrics I mean the moral of the story is that’s the thing about family life there’s always going to be ups and downs and family is truly the only thing you will have and how important it is to cherish family no matter what and never take it for granted because one day it could all be gone and you’ll have nothing left and nothing to live for and you will spend the rest of your life isolated and lonely.

Yeah, they didn't nickname him "The Voice" for nothing'! I'm so blessed to see Journey several times when they were in their prime. I'd like to say they were the best I've ever seen (and they were always great) but the truth is that there were so many fabulous bands during this era that we took them all for granted. We saw shows of this caliber nearly every weekend. What a great time to grow up in!

Your face was priceless! You really connected to him. I feel so many emotions from him and just melt with his amazing vocals. And sexy....I have been in love with him and his voice for 42 years. I have never heard a better singer and all who know me, know how much I love Steve Perry's Journey. That's what I call them. Journey without Steve is not Journey to me.

I was blessed to see this show live and I still feel that once in a lifetime feeling! I had to leave my broken home at 15 and this song hits deep. I’ve seen dozens of concerts and the only one as good as this was their Frontiers tour - incredible live sound! They pioneered the live music production company for big stadiums. Thank you for this

Steve sounds just as good, if not better Live as he does in a studio. All well before auto tune. He is just that talented. Incredible range, always crisp and clear. This song really showcases his range.

No you are completely correct, Journey always sounds best live! I'm not sure why their recordings don't quite capture how good they sound. Not just Steve's voice but Neil's guitar is better too. He sounds amazing live I AGREE 100%....absolutely love him...he has the one of the best voices ever...he made that band, and I love the band still BUT would prefer Steve to still be with them!!

What I've come to understand about what lead up to Journey as a whole being able to even give a performance of a Song that they wrote of this caliber (including so many more) to the world in a package like they did was that Neal Schon and Johnathan Cain and Steve Perry finally got together with each other and wrote what and how they thought was music truly from the heart. The fact that Cain is a Christian and often wrote from that perspective (With huge majesty and grace etc) pushed them to further "Get Real" with their lyrics and deeper with their emotions and to try and be basically he very best they could under God for mankind. This is often why you hear about "Believing and Faith" so much in their writing. Cain was the glue Schon was the meat and potatoes and Steve was the one to take it higher than even great lyrics and writing could go. They soared to heights they couldn't have imagined for years. But eventually they just burnt out. They all did for a while but then after a big break come back together. But Steve couldn't due to health and home troubles.

No auto tune. No computer enhancements, just 5 musicians performing live. This was aired on MTV on its launch weekend live memorial day 1981. Mtvs first live concert. There's a reason why perry is referred to by most musicians regardless of the genre, as The Voice.

Amazing song. One of the best live performances I have ever seen. I have that entire concert on DVD. I too am from a broken home as Steve Perry is as well. I saw Journey live In Oakland in 1979 when I was 14. We were in shock half of the concert. His amazing voice was much better live. Shocking.

Steve’s father abandoned him and his Mother. His Mother packed up Steve and as a strong, courageous women in that time period, they moved to California. Steve’s Mother was his whole world.

I’ve seen Journey live 4 times and I have always said Steve sounds better live!

Journey is fantastic in a lot of ways. No one seems to mention the fact that many of the songs were written/performed by Steve himself. Almost all are deeply personal and can be related by most of society! Some of those songs touch on emotional, family, personal issues. Who writes material like that anymore? This is generational music for now and the future. I think it took a lot of guts to sing, Mother/father to a large audience. After all, it's hardly a song for a rock audience! As Neal Schon said, Steve Perry was a once in a lifetime singer.

This song never ceases to bring me to tears, especially after losing my wife Barbara last month. A quote from Lilo and Stitch: Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. I will always miss her.

Go back and watch the videos from the 70's, and after Journey he had a solo career, and he is still going he put a new album out in 2019 . He is a very nice guy I met him a few times. XOXO

There are legendary front men… Jagger, Tyler, Vedder… but very view had the vocal range of Steve Perry.. maybe Freddy Mercury..but they stand miles above the others in vocal range and pure singing ability.
