Although this summary is as Ever Stray says… “succinct and to the point “… The summary does miss quite a few things that make the book something more than what is described. Especially Judes strong desire to go to the university through his entire life. In fact as Jude is lying on his deathbed, alone, he can hear the graduating class of the University doing their ceremony and cheers. Since he has listened to these ceremonies his entire life, he’s able to Quote the ceremony word for word. As life leaves his body he hears the final cheers of the graduating class celebrating their achievement, thus indicating that he also had an achievement but did so outside of the university. The book is incredibly depressing and mostly about life‘s hardships not romance. The lesson and moral of the book is that no matter what your ambitions are, you can never rise above your status in society. Life is a hard and a unhappy thing to go through only for that to be discovered at the end of it.
