Steve Perry was intriguing to people because of how he could use his voice to pull emotions through the music. There are lyrics, and there is a deep layer of depth to the lyrics because he can make you feel the emotion that come from the words. I think Steve Perry was what made this band famous and alluring.

You need to listen to 'Still They Ride' 'Mother Father' 'Stone In Love ' Steve Perry is the GOAT VOICE of all time. He will never be duplicated because God broke the mold after perfection was created. His ability to reach the high notes and hold them forever is crazy good. Steve joined the band in 1978 when I was 12 years old. They have been my favorite band since then. Seeing them in concert was an experience. They pioneered the light show and screens in concerts. Journey is one of those bands that you can recognize the song within the first few notes.

Fun fact - Neal Schon (guitarist of Journey) played with Santana when he was a teenager.
@joepegel
@joepegel 5 лет назад
Neal Schon and keyboardist Greg Rolle were in Santana together. Played at Woodstock with Santana, so that's legit af. Rolle sang lead on "Black Magic Woman", huge hit for Santana. They left Santana to start Journey. Rolle sang lead for their first three albums before Steve Perry joined. He retired after three more albums and was replaced by Jonathan Cain, who wrote or cowrote some of Journey's biggest hits.

Infinity was the first album with Steve Perry. He's the main vocalist on the album.. Greg Rolie takes over some of the vocals on Feeling That Way/Anytime....Neal Schon and Greg Rolie were members of Santana at one time...Ainsley Dunbar is on drums here. He left not long after this to join The Jefferson Starship. This was probably Journey's best album... Not one bad tune on the album..The band's sound changed when Greg Rolie left. The band became more pop with the addition of Jonathan Cain, who replaced Greg Rolie.

*You should check out his guitar player at the time Lincoln Brewster.* He became one of the best artist in Christian music in my musically qualified opinion. Hands down he is one of the most amazing guitarist out there today. Never a dull moment in his songs that are very, very well done and not the usual fair of what you might think church music sounds like. Just when you think every technique has been done he will take you to another level. I'm not overstating his talent in any way. It proves that God is in charge of the best of the best. With Lincoln Brewster, Christian music is no longer sounding like tame child's play and no beat to it. The full sound and message whether it be reflective or turned up full on concert volume for Jesus it's always spot on. Look him up for your own taste of a great guitarist and music that is powerful and focused on God. You will not be disappointed....... even if you don't believe....... yet. ":^)

Yea, same singer, there was a definite change in the timber of his voice as he got older. Still that high tenor voice, but as he got older it was a little smokier, with just the slightest bit of rasp creeping in there Journey was a pretty versatile band, they became known for their ballads because they were great, but it unfortunately overshadowed there ability to rock, so if you really want to know what the band is about you got to go for the deep cuts. Mother Father, Winds of March, Stone in Love, etc

Boston and now Journey. Now you're in my wheelhouse. Pun intended. Great job guys. Brad Delp and Steve Perry. 2 of the best voices ever in rock. and yes this is Steve Perry. Journey started out as strictly an instrumental band. The record company basically forced them to add a vocalist because of poor record sales. The rest is history.
@rcwhiteh
@rcwhiteh 5 лет назад
No; Gregg Rolie sang lead before Perry signed on. Rolie and Schon both played for Santana before Journey.
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 5 лет назад
Delp was a ridiculously good singer with a very tragic existence and end to it. When you realize that it took Boston almost a decade to do their first album and that those songs were actually conceived in the 1960's, it is pretty nuts.

Wow. At least know wtf you're talking about before posting for the whole world to see. Gregg Rolie sang on the first 3 Journey albums. Arguably some the greatest progressive rock ever put on vinyl, imo. Criminally underrated. Just give Look into the Future a listen.
