I met her, and she was a most wonderful cool lady! And she is a lovely person- so sweet and suave, and she cared enough to remember my name....It was a wonderful day when I met her!!! Yay!!!
Such a treasure, took a friend to the 50th anniversary screening, he had never seen the film, I watched his face at the end and he had such a look of disbelief and shock that none of the characters survived, I'll never forget! I imagine that's how audiences reacted in the 60s
For the reasons that Judith "Barbara" cited, I too think that that film, "night of the living dead", made in 1967, was orders of magnitude better than all of the subsequent "zombie" movies, or any horror movies made before, or after. That original film by George A. Romero was done in such a way that audiences were transported to that place, with those people. I got a real sense of the absolute terror being experienced by those poor people trapped in that farmhouse.
She is my favorite horror movie actress and I treasure my autographed photos of her. She fit the part so naturally. My favorite part of the movie was in the beginning when it was just her and Duane Jones. They were the lead actors in the movie.
Robbie Hall, I wish I had her autograph. Despite The Night... was before my time. Who wouldn't agree with me that for a woman in her 70's, she doesn't look a day older than 45!/50?! And yet gorgeous? Well, the new 70s are the new 45-50. I love her & to me, age is a just a number & her acting was top notched.... This interview of her my mouth was wide open; & I love her distinguished Scottish/Irish accent. I know what VCR tapes are, & I acquired one that a peer had. But I bought 3 DVD'S on the this movie.... I believe I wore one out. Hey, I got 2 more & I if I have to buy another I will in a heartbeat. I must always have this timeless classic. VCR's? No. But I have one not taped by me when in those old days you could tape the TV. But now with DVRs you can. But who wouldn't agree with me that Judith O'Dea, come on, doesn't look like a lady in her 70s? XXX. I'd be a liar if I'd say she looks like when she made/starred in this film at 23. However, I'm sorry. She's still gorgeous decades later.
I believe the character is Barbra, not Barbara. Man, that is a distinct Transatlantic accent, not unlike Mrs. Howell or Katharine Hepburn. Simply charming. We watched NOTLD this Halloween and it is still a powerful piece of cinema-- not just the ending but the whole thing. Each time I watch the movie I appreciate more and more the photography, lighting, compositions, satire, acting (especially Duane and Judith), the whole mood of the film, and the music score. Honestly if it had been shot a bit differently, this could have been a found footage movie of this group of people's last hours alive.
Wow! For a lady in her 70s, she's still very attractive. I still love you, Judith O'Dea! You played the role perfectly. The movie, before my time, I must of seen it 3000 times. And always will. Sad Duane Jones passed so young. 51? RIP:
i loved her in NOTLD!! lots of people can’t stand the original barbra but i loved her because in that film her acting his genuine and relatable and really puts the viewer into her shoes and what she is experiencing! i also respect o’dea in how she seems very knowledgeable when it comes to film and how effective and jarringly shocking it was to see such a frightening macabre masterpiece in 1968 where no one makes it out. i also appreciated how she handled the remake in the sense that she was indicating that remakes can never capture what was present in the original that made it so special.
i totally agree with you, alot of people found her annoying and useless but they need to understand that barbara saw her brother killed in front of her minutes after being attacked by the man herself, she was terrified and in shock, i love her version and only her version, i never seen the 90s remake and really have no desire to.
I didn't know she used that mid -Atlantic accent. Must've been trained in it in her younger days, although even by the time she made NOTLD in '68, actors were starting to be more encouraged to use their natural accents.
It's possible, gorgeous Judith O'Dea (74) could of had plastic surgery because she doesn't look a day older than 45!!! Wow!!! No. That was inappropriate to say. I don't think she had any plastic surgery. Sorry, Judith O'Dea.
No she wasn't from England...it's sort of an old school southeast accent. I went to Pittsburgh and many locals talked this way . Not every word but like every other word came out with some sort of an accent.. i thought it was cool
I think that Judy has become rather strange and “Affected” over the years. That is NOT her normal speaking voice . She is a kid from Pennsylvania and has affected this pretentious manner of speaking.I find it very difficult to listen to her. Amazingly disingenuous .
