I’m just getting into judo and I’m really enjoying the info. As an old guy of 37 😂 just getting into the sport, it can be intimidating. so I just wanted to comment and say, thank you.

Glad you are enjoying it, I am 33yo and also starting judo very recently. It is quite a fun activity and your body really toughens up a lot. I train bjj too so both complement each other quite well.

Me at 43. It's painful. But a good balance/bridge between stand up to full grappling. Enjoyed it more than BJJ.

I already have two years plus of boxing experience, I'm getting into judo now. I guess I'm officially an MMA practitioner now. That's the beauty, you're not limited to one fighting discipline.

Started kickboxing a year ago, put 7 hours per week into it since and i just started judo last week , twice a week, around 2 hours per class, i love it. Despite having a good amount of sport, starting judo takes your body perception to another level, building different muscles, balance etc.. it's great !

Keep this up, your videos are a great resource for me to learn and also to plan my lessons!

I generally prefer to teach osotogari third, after morote seionage and ogoshi. The problem with teaching osotogari first, especially if you're teaching TWO or more beginners, is that neither one is skilled at controlling the throw OR falling, and an uncontrolled fall from osotogari can be quite hard and result in uke's head hitting the mat. Better that they gain a little experience throwing and being thrown by a couple of techniques that are easier to control. Eugene also makes a good point: There's a skill to being a good uke, and far too many people take it for granted and just stand there when tori is practicing uchikomi. A good uke, though, will move or react in the way tori needs him/her to move and react to learn the technique and acquire muscle memory for maximum benefit.
@kusotare9559
@kusotare9559 10 месяцев назад
@@TheModernVictorian Absolutely. Beginners may know ukemi from sitting, squatting, standing, and rolling, but are not used to the additional force of being thrown. If you have beginners throwing beginners, you really need to monitor them closely because neither one of them really knows what they're doing in those first couple of throws. A poorly executed osotogari on a novice can more easily result in a concussion than from most turn throws, IMO.

When I first thought this I would step as far as I can to the side to get as much pull and off balance as I can. Then the instructors told to step closer in. You don’t get as much off balance or pull and the get countered easier.

Hi, I would like to ask a question. I train jiu jitsu and Yesterday I met a judo black belt/jiu jitsu white belt that I asked a couple of questions to. He asked to use my jacket to demonstrate the proper grips. I let use it, but as he demonstrated he hit me in face/head 3x...I'm a 5'3 woman and he is over 6 feet...how do you handle men who over step boundaries by hitting woman?

I miss de physics, ... I mean, how do you unbalance in each move? I got to move his center of mass, I think. Would it be forward or sideways? Is it made by your arms or torso?

Afaik off balancing is usually part foot movement, part upper body, and part timing. The direction you off balance depends on the throw

I’m no Judo expert but that guy seems pretty young to have a red and white belt. My understanding is that’s for Judo sixth dans and up. I’m not being rude or accusing anybody of anything, it’s just the only other Judoka I’ve seen at that high a level have been old men. It’s just surprising.

eh, probably, but I mean if your brain has way more folds than mine does, it’s possible to learn it (or at least these) through visualization! It’s likely tho that you’d have to have good mind/body connection, like previously doing karate, dancing, skating, rock climbing etc. to be able to FEEL it. I get the impression that these folks here are really emphasizing feeling it -> success, so there’s also a good likelihood that Judo is harder to visualize than most, esp with so much emphasis on rapidly finding leverage on various sized people! Prolly should take classes imo lolol
@TheArizonaRanger.
@TheArizonaRanger. 11 дней назад
@NickBatinaComposer I'd love to agree that you can simply visualize it, but the big thing with grappling compared to striking is there's active resistance in your movements.

With due respect Sensei, the first thing you teach people in Judo are the ukemis. Also, O-soto-gari is a hard fall in your backs, and without ukemi training, the person being thrown can hurt his head. So, my suggestion is to follow Kodokan's approach, and teach ukemis and then de-ashi-barai. IMHO, the best way to avoid o-soto-gari is to step back and counter with o-soto-gari.
