Do you realy prefer that Judas (Carl Andersson) in the movie hanging himself into a tree than this here is a huge twist yes I love Carl Andersson to but he had a reasson to do that he had Sirius Canser this Guy dosent hang himself if you realy prefer that you are more nuts than I thougt
Okay, but the fury in that initial "MY GOD" was amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a Judas portray it in that way of just pure rage at the realization that he was manipulated into participating in the murder of his friend. Most others tend to sing that line as half broken or grieving, as if they're turning to Caiphus for some type of sympathy. Drew plays such an intense Judas that I really would have loved to see him in a production that puts a more modern spin on the setting (think 2014 Swedish Arena Tour).
This is the only performance I've seen that REALLY drives home why he commits suicide. At first the anger at Caiphus, the realization that he was manipulated by him, the guilt. And then the realization that Jesus knew all along, that he let this happen, let him be damned. The anger and guilt refueled. Betrayed from both sides and nobody else to turn to in his despair. An absolutely BRILLIANT performance.
Wow.... Judas, Jesus, Enjolras, Grantaire, Javert, Valjean.... Someone get this guy a part where he survives for once. Seriously can you name a part that this guy has played where he actually lasts for the entire thing?? I can't!!! BTW, totally agree that this guy!!! He makes an absolutly fabulous Judas!! :)
Wow. That's... one hell of an interpretation. Drew is incredible, but the concept of Annas goading him into taking his life, and providing the gun... amazing and different. I'm amazed I never found this before.
Just wanted to reply cause it’s a weird crossover with JCS and a Marvel pfp, but it’s cool to see. Also I agree, the sudden gunshot makes this more disturbing, though I’m not sure which one I liked better. Also shoutout to that crazy note at 3:35
@@Phasmania Haha, thanks. I think I prefer the hanging because it has such a more... torturous aspect to it. And yeah I guess so... though I feel like the majority of my Marvel-enjoying (and especially Bucky-loving) friends are also musical theatre fans, too. I see a certain amount of similarity between Bucky/Winter's characterisation and that of Judas too, in some ways (as different as they are on the surface). They both end up being the ones dragged in to do everyone else's dirty work, being used as a puppet by the PTB (whether that's Hydra and SHIELD, or God and the High Priests), both ending up as a sidekick to a "saintly" person that everyone thinks is either amazing, or a huge danger to society, when in reality they're just a man with ideas above their station, as it were... and both end up feeling their guilt so profoundly for letting this person they love with every fibre of their being down that they think they don't deserve to live... I may or may not have a thing for tortured souls, especially if they have morally grey areas... though personally, I think Bucky was completely free of any responsibility for what he was made to do as Winter, because he was literally tortured and brainwashed and had his whole existence "wiped" (with what is basically hyper souped up ECT without the anaesthesia and paralysis to prevent the agonising pain and seizures) every few days when he "malfunctioned" (aka his own moral code began to break through the horrific procedures, no matter what they did).
i am obsessed with this scene - i think it's one of the greatest moments in any musical. and i have to say this is the best i've seen and heard it done! his voice is so compelling and fragile, and powerful. i think the gun brings a bit more rage and violence to his decision, and i like that.
Well he survived as Armand in Lestat the musical and as von Krolock in Tanz der Vampire. They were both vampires though :) In addition to your list he was also killed in Rudolf and in Dracula :)
Wow, this was fantastic! Amazing singing and acting! I have to say Zubin Varla is still my favorite Judas, but Drew and Carl might have to arm-wrestle for second place. Very intense ending, I was not expecting that!
Jeez, did you all catch that note?!!! Can you imagine doing this twice a day, 6 days a week? I totally love this Judas. Drew Sarich rox my world. I could listen to this everyday for the rest of my life.
I really think this is his best song. This song is a perfect vehicle to display his amazing range and how beautifully his voice can turn from angry to tormented to regretful to sad and back to angry. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Wow.
This production is EXTREMELY good, among all other I have watched. With all the singers (especially Judas, and excluding Jesus) and the orchestra, and the scene, and etc. 5 stars and above.
Honestly until this I didn't think I liked Drew Sarich much. After seeing him in a role that he's suited to (instead of his terrible Javert)? I can definitely see his appeal. This song has so much dynamic singing. Excellent Judas.
Javert wasn’t his role, though I think he did a decent job all things considered. When he’s in a role that suits him, Drew absolutely slays it. He’s absolutely amazing, especially in all the German language musicals he’s been in.
That's the popular take on his death, but don't forget that JCS is suposed to be set in "modern" times. And also, the producers (or the directors, I'm not sure how theatre works exactly) have artistic license.
It's not set in modern times! In "superstar" Judas literally sings:" if you would have come today you could have reached a whole nation...Isreal in 4 BC had no mass communication"...
It's Eric Minsk. He does a lot of character parts in German musicals. Right now he's Iago in Disney's Aladdin. He originated that part in the German version.
just sayin i know this was talked about a couple years ago, but I'm pretty sure they had him use a gun instead of noose because a couple actors have lost their lives from hanging themselves on stage.
Question/Poll: Drew is amazing as Jesus and Judas, but is there one performance you prefer over the other? I think, ultimately, I prefer him as Judas. Drew has this innate darkness. Vocally he's untouchable as Jesus, but his Judas just hits me the right way.
I love him both as Jesus and Judas, he puts so much into both of these roles and he gives it his all and he pours his heart and soul into the characters that he plays. But I have to say that I like him as Judas more. He portrays him so differently then how most people portray Judas, in this song when he sings “My god I saw him” he has this fire, this rage, this fury while most Judas’s sing it as sad or as grieving but Drew he sings it with anger, he was manipulated to betraying his best friend. He sings that section with such a rage and when he sings “I don’t know how to love him” there’s this kind of confusion and deep sadness when he sings “He’s a man, he’s just a man, he is not a king, he’s just the same as anyone I know, he scares me so” Not to mention his voice is just 😍, it’s just amazing. Also I love how he sings “my mind is in darkness now, my god, I’m sick, I’ve been used” I feel like that section of the song is really hard for people that play Judas to sing (and I mean yeah it is) but Drew sings that with such a kind of eerie kind of sound and then when he sings “ why you chose me for your crime, for your crime, for your crime” he has this gravel in his voice that just makes me melt. Also when he sings “for I have been saddled with the murder of you” he sings so quietly and kind of fast almost like he realizes what he has done and what’s going to happen. I could honestly do a full essay on why Drew is so good as Judas but I won’t 😂 Well long story short Drew is such a phenomenal actor and I love him as Judas
I met Drew 2 weeks ago at the stage door for Les Mis. He is the coolest guy ever. He's great in Les mis.. he is incredible in this, but no one will ever beat Carl Anderson (god rest). He was the best Judas ever. Drew is a great guy though.
He believed Jesus was only a man. He didn't know he'd be forgiven. He felt he betrayed his best friend for 30 pieces of silver and then to rub it into his face , turned him into the pharasees. And Jesus knew all along....and still loved him. But it killed him inside. Thats when he went to the pharacys to tell them where they'd find Jesus,, he already felt theconviction on his heart. " Damned for all time"
He is amazing. That said, I can't help preferring when the emphasis is on "You have MURDERED me" rather than "YOU have murdered ME." I get where his interpretation is coming from, but it seems to have more power to me the other way.
drew sarich is by far the best judas out there. no one else has played the role with such energy and rock-n-roll. well, carl anderson did for his era, but times have changed. drew is the carl of today.
O MY GOD NICE ACTING i was literally CRYING watching this!! i was just a little sad that they didnt include the "i dont want ur blood money" part, i kinda liked that part. you ROCK!!!!!!
