The trope is based on the legend of a swordsman who would scatter the blades of those he had killed when fighting. Not really sure what it was meant to do. Just that there are some stories of it
Maybe but this was my first thought: "Here, have some spare swords, in case you lose yours." "Hey, thanks, man." "Do you still want to fight?" "You know what, let's get some saki."
Oh yeah. That scene at the end of Seven Samurai where Kikuchiyo was just stabbing like 8 swords into the ground right before the bandits launched their final assault was just pure badass energy.
the handle is too conical to be used as a proper handle without the ribbons tying your hand. If the dex is to be believed, that will kill you faster than you can kill your enemies
There's a vampire cowboy first person shooter for the ps2. All the weapons have a melee element to them. Crossbow that fires sticks of dynamite and has 2 retractable blades in the front. Revolvers with a karambit style blade coming out of the grip (NOT under the barrel like most gunsblades have them). Rochet launcher with a huge hammer at the end. Shotgun with an axe under the butt. You should check out the designs. Pretty cool stuff.
just want to point out that Touya can extend the blade on his gun to longsword length, and retract it when he wants to just shoot something, so when it's knife sized, he probably wouldn't be using it for combat, It's also made out of a dragon's tooth, so it'd be pretty light even when fully extended
Also I just think it could be useful in short bladed form as a defense weapon, kinda like the Cherudims dual pistols from Gundam 00 season two, just think, someone attacks you with a melee weapon while your gun is out, instead of trying to move out of the way or taking out a weapon that in that short amount of time, you just block with your blade located on the bottom of your weapon, granted, a guard that is located in front of where your fingers would be and a hook that can catch the blade
Meanwhile this was my first thought: "Here, have some spare swords, in case you lose yours." "Hey, thanks, man." "Do you still want to fight?" "You know what, let's get some saki." "Bet."
scattering a bunch of weapons around the battle field is a great tactic, especially if you have trouble holding on to yours and know your opponent has little to no idea on how to properly use it, otherwise its a kinda bad idea because it only serves to give your opponent the same advantages as it gives you
One thing I like about the claymores from Claymore is that the fact that the design has this weakpoint but no one can remember them ever breaking actually turns out to be foreshadowing lol
There was something i watched where one swordsman had to have a device rigged up on his suit that supplied him with swords, he had either a curse or just insane amounts of strenght that would cause ANYTHING used by him to turn to dust when it hits something
The claymores are indestructable (at least within the island they inhabit) so the weak part of thier design was already taken into account, they needed to by hyper strong to be able to cut awakened beings who mostly have skin stronger then steel. If you watched the anime and liked it I strongly suggest reading the manga, the animations last 2 episodes were a non cannon rushed ending and the manga goes on for 1 or 2 more 'seasons' worth of content. Its now completely finished and its so good, so go read to the end of it because it is well worth the time.
Claymore swords are one solid piece, they aren't able to be disassembled, this is because they need to be sturdy enough to cut through Yoma flesh, which is nearly impossible to cut through with a normal sword and so a specially made sword crafted...
The revolver dagger could be used like a bayonet. Revolvers main drawback is the reload time and low magazine count. Add a blade to the end, and suddenly, now if people get too close while your reloading, you are still armed, even though you do not have your gun reloaded.
I can't remember the man's name of hand but a lord in japan placed all his katanas in the floor in a room for his last stand. As the swords would dull and brake he would switch to another.
There was a practice in among Japanese feudal lords of having weapons on display or in caches throughout their castles incase their homes were invaded at any point. The dramatic aspect in those movies being that a character is making a declaration that the battlefield is their castle and no opponent is safe there.
Pistol bayonets are actually a real thing, and not even that uncommon. As you might expect they were fairly common in the First World War (especially among the British) where close quarters trench fighting meant the additional utility (in case you are grappled or need to reload) could save your life.
Just to comment of the swords in claymore, the very thin tang makes Seneca for conserving metal, since the metal has be stated in the series to be nigh-indestructible and unbreakable.
Isn't stabbing a blade into the ground a really bad idea? I think it had something to do with scratching the blade, causing the protective oil coating, which can cause the blade to rust quicker.
I'm not exactly an expert on this, but as far as I know it's scattering swords like that wouldn't have been done at any point in history before the swords and firearms act was passed. to start off with, swords are quite expensive. so it wouldn't make sense to carry around a whole bunch of heavy, and expensive swords just to throw them around the battlefield. The other thing against this is that a samurai's primary weapon wasn't a sword but a bow. The only time I've heard real references to a samurai using a sword as a primary weapon would be when they're fighting completely unarmed villagers, since it was illegal for non-samurai to own weapons, or in highly orchestrated duels with witnesses etc. and while in these duels some crazy stuff did happen, you can just refer back to the first point as to why this particular thing didn't happen. in fact the only crazy thing I can think of that's the same degree of crazy that actually happened would be samurai showing up without swords.
I still like having something protruding out the end of my handgun, it never really comes up but if you grappling with a hand gun that or a light on your gun can stop it from going out of battery.
Well bayonets for pistols are a thing. It kinda makes sense if you are just carrying one weapon in a fantasy-esque setting. You WANT something that can't run out of ammo. You also want to just shoot people before they stab you.
Sole eater Well I don't belive there were people that wold be willing to spend this much money on weapons in history But for that carakter it'd be fitting. Don't buy them, take them form defeated enemies. And using all of those different swords, shoes how experienced he is, that he can adapt so quickly. And lastly I think trying different swords, would mean he has seen a battlefield you loose your weapon no worries there are a lot more.
For those wondering why he used katanas like confetti, no it wasn't to try and hit his opponent, katanas as a sword are pretty thin and light compared to others, and while they are incredibly sharp, they can dull and even break fairly quickly, so if you are planning on having a long drawn out battle it helps to not only have multiple katanas to swap to, but to also have them EVERYWHERE so your never without a weapon
This is unrelated to the video, but I remember you showing some pictures from historical documents that mentioned reverse grip. I was wondering if you would tell me what those documents were so I could check them out?
Well they're ment to be warriors do..I'd think they'd prefer function. In most fiction the blade would decrease the range and accuracy of the gun a tiny bit. Knowing my luck when he throws them one would hit me....
The bayonet on a pistol is unfortunately real...... Not so much revolvers but if their are some with a rail. They're mostly on mall ninja and zombie extermination weapons, and almost every Springfield xd. They even have a useless spike bayonet lol
That dude from soul eater doesn’t do that to attack. That’s solely and specifically so he can wrap the caution tape around the fighting area to keep kids from wandering in. The dude just likes being dramatic about it lmfao
