Steve perry isn't just singing he puts his everything in it heart and soul.....one of America's greatest bands EVER..people will be listening to this many years from know and say....damn them boys were really great.....music that touches the soul....
They don't call him "The Voice" for nothing...Steve Perry's voice is so full of emotion. Haven't heard this one in a long time. Good stuff. One to listen to from his solo career is Foolish Heart.

Yes! I much prefer reaction videos in large screen. He allowed his viewers to not only get to hear the voice, the music, but to see Steve's beautiful long hair sway behind his back, see Neal's magic fingers in his solo, the violins / strings & orchestra as well. That's what we really want to see, and it motivates me to subscribe, with thumbs up, and hitting that 🔔!
It seems you played “When You Love a Woman” 2yrs. back,however it’s a timeless piece of music and am so happy I was able to hear it again. You can’t go wrong with Steve Perry. This video is so bittersweet. Perry was in crippling pain, facing double hip replacement surgery soon. He was completely burned out from being part of the hardest working band. This song finally earned them their first Grammy; this album was the last to feature Perry as their frontman. In 2020, Perry finally sang again for the first time.
Jon said they had to carry him off the stage and pack him in ice between takes. It wasn't just an injury, it was devastating chronic bone disease that caused his hip joints to crumble like they were made of chalk. This was his last video with them. He doesn't tour but he showed up at three different eels concerts when he was in his mid 60's while they were on tour. They are friends of his. The best one was in LA, but he slid some ad-libbed lines from Sam Cooke songs in the show filmed at the Ford Theater in DC that was great. If he just drops in there's no pressure. The fans get a big surprise, and there always seems to be videos that pop up later. The big surprise was hearing him cover an eels song with an unprintable name.
I don't know if you will read this so far out; however, Steve Perry is classified a tenor altino. Very rare, and typically in opera. And this is with NO training at all. Just pure talent and a gift seldom given. I am very happy you appreciate it as much as I do.
I had read about this description of Steve's voice - what a gift he was given! He had been first tenor in a choir during his youth and said the experience had helped develop his voice. This is my very favourite ballad from Journey, followed by "Open Arms". "Foolish Heart" is another beautiful song which was recorded on his solo album Street Talk.
He was considered to be a tenor altino, a rare form of countertenor. You should go hear songs like Wheel in the Sky and some of the other earlier songs with Journey. In the live video Schon is burning up the guitar and Perry steps up beside and you can see that the high paralleling sound is actually Steve. His pitch, range, tone, and breath control were insane.
Still They Ride is an amazing Journey song!!! My favorite!! Steve Perry is the ultimate performer! No auto tone or tune. Just pure God gives talent. He is the VOICE and Goat of singers. An ICON and National Treasure!!!!!

Steve just started singing again because he was asked to make a promise to a girlfriend of his who passed away from cancer. You have to listen to one of his latest track called "You belong to me" it's bone chilling because you can feel the pain he has in his heart best song ever in my opinion!!

'Faithfully' is the most perfect ballad ever written. 'Lovin Touchin Squeezin' is fierce. 'Any Way You Want It' will make you rock out. Basically they've got whatever you want.
Those images of him dancing were "movie magic" outtakes from his Strange Medicine videos. The videos of him in that huge red turtleneck sweater were of him in severe pain, he could barely stand. In fact, an outtake of him in the sweater has turned up showing him falling. The sweater was probably covering up a brace or something. The Grammy's are very political, they asked for him to sing the song live on the show, management said that wasn't going to happen, but did not give them a good reason. They were trying to cover up how bad off he was. So no Grammy.
My favorite journey song is "Lights". Perry shares of vocals with the original singer of Journey... makes for great harmonies which you usually don't get when Steve Perry is singing lead.
This was Steve’s last album with Journey and he stepped away from performing for the next 20 years. In 2018 he released “Traces” his first solo album in almost 30 years and it is amazing. So is his Christmas album. I encourage you to check out “No Erasin’” and “We’re Still Here” (Traces album) and see that even at 70 years old Steve is still an amazing songwriter and vocalist.

I've heard your reactions many times, repeatedly because I just love your commentary in this reaction especially of When You Love a Woman. You truely capture Steve's beautiful vocal range, and Neal's electrifying guitar, and you recognize what an amazing drummer Steve Smith is...Jonathan and Ross as well. I wish the whole world could listen and hear them as you do, how phenomenal this band was in this era. I'm so grateful that we can listen throughout the history of Journey, but for me it will always only be Journey with Steve Perry❤️💞🎶🎤🎧🤩
i'm hearing some blues and r&b qualities to his voice. i was in 7th grade (1976/77),when i first heard journey. they had a different lead singer and they had more of a jazz/rock sound. i loved it. they were good. i just didn't know how well they would do with that sound. when they decided to go a different direction with steve perry, i was not to thrilled at first. it wasn't to long after that i warmed up to steve perry. by the time, i hit high school, he became my favorite male singer of all time. steve perry made journey into a mega band (what used to be calle a stadium band). he still is my favorite male singer, with dennis deyoung (from styx) and lou gramm (from foreigner) following pretty close behind. whoever sang for the group "boston" was also up there with my all time favorites. steve perry has a couple of solo albums with some great songs.
The Voice , but Neal on guitar, Jon on piano, Steve on drums Ross on bass, and Steve front and center, just a stunning piece of music collectively. Can hear every instrument.
I would suggest listening to all of Infinity, and Escape, at least. Steve's voice is phenomenal, you should look into their story, He almost never became a singer, and was about to give up.

I live near three beaches, one about 5 minutes away, another about 15 and an island that's a half hour ferry ride. I have listened to this music by the beach most of my life.
Chad please listen to "When I Think of you". Steve wrote this for his mother after she passed away, inspired by a dream he'd had of her. It's so beautiful, a lovely tribute from a son who loved his mother so much. You can feel the emotion. Mary Quaresma Perry Rottman managed his band in high school, and would drive them to gigs. She was his biggest supporter and urged him not to quit when he got discouraged, as breaking into the music business was really tough...then Herbie Herbert, the manager for Journey heard Steve's demo tape and the rest as they is history. If not for Mary Quaresma Perry Rottman the world would not have been blessed with "The Voice" P.S. try to find the video with pictures of her and Steve when he was a child, it's a beautiful tribute. And you need to appreciate how late they were in their career as a band when this was done. This came out in 1996, the band was very much middle-aged, but they sound very contemporary, masculine, passionate. There's nothing superficial or nostalgic about it. Very similar to Clapton's unplugged version of Layla or the contemporary "Change the World," or Aerosmith's turn in the 1990s as one of the hottest acts, or Michael Bolton's peak in 1997 with his contribution to the movie Hercules. It really shows the talent and longevity of these particular artists.
Hello, fellow band geek (and former drummer) here! I was in the percussion section of the marching band all 4 years of high and I was the section leader my senior year when we had 21 people just in the percussion section and about 140 total band members. I also started to take drum lessons at 6 y/o and started piano lessons a couple years after (about 8 years total on both drums and keyboards). I primarily played drums for many years, but eventually I played drums less and less and I've been a keyboardist exclusively for decades (but I can still sit down and bang out a couple tunes on drums if I had to). I've loved this song from the first time I heard it. This was their first album in several years with Steve Perry on vocals and I really wish they could have worked out their personal issues so he could have continued as lead singer, but it wasn't meant to be.

Steve Perry has been classified as a Counter- Tenor Altino, can you explain this? What I've read is counter tenor Altino's are very rare. It made sense when you said Steve's in a tenor range, but then it's not because of the higher tones. Which explains why his voice is like no other, it's unmistakable, iconic... you know when it's Steve singing. Though others try, still there is but one, and only one Steve Perry The Voice.
