I have a 20 yr old calico that has had an open window to come and go through in the summer months her whole life. So judge did you keep your children locked in the house to protect them from life as well. I have a second cat that very seldomly goes outside and if she does it's for a short tour of the back yard. You make your kids aware of the dangers they face when they go outside. Do the same with your cats. I notice that the people who keep cats indoors are also the people who declaw them to turn them into plush toys. The only circumstance I would agree with you keeping a cat indoors is in a big city where thier only option outside would be a paved world.
I've got a 19 year old Norwegian Forest Cat who still comes and goes as he wants ,It depends where you live , I'm in rural Spain away from busy roads and no big predators , He loves the swimming pool too and sometimes follows me when I'm walking the dogs
With my daycare dog owners would say he won't bite....my 5 two year olds weren't getting close enough to find out!!!! 5 kids squealing and grabbing at a dog Good idea!
I have always had cats. We had one that was kept inside but cried constantly to get out. Finally let him out the back door and went inside. By the time I sat down in the living room, he was crying at the front door to come in! He was scared! Never went out again!!! 😂😆🤣
Leaving cats out at night in so California, they may become a snack to a coyote and several other cats, Bobcats and Cougars. I live in Las Vegas, Bobcats have been seen with small pets in their mouth and a Cougar attacked a 100 pound German Shepherd and had most of it for dinner in the L.A. mountains.
A neighborhood cat fan said that same thing. She went batshit when I told her I saw her cat get gutted in my backyard by a hawk because it was chasing a rabbit in MY yard. Again. She screamed I should have flew outside and saved her cat. Another neighbor had a boat that 2 cats allowed to roam tore to pieces. I HATE people like him. They NEVER think of anyone else
Cats do not belong outside! They are not wild cats. The life expectancy for an outside cat is shorter than an indoor cat. Keep you cats inside. If you really want to take them out, have them on a leash, or have an outdoor enclosure for them. Stop letting them roam free. It’s not good for them or the environment.

NOW a line bred inside to be inside cats true, they should stay in but with owners who build climbing walls, shelves and runways .
I agree, but we adopted a two year old cat who had been an indoor/outdoor cat and keeping her locked up at this point would have been cruel. She lived to be 21. But yes, indoor cats do live longer usually. Not always though. I have to add, that she rarely left our yard, and loved to hang out with my little dogs on a blanket in the garden. When she got old, we kept her indoors.

And if your cat causes damage to someone else, their pet, their property, and keep coming on someone else's property, or crossing roads, and you just say oh well cats belong outside, you are responsible! My girls lived a very long and healthy life, and stayed inside. I took them for rides, but never loose. Cats rarely survive against a car tire.
She is definitely right. I made my mistake bringing in a little kitty and raised him in the house. Now he's grown and I have to take him to the vet because he got out and he was in a battle with another cat and he can't put his leg down. 😕

My 14 year old kitty has always been indoors because I care about him and his safety. He is part of my family and at 14 he’s happy and healthy, if not moving a slower than he used to.
Cats are NOT wild animals, their ancestors were but modern cats are domestic just like dogs are not wild wolves anymore. Studies have shown that some wolves in captivity treated domestic dogs as immature wolves or wolf cubs. Studies have shown that no matter how old they get, a domestic cat maintains the emotional maturity of a 4 year old child. When nursed and raised from a kitten by one person, they see that person as their parent for their entire life. Contrary to some people's opinions, abandoned dogs and cats do not know how to fend for themselves. Just blowing off a bit of steam here. Our animals need us.

Cats, although mostly independent, are not wild animals. They're domesticated. There are safer ways to allow your cat to enjoy the great out doors, (walking them with a harness, or a catio) but letting them wander about in my opinion is reckless. They may be your baby to you, but don't assume everyone will be kind to your cat. There are bad actors, and some go out of their way to harm cats. Also, cats kill a lot of native wildlife, since they're hunters. In short, your cat depends on you to keep them safe and happy, so look ahead for potential dangers.
I had a cat wander into my yard at 1am. I have a Rottweiler x Great Dane. My dog killed the cat. Took the cat’s remains to a vet that cremated it and that was it. We weren’t liable. Please keep your cat either indoors or get them an outdoor cat enclosure because that was hard for me hearing the cat being killed. I don’t want to hear that again
We have a feral cat colony that we have cared for for many years in our backyard. We also have stray dogs that roam our neighborhood bc of other irresponsible pet owners. One evening, as my husband was sitting out on the back steps enjoying a smoke, he watched as one of our feral cats was chased across our backyard by three stray dogs. He watched helplessly as they cornered the cat & killed it. There was no time & nothing he could do but watch as it happened just that fast. We buried it on our property, but that was one memory my husband would rather have not had. And before anyone says anything about we should have protected the ferals better, they are feral, i. e., wild. We feed & water them & try to take care of them the best we can, but they are wild & unsocialized & do not allow us to pick them up or pet them the way our indoor cats that are our pets do.
Lol. I had a Bull Massif. Cats were his chew toys. Feral cats would tease him & pace back & forth across the top of the fence. He'd wait patiently & watch. When they got to the middle, he'd run full speed and ram the fence with his big block head. The cats that fell to the other side, got away. The cats that fell on our side, well, they never crapped in my vegetable garden again, once he saw them. 😅
Are you sure. Over the years we had lots of cats. They were both indoor/outdoor cats. Most of them lived 18/19 years. One was born under our moblile home. He was very wild when we got him. I tamed him, the sweetest cat on earth once he was not wild anymore.
THESE are your opinions.. Mine is cats love to be cats OUTSIDE and love being spoiled inside. They want and need both to be happy if they have had outside freedoms at some point. SOME get in people's spare tires and go for rides and that is how someone finds a stray. The ones born out who's parents were born out should be free to come and go. One in a line of indoor cats may never miss what it has never known. I am a country girl and BARN CATS are a must. They say cats hate water and baths. Mine love water and baths a few even want a blow dry. HUMANS should LEARN about the needs of animals they want to lock up in a house... sure you say you love them. No you love having them. Unless you have built shelves and tree post and climbing walls, have many things moving for the cat or cats to chase and catch..

The only thing i wish is that I could have a toy for my cats that would give them the thrill of the hunt. We do our best with long strings,"cat fishing" a few robot toys lasers, and one of my cats actually play fetch..... But i can see it when they watch their favorite show (the window) they want the hunt, the thrill, the misses and especially the kills. Wish i could give that to them without buying live mice and birds
My aunt sold rabbits. She had both show & food rabbits. Of course, Asians were her best customers, and one day, she heard meowing coming from the back of this customer's hatchback. All the rabbits were rolled in newspaper. She picked a couple up, & her cat jumped out! The lady tried to steal her cat & take it home to eat! Lol smh
Honestly, some cats will try to run outside. I had my cat since he was a kitten and for the life of me, he always trying to go outside. I don't want him to because of angry/mean people who harm cats and like Judge said run over by a car. I wish my cat understands that i love him and want to protect him from being hurt 😢
She’s 100% correct I tried to do it with a feral cat who is very friendly and very trusting the minute I brought her into my home she went effing ballistic, and I let her outside, and she lives outside my home in Florida, and she takes care of the fruit rat problems in Florida I feed her every day and give her treats in water every day, but she will not live in the house she doesn’t want to.
My daughter has a cat at home. Her cat is really a house pet because it never leaves the house and even my daughter's own yard. I told my daughter, that I feel sorry for her cat because he can't leave the house, he has no friends to be with or talk to. My daughter says she's more secure that her cat doesn't leave the house than being run over by cars outside.
I agree, keep ur cats inside or on ur property. I don't like cats and tired of them be on my lawn furniture, pooping down my outside basement steps, in flower pots, in addition to allergies. Like a dog, keep UR cats under ur supervision at ALL times.

Hawks, dogs, other cats, disease, getting trapped in holes & under houses, caught in motors as they climb up to warm themselves. Cats don't make it long out in the wild.

Well he is actually correct if you give cats their druthers they would come only to the porch and harken ye for food in morning and evening. They actually. Even Nay especially in snowy and cold conditions. Silent night stalking is. Like going to a fancy opera or concert. Or something for Kitty My roommate had a in couple cats. Even in sub zero temps you would go out to get the cats. Inside so they are not. Struggling for warmth. But we'd bring em in and twenty minutes of. Caterwauling and knocking stuff off the desk u couldn't open the door fast enough. For them they were plotzing get a pretty fluffy winter coat. And they prefer. Crisp night air

Its May 16 now in 2024, and I've never seen this one before cats are wild? What ,? Dont try and b.s. judge Judy, I live in Ireland now, I did grow up in America , and we have a cat here and she is in and out of the house depending on the weather, but, she is domesticated, sleeps in at night do too predators, like foxes, our isle of grean, is a lovely place for our cat , Blackie is her name and she is black, but stigma aside , she is good luck and I love our cat, inside or outside she is intelligent, wild ,so funny, not! 😉😊
House cats are not native to the continent of North America as they originated in Egypt, Iraq, and Iran. Therefore, when you let a cat wander, they destroy millions of native animals, including many songbirds which have gone extinct due to house cats.
Plus, their ancestors came from places that do not see drastic cold temperatures like places in North America, so domestic cats are not equipped to survive extreme cold temperatures even though they have the fur coat. It's cruel to nature and cruel to cats to make them live out in the elements.
