Listened to this while thinking of Paul Saviano, as requested. May the memory of you be a blessing to those who think of you, Mr. Saviano. Sending my love, appreciation, and admiration.
So many owe so much thanks to Phil Saviano for his stalwart tenacious work, for his exposés of child sexual abuse in the Boston Roman Catholic church clergy, Roman Catholic priest paedophiles who were protected by the complicit Roman Catholic Cardinal Law. What a debt is owed to this man. He will need no fear facing his Master, which is more than can be said for those unholy, insincere crawthumpers. Requiescat in pace Phil.
After a confusing google search for Paul Saviano, I'm pretty sure people on this thread are referring to Phil Saviano, who was instrumental in helping Boston Globe reporters uncover the case against the Catholic Church depicted in the movie "Spotlight" from 2015. As he lay dying in 2021, he wrote "Give a listen to Judy Collins singing ‘Bird On A Wire’ and think of me."
909chuck 2 years ago A great song and a remarkable singer. I hope this remains available for the future viewers to long enjoy. Just a superb arrangement and fine musicianship. THANX!
I had to listen to this version after reading Paul Saviano's story. Thank you for your courage and determination to bring those to justice. RIP Paul Saviano.
Beautiful music has such a soothing effect on the soul. Long live great music!!!!!! ( and of course, the highly talented artists who perform them ) They don't need expensive sets/dancers/lights to perform....just their own pure dedication to their craft and not the Dollar!!
I think this is the most beautiful rendition of this wonderful Leonard Cohen song, ever! Ms. Collins always has been, and still is perfection, we are so blessed to have her to entertain us! I feel these playing with her at this time were among the finest! For sure they all outdid themselves in this particular rendering of Bird On A Wire! Just this guys opinion! Be well, JSE.
I have listened to this song countless times. It represents my constant aiming to have the freedom to be who I am without the tether of controlling parents, controlling employers , narcissists , and selfish people. On many occasions I have succeeded and sometimes needed to admit failure and move on. This song reminds me of the struggle and reward in a tuneful brooding manner. Bravo , Art
to write poetry is true freedom, for the spiritual world joins in and gives intuitive words, you will be amazed and content, gift yourself the art of the word..........
Of all the versions I have heard, this is the one that sounds the most completely feral and natural, despite her many years of training, even at this point in her career. I have her same range, and I have admired how she has maintained the treasure that is her voice. I know it is not easy to keep such a delicate instrument in form.
duncanengler 3 years ago One of the best things about this video is that it features the great harp playing of my childhood friend, Don (Bosco) Brooks out of Dallas, Texas. Played with the greats, Judy, Kris, Jerry Jeff...RIP old friend.
ScotsjohnSE 2 years ago Thank you beta hi-fi, this is perfection! Really happy you were kind enough to upload. I think this may have been a Public Broadcast concert, not quite sure! I think this is her best version, that lovely and fantastic bluesy backup. Who could ask for more! Again many thanks for this and your other gifts to us! Be Well, JSE.
Beta Hi-Fi Archive 2 years ago Hi I am so pleased to hear from you. Donny's playing was one of the key attractions for me when I went to a dozen or so Judy Collins concerts in the mid-1970s. Did you know that you can listen to two of those concerts from 1973 on the Wolfgangsvault website?? Also, there is a 30-minute BBC TV broadcast of another 1973 concert where Donny is featured prominently. You can sometimes find a copy on eBay. What did Donny do in more recent years?
They perform this wonderful song by Cohen as it were a blues. I far prefer the original, but this is also good experiment. Anyway Judy has awonderful voice!
Nu stiu daca Bird on the Whire este compozitia lui Leonard. Dar constat ca pe cat trece vremea, aceasta superba melodie si acest superb text are parte de cele mai minunate interpretari. Una dintre ele este acesta.
