As an italian police officer, I find this judge so empathetic. In Italy drunk drivers responsible for killing people in car accidents hardly ever go to jail, due to a whole lenient system which often justifies the defendant and doesn't take enough care of the victim. This judge's explanation of her decision, her profound intelligence and preparation, demonstrate how strict and balanced at the same time a sentence can be. Thanks and much respect for this woman.

It's too bad people can't learn from other people's mistakes especially this day and age with Uber and whatnot. Alcohol has ruined so many lives I understand prohibition but I also understand why you can't ban it and unfortunately it all comes down to personal accountability. Equals unfortunate at the same time as the fact that many people don't think to begin with let alone after they start drinking. My little brother's close friend was paralyzed by drunk driver at Penn State College, all avoidable life-changing events that cause lifelong sadness. It all breaks my heart, I'm guilty of it too when I was younger and finally immature enough to realize how stupid I was and how lucky I was not to hurt anyone besides myself in one instance. Is all breaks my heart I just hope there's a nice place were the innocent and kind-hearted go after this life but that's a whole another tangent, I just hope one day people can all find peace together without these stupid avoidable accidents at the hands of someone who's not thinking

I agree. I don't really understand why the family forgave her, unless it is to do with their own grieving process, which is understandable, perhaps. Maybe they are seeking to release the anger in some way and think that forgiving her for their pain and anger will do so? In fact, they are not in a position to forgive her, because the only person who was truly wronged is dead and incapable of doing so, or not. If it were my son, killed by a drunk behind the wheel of a car, there would never be forgiveness from me.

I agree! In 2017 my fiancee was struck and killed by a drug-impaired driver. That woman received the maximum sentence of 48 months. Under Minnesota law, she was eligible for release after 32 months. She has now been out of prison for over 3 years, but my fiancee still lays in the grave where her family - children, grandchildren, etc. - and I laid her to rest 6 years ago! 😢

yes there is, we are all sinners and deserve death from God but He sent his only son Jesus to save us from our sins and give us eternal life. You see we are all sinners we have all committed sin in God's eyes . So in God's courts you (mankind) are guilty unless we repent and accept Jesus Christ as we all need forgiveness in rebelling against God's laws. If we reject Jesus one day we will be held in judgement for our 'crime'. We will be accountable to God for what we choose about his son Jesus. The bible tells us this.

My God, Just 10 to 15 years for taking a life driving while under the influence and while she was on parole, she does not deserve any mercy or compassion. If she is in pain, that does not give her the right to inflict the same on others. Because of her, a 14-year-old totally innocent teen lost his whole life. How is this justice any way or form?

It's unfortunate that we live in what we've been taught as "The land of the free and the home of the brave" yet we can't even trust the injustice system. A majority of the comments are praising the judge for doing the job she was sworn in to do, unlike many, many, many others. That speaks volumes. Good to see people who aren't afraid to expose what's really going on in this cruel cruel world we live in. Prayers and condolences to the victims and anyone that's affected by this horrible tragedy. 🙏🏾💪🏾
