Actually, it's a brilliant line. Imperfect tense, indicating a past, habitual occurrence. She's with him out of habit, because that's the status quo that she's used to, Tim Rice is not a stupid man. That might be the cleverest lyric in the entire show.
I've heard multiple versions of Elaine Paige and also the live Idina Menzel one filmed for TV and... while I enjoy each and every one, I tend to agree. This is one great version.
Damn straight! They did it at my high school and I've loved it ever since....probably my fave musical after Les Mis! Great stuff...so sad though! But that's what makes it great....bring on the angst!
I love listening to this song when I'm upset - it's just pure bad ass girl power :) and Judy's voice is AMAZING. Makes me feel so much better every time :)
I lovelovelove the music in this musical! And it's fantastic how you can hear the ABBA influence in some of the songs :) Pity the story is not the same calibre as the music.
unfortuantly I don't know sweedish. Glad to know this is the Broadway version is their a video version. I even liked this when my sister was in ametur version Chess is truly one of my favorite musicals.
Judy's voice is sweet throughout, but Elaine Paige gives this song the icy edge that it demands. Listen to the line "How the cracks begin to show..." However, I prefer Judy's version of "Heaven Help My Heart".
She is definitely brilliant. Can't say the same about David Carroll, though. The only recording with a consistently good cast is the 2002 Swedish recording.
The best ever performance of Nobody's Side is from Jodi Benson in the 1990 Long Beach Light Orchestra's version of Chess: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LSQ_2ncohII.html
Great voice and love this song, but not a patch on the original Elaine Paige version. Elaine was the original Florence Vassy when the show opened in London and Judy opened the show in New York. Quite different voices. Not sure about the Julia Murney comment - think her version of this song is great (but still not as good as Elaine!)
I'm pretty sure there's a way, since I've seen people plagiarize videos. Go ask on the comments to a featured video and you'll probably have a better chance at someone telling you how to do it.
She does a lot of Broadway, West End and off-Broadway shows. She’s been nominated for four Tonys and two Olivier’s- the latest Tony was for Fun Home and the latest Olivier was for Fiddler on the Roof. She was also in the film Tick Tick Boom recently.
Four years late! Lol What's going on around me Is barely making sense I need some explanations fast I see my present partner In the imperfect tense And I don't see how we can last I feel I need a change of cast Maybe I'm on nobody's side. And when he gives me reasons To justify each move They're getting harder to believe I know this can't continue I've still a lot to prove There must be more I could achieve But I don't have the nerve to leave. Everybody's playing the game But nobody's rules are the same Nobody's on nobody's side Better learn to go it alone Recognize you're out on your own Nobody's on nobody's side. The one I should not think of Keeps rolling through my mind And I don't want to let that go No lovers ever faithful No contract truly signed There's nothing certain left to know And how the cracks begin to show! Never make a promise or plan Take a little love where you can Nobody's on nobody's side Never stay too long in your bed Never lose your heart, use your head Nobody's on nobody's side. Never take a stranger's advice Never let a friend fool you twice Nobody's on nobody's side Never be the first to believe Never be the last to deceive Nobody's on nobody's side And never leave a moment too soon Never waste a hot afternoon Nobody's on nobody's side Never stay a minute too long Don't forget the best will go wrong Nobody's on nobody's side.
One of my all time favorite songs from one of my all time favorite musicals! The only thing I dislike is the lyric "I see my present partner in the imperfect tense". Imperfect tense... as in conjugation...shudder. It's even worse when you realize the character is a Russian language translator!
I know what it means. I guess it is pretty clever, but it kind of bothers me. And I never said Tim Rice was stupid- as I said, this is one of my all-time favorite musicals.
this is too slow! I need to do if for my singing exam and i was listening to idina menzel do it but thought i should listen to this! this now annoys me!
She is a bit bland, but Judy, though and excellent vocalist, is not the best. Look up Julia Murney. Excellent interpretation and execution of the song in every way.
Dan Keeley Oh, I know, that was what I was comparing it to, hence the "out of pitch" comment xD At least, in the yt performance I've seen of her sing it, her high notes were a bit of a screamo disaster, but you know. it fits. Still doesn't beat Helen Sjöholm though.
Eter Puralis In one performance, yes. However, there is another live performance where she nails that scream like a boss, so I think it may have just been a fluke.
Dan Keeley Naw, from what I can remember from some random interview she was in, she just got the role last minute, so she didn't have enough practice or something.
