These are some of the most beautiful bells I have ever heard. The tuning is just so magnificent that it’s literally the best noise anybody would want to hear. NYC Riverside has some of the best bells ever.
i don´t think the 8 tons bell is the second biggest. Behind the Bourdon it is a bell that looks almost as big as the Bourdon. And above they passed another really big bell
sadly, the bell chamber had to be closed to visitors after the renovation of the carillon. the recast bells were rearranged in a fashion that made it less safe to walk around. the upside: they sound stronger and more balanced in tone than ever. the trebles used to get lost in the city's street noise...no longer.
These are the bells heard in the 1958 Mercury Living Presence recording of the 1812 overture with Antal Dorati and the (then) Minneapolis Symphony. Then they headed about 45 miles up the Hudson River to record the black powder cannon shots at West Point. The recording is elsewhere here on RU-vid. (Be sure to catch their "documentary" track that recounts what they went through to make the recordings.)
Wonderfull 5 bells with magnetic clappers. That's why the 19 ton bell was ringing out even when he was already done with swinging. Same clapper is by Great Paul ( 16 Tons)
@@JesusTilapia no magnet? Then I don't understand why it rings so long out. Other bells with counterbalance like: World Peace bell or La Savoyarde Paris doesn't ring out so long. La Savoyarde is also the only bell what doesn't need to swing that much. Cause the clapper did the most
@@MikeRo19 It was ringing because the clappers counterbalance on clapper keeps moving for a while even if the Bell has stopped. The counterbalance is also there too increase the impact so when clappers hits the Bell The Bell is louder and Audible outside.
@@JesusTilapia It's a heavy clapper too, in relation to the weight of the Bourdon: 2 tons (1.8 tonnes) for a 20.5 ton (18.6 tonne) bell. Typically clappers are about 4% of a bell's weight. This one's almost 10%.
Arturze bardzo Ci gratuluję ponad 1000 subskrybcji, oby tak dalej. Te dzwony są niesamowite, przydałby się taki zestaw w Polsce np. w Świątyni Opatrzności w Warszawie!
Those 5 Big Bells sound really nice, when they ring, but however, the Notes sound more like this than what says in the Video: ⬇️ German: c’ b° g° fis° cis° Italian: Do3 Sib2 Sol2 Fa#2 Do#2
I mean, those are the correct Bell Notes for those 5 Swinging Bells, but just when I hear them ringing, c’, g°, & f° sound fine, even if f° would sound a little like fis°/ges°, but a° sounds more like ais°/b°, while c° sounds more like cis°/des°. 🤔
@@videolover2014 its all in the overtones. that can give the impression of a different tuning than one expects. of course, these bells' overtones were tuned along with the strike tones.
By the way, check out the bells at the university of Chicago’s Rockefeller chapel. They have 72 bells and five of the largest swing like riverside’s. Their largest is an 18 ton bourdon sounding a C# :p
True story...The bourdon bell was installed in a ceremony in 1930. A newsreel crew had placed mics and cables in the bell tower, to record the first ringing of the bell. Little did they know that officials from the electricians' union had been alerted. They held up the ceremony until all sound equipment was removed from the tower.
If the bigger bells are too heavy for us to ring them then let the mechanical machines do that for us because I know how they feel they feel like they weigh more than a ton. ⚙🔔⚙
@@kyletheringer Well then, you can take that as a challenge good luck, do the best you can to ring them and don't put too much stress in you because you'll tired yourself out. 😫🥵
I went in to check out the bell chamber during an open tower event at Christ Church Cranbrook in Michigan. It's not a huge carillon but IT IS _LOUD._ I had no ear protection with me and had to back out of there immediately.
@@adamm2693 I have been in the chamber at Riverside when the bourdon struck the hour. No swing, no clapper, just the hammer. It was an amazingly _gentle_ sound. Not loud, but _full._ Like standing on the shoulder of God and hearing Him speak.

Dove sono queste campane? Addirittura un La1 da 32500 kg e un Fa1 da 58650 kg? Beh non ci starebbe male un Bel C00, da 150000 kg ovvero un Bel Do1 da 150000 kg
Nobody knows the name of the large bourdon, but i call it 'Laura Bellman Rockefeller' bc the bells were donated by john d. rockefeller in memory of his mother, Laura. Edit: Donated by John d. Rockefeller Jr
It doesn’t have a name, it’s just the bourdon...the lowest note. But the bourdon of J D Rockefeller’s other carillon at U of Chicago is sometimes called “Big Laura”, after JD’s mum...
@@kevinsims2254 The Riverside Church also plays the parsifal motif every quarter hour, The tune originally came from Richard Wagner's Parsifal: Verwandlungsmusik, While Rockefeller Chapel now plays The Cambridge/Westminster Quarters.
i am so scared of heigh jsut watching it gets me nervous lol i like hearing it on youtube but i would neverrrrr go in the church bell location id be on the ground near the church o nthe street not in the tower
