Judge Boyd (one of our very BEST judges), always tries the safety angle, about how drugs can kill you, to these addicts, rather than the discouragement angle, where a ten year jail sentence would discourage these addicts. It’s obvious they aren’t afraid of the health issues involved near as much as they fear the detainment sentences they will face, so rather than tell them they can be found dead by their family, it may be better to tell them they will be found by family in jail in a decade or longer from now if they continue using.

i truly respect boyd for giving her a chance to get clean and knowing the fact of the case is that prison does absolutely not help keep people clean. esp when you only have ten months. as someone that has done 8 years in prison i cant tell you how many people i seen come in with a year or so drug addicts get out and end up dead within 90 days. an its truly sad that some judges rather send people to prison instead of getting them the help. or offering the help. for instances like hers getting released without knowlege of why thinking hey im free they didnt send me to treatment so i still have no tools to use to keep me clean so lets just get high again. and i do understand the person has to want to change themself or no amount of help will help them stay clean. as im an addict with over 10 years clean now
@justmeinhere5905
@justmeinhere5905 Год назад
Why don’t they take treatment in prison? I believe if one is on probation for drugs and they don’t follow probation then they should go to jail. If they use when they get out, that’s on them not the system. If they were clean all them years in prison they should know the difference. These people are adults and have the right to make their own decisions. Anyone can be a drug user, they have the choice not to use.
@kpick2564
@kpick2564 Год назад
@@justmeinhere5905 unless youve ever been an addict youve never understand the difference in clean time and being in recovery. clean time is in prison its forced doesnt mean someone wants the help but they dont have a choice. an i said that. you have to want the help. if you dont want the help there is nothing noone can do at all. the programs in prison are filled with ppl using them to get good days and get out early they are abused by people using the system to get out early also. most addicts dont go to jail with enough time to get into programs. as programs in prison go off leggnth of sentence. for instance. iop intensive outpaitent treatment program is a 9 month program. if you get to prison with 18 months by the time you get out of intake you only got 15 months. if you get to your parent institution and they just started the program now you got to wait 9 months. when your able to get into the program if you dont have enough time to complete the program they dont even let you enrol in the program. so now they are sitting there wanting help but not able to get it inside prison because there sentence didnt have enough time when it was ready for them to sign up for the program. people think you just get into what ever programs you want in prison. it absolutely does NOT work like that unfortunaltly
@kpick2564
@kpick2564 Год назад
@@justmeinhere5905 because with a ten month sentence there isn’t enough time to even get enrolled in a treatment program in jail. You have to have enough time to complete the program enrolling in. So with a ten month sentence they wouldn’t allow her in a 9 month program. Because by the time she got to the prison she would serve the little bit of time she would probably be under 6 months remaining. And most states have a furlow program and or good time. And that cuts them out even sooner. In this perticular case she wouldn’t of been able to. Longer sentences yes but anything with a year or less you just don’t have enough time so you’d be screwed wanting help and not being eligible for that help
