I shivered when listening to this! How does she ever succeed in always creating so much emotion within the listeners? Only God knows! I love this woman's singing
* * * Hail Mary, holy Mother, Guide the feet of this wretched one who implores thee Along the path of bitter grief And fill the heart with faith and hope. O merciful Mother, thou who suffered so greatly, See, ah! see my anguish. Ah! Do not abandon me To the cruel torment of endless weeping. Hail, Mary! Oppressed by grief, Do not leave me, O Mother, have mercy! O Mother, have mercy! Oppressed by grief, Do not leave me, do not leave me.
No matter how wretched we are our Heavenly Mother most pure blessed Mary will not abandon us. Our greatest advocate that pleads our case to God. This performance reminds us of that beautifully. God bless this wonderful singer.
I love her singing in slower, cantabile music such as this. In fast music, I don't care for as gargled, aspirated coloratura singing. Here she is exquisite.
This is such a classic piece that I think any singer would hesitate to put it out there, so to speak. That said, you knocked it out of the park here...certainly for these old ears and eyes. The beauty of a classic is that with each new presentation, it lives again and is as fresh as it ever was. Thank you, Joyce.
Except it is NOT a classic. It's rarely done. It's an instrument intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana that someone arranged for voice. And this arrangement is not even the good one.
@@djmotise NOT A CLASSIC? THEN IS IT LIGHT MUSIC? EVERYTHING THAT ENHANCES THE FINE HEARING AND KNOWLEDGE OF EXCEPTIONAL MELODIES IS CLASSIC. I AM ITALIAN AND I KNOW SUCH MELODIES AS A CHILD AND TODAY I AM 83 YEARS OLD.
Nog zo'n onvergetelijk moment. Een dikke keel heb ik van ingehouden emotie.Kan geen woorden vinden om mijn genot uit te drukken. nog meer van zulke muziek, please!!!
I agree with Vesko Varbanov's fine comment, to which I'll only add that the piece itself is one of best in the opera-literature because it mixes all the human natural conflicts and passions (heard in this opera main themes) with the purity of the religious prayer. Thanks for this most beautiful upload.
It is simply the most graceful and touching prayer song ever written. I'm eternally thankful to have found this arrangement which honours Maestro Pietro Mascagni's oeuvre so beautifully - God bless you for the upload ! Joyce DiDonato's performance is the perfect symbiosis between technical perfection and an unswerving feeling for a melody's innermost mystery and expresses all intended qualities of the piece: passion, despair, hope, faith, tenderness, grace, magnificence.
Ave Maria, cheia de graça! Socorrei-nos neste mundo apóstata e que odeia a Santa Igreja Católica e Romana. Concedei-nos a fortaleza dos mártires. Viva Cristo Rei!
Cannot be better in terms of treatment of this classic religious song. Many singers sing this too operatically and come across as not sincere at all. Joyce is such a great artist and sings everything with complete understanding, respect and perfect feeling.
