His character was so believable and reminded me of so many older gentlemen I knew as a boy growing up in a tiny town in West Virginia.

Will Geer was a terrific Grandpa to us all. As "Ike Godsey" said, "He's the best grandpa in Jefferson County."

One of my favorite characters on the show was Grandpa. Never having grandparents growing up, Will and Ellen always seemed to he the perfect ones. I did have a great aunt who was kinda like a grandmother. Great show, great cast, great writers just sorry it all ended but it was getting away from the early years which are by far my favorites.

Loved The Walton's. Will Gear was a socialist which was not so surprising since many of his colleague actors got blacklisted in the late 40s and 50's. He decided to become more patriotic by the time The Walton's offered him the role.
