I'd say 97% correct. He is upset that a player talked the ump into a call. And then wants the ump to let him talk his way into a challenge. He is right it was bs in the first place, and right to complain, but he essentially wants the ref to do the same wrong thing again.

He's right. Realmuto manipulated the situation knowing that if he got it past the ump, it couldn't be challenged. If you let players get away with that kind of thing, it'll just happen more. The ump was not going to award first base if the batter didn't say anything. Even if I'm as generous to the ump as possible and say that the replay was inconclusive, he absolutely changed his call on the batter selling it and that's not supposed to happen. Also, if the batter can outright get the call, why can't Bud's request for an umpire conference be honored?
@lscales6131
@lscales6131 Год назад
@@kenconnelly773 because it’s up to the ump and he used his challenge already. The umps don’t have to do anything if they don’t want to at that point. Now a good ump would let have changed his call but called a conference right away so no one can say they were influenced by anyone else, but as soon as he made the call he painted himself into a corner, and there was no way for him to ask for a review with out a protest from the Phillies.

I was at the game. Was sitting in the nose bleeds. Everyone I was with thought Realmuto clearly got hit by the ball and were laughing at Bud Black for arguing about nothing. Looking at it now, I might’ve been blinded by the beers we drank in the parking lot

Playground rules would be an improvement over these union hacks. I am a teamster and it takes a lot to fire one of us but repeated poor job performance and dereliction are grounds for termination. Just sayin...Rob and the goon squad. Faster play and horrible umping don't jibe.

Yeah I mean if he's going to let the batter decide what the outcome of the pitch was, he should let the manager decide when he asks for a replay XD

I think it’s exceptionally rare that a player lies about being hit. It’s an almost ingrained thing. You get hit you start towards first, which he did immediately. You don’t get hit it doesn’t even occur to you to. I’m not saying that Bud didn’t have good logic there, but I would bet good odds that that ball grazed his arm.

Just because it’s rare doesn’t make it more likely that he’s telling the truth lol there are plenty of examples in all sports where a player is adamant about something happening and it turns out they are wrong. So how do you solve this predicament, oh idk, maybe look at it lmao
@spokris

I get what you're saying. But athletes have been known to bend the rules since the beginning of sports. How many times do batters lean in and say they didn't move? Too many. I can't remember who they were playing, but in STL a few weeks back a batter said he was hit. Watch the replay and the ball MAYBE hit the lace on his shin guard that was 3" long. If umps start listening to players for this, you have to listen when they say they beat out a ball, made a catch instead of trapped it, etc. Players are always gaming the system.
@yoyoninjaboy6431

just watch his expression change as he supposedly gets hit. I'm pretty sure he got hit too.

For this, JT had an immediate reaction. Unless he planned this beforehand and knew the pitch would be close, I think the pitch must’ve grazed him

The main problem is the ump refused to call for a replay when it was obvious he missed it. It probably did skim his arm a little.
@cidien
@cidien Год назад
Nah, when a ball is that close you feel it whether if hits you or not, and you're going to react to it. While there is SOME dispute, it looks pretty clear that it didn't hit him to me. If it's so close nobody can even tell, man up and get back in the batters box.

Random Question: Has there ever been a situation where a player was on the field and felt such immense diarrhea to the point where he asked to get ejected? Is there a Paul Pierce of Baseball?
