Judges want to see that you put effort into your choreography! If your routines dont have any cool dance moves, you should consider adding some 🙂 it’s only 0.1 deduction but you should save every little mark you can ☺️ Get creative 👍#gymnastics #judging

YESSSSS complex choreo is my JAM. Especially when it’s got some simple skills (like butterflies) sprinkled in.

Exactly! Like Vera Caslavska'a signature butterfly-kicks to illusion-turn to split to _complex floor-work._ Such amazing choreography.

The deduction for complex choreography should be at least 0.2, because it something that we don't see anywhere near enough of these days and it's also something that audience appreciates. Example, take the clip at 0:16 of Liu TingTing from the 2019 World Championship balance beam final--the crowd actually applauded her for that. Meaning if it didn't go unnoticed by the audience, then it doesn't go unnoticed by the judges. But far too many coaches/gymnasts/choreographers do not seem to want to recognise this at all; esp as it's history in the sport dates as far back as the 50s.

It's worth only 0.1, but really makes performances pleasing to watch. However, grace and power are entirely different talents. Not every gymnast has both of them.

YES ! Someone acknowledging that Ellie Black's choreo is complex and I love her multiple changes of plan during her floor, so underrated !

i feel like Simone's "booty bounce" (if were using aussie man reviews terms, which I do) is the most iconic part of her routine, like yeah all four biles have her name but that is what i really think of tbh, it really makes the routine

Pavlova's BHS step out to split in her 2003 floor routines is my favorite.

I think it shouldn't be that hard to have at least one small part of a beam or floor routine with something that requires a little more thought and effort. And based on how small of a portion it needs to be to get credit for it, the .1 value associated with it is very fair. It isn't like you have to make the whole routine some super complex, crazy fabulous dance number for only a tenth of a point! It is just a cool memorable moment that is more unique and intertwined with the routine that isn't necessarily an impressive skill that gets you DV points. I could agree with some of the other comments though. If you want gymnasts/coaches to put more effort into developing some sort of small creative or interesting part of a beam or floor routine, maybe the value should be .2 points. I think that it is great that the open-ended CoP over the years has started to recognize that the "dance" skills shouldn't be overlooked and they can be just as difficult, if not more, than acrobatic skills... but I don't know if there is enough yet in terms of rewarding artistry. No, I am not saying that artistry is looking long and lean and doing ballerina-esque moves. Yes, part of artistry is rhythm, movement, and synchronization with floor music. Yes, part of it is just how you construct a beam routine together that is flows nicely and being precise and thoughtful with your arm placements, movements, and choreography. But I don't want artistry to get confused with being posey and doing repetitive graceful arm movements over and over! Part of artistry is just have some originality to your dance or choreography. Doing something that makes you remember that you are watching a certain gymnast's routine! Something that makes you clap or think is so cool and impressive even though it was wasn't even something in the CoP that gives you DV or CV to your score. I think some of this might have gotten lost because there isn't enough energy to have more complex choreography because people are trying to pack in as many skills that get them real points. So yes, maybe "dance" requirements have gone up, and that is a good thing to reward gymnasts who may lack in powerful acrobatics, but great execution on dance elements doesn't equate to artistry either. So now we just see an increased amount of botched, subpar dance elements in routines because people are trying to take advantage of the points associated with those (i.e. people who seriously shouldn't be attempted ring based leaps and jumps!). Even those elements can take a lot of energy to do, along with the crazy acrobatic passes. So unless you are a superhuman with the craziest conditioning, adding in some more complex choreography, that has little impact or value to your score, probably ain't gonna happen. Because hey, you don't need to worry about losing a tenth when you expended your energy on gaining an extra 4 or 5 tenths from just doing skill after skill. Sorry. Rant over. :-D

Could you do more E score videos? For example, could you please do a E score video on any of Kyla Ross' balance beam routines or bar routines from elite?

so would you say that giorgia villa’s old straddle dive roll is a deduction or is it considered choreography? it’s been a debate for a while now...

Flip Fly Tumble- that’s what i was thinking. many people were saying it was a 5 tenth deduction for a leg separation in a “hecht roll”, so i was just asking. thank you!!!
@FlipFlyTumble
@FlipFlyTumble 4 года назад
@@BitchWho-my8zm oh i highly doubt that. and the max deduction for leg separation is 0.3 anyway
