I bought 2 Cross Current X's and one ride in the rain resulted in water intrusion into the display. I'm being told that I have to pay for a replacement because of some small print in their warranty that excludes water damage. I wouldn't have a problem with that had I dropped the bike in a lake but riding it in the rain should Not Void The Warranty!
I have the same problem, although it doesn't prevent me from reading the numbers. When I have a chance, I'm going to see whether I can open the display up to dry it out.
This is the type of douchy customer service that makes my decision. I like their bikes, however, I will not be treated that way, especially with what is essentially a new, experimental-type product. I've heard similar issues with Rad Electric, but they are fast to respond with a positive answer. Maybe with enough complaints they will change their attitude.
These bikes should be completely waterproofed for what they cost, so what happens if the bike is dirty and I hose it down and its damage. I like these bikes and I'm looking buy one but they need to really work ok the little kinks. Customer should not foot the bill for them going with cheap parts to save a dime on manufacturing cost especially waterproofing electronics.
Buying the CCS was the best thing I could have done with $1699. I’m 68 and have been watching the EB options for 5 years. The technology finally got tweaked to where a good E-bike is available at a reasonable cost. I’m not getting any younger either so it was finally decision time. . All I wanted it for was to ride five miles to town and get exercise along the way. I generally run the streets in town doing the speed limit and keep up with what little traffic we have. The CCS has been an absolute pleasure to ride. My thanks to Tora!
Just got 150 milage on my S. Last weekend I rode it on Santa Ana Trails from Norco up to the end trail. 19 miles stretch on one way. I was on Eco mode and occasionally use boost throttle on uphill, running at average speed of 18mph. From full charge I was down on 50% when I reach the end trail. Going back I was conservative on speed of 15 to 18 mph and try to run below 200watts. Once I hit the 47volts, I can feel the assist is very less and on 46v its almost gone. Barely made it back. half a mile left, out from 38 miles total, I was manually pedaling. Something to keep in mind about the range from stock battery🔋 size. Love the bike though, just want to share real life milage.
Juiced Bikes thanks for clarifying that. will try to setup to 40v. I was thinking it was just the low voltage of lipo but didn't realize the controller is already cutting.
Setting to 40v definitely gave me more miles. I took it again for 39 miles run purely on eco mode. On my 37 miles on the way back, I was down to 45 volts and still felt the assist. I put it on S mode and run 28 mph for almost 2 miles and still felt the full assist. I overtook some road bikes, not my intention to show off just trying to drain the battery to the limit as I almost getting near to the place I parked. :). Didn't know one of the road bike tailed me and was thanking me for the ride. LOL.
I was browsing last night on juiced bikes website. I had a few questions with the new Cross Current Air 500 watts 21 amp battery and I was able to chat to with Tora himself. He's the founder CEO of juiced bikes and he's here chatting with me (WOW)! Suffice it to say I will be buying the bike. So excited right now can't wait.
Awesome, Tora is a smart and hard working guy, it's neat when you can interface directly with the people who are making this happen... I felt the same way when we were talking for this review (but also tried to press him on the issues etc. to honor you guys)
I used the online Chat from their website and talked to two people, a Natasha and June and neither were really that friendly or helpful. Left me concerned if I did get their bike how their support would treat me if there were problems in the future... Have you Gotten the bike and how do you like it?
Great review. I got one of these the other day and it is fantastic. My co-workers can't believe I'm going to commute 28 miles round-trip on an electric bike until I show them this bike! Also, for what it's worth I did notice some front brake rub out of the box. I took it to my LBS and also told them to tighten the rear spokes as I've heard of that being an issue on other CrossCurrent bikes.
Nice, thanks for that tip Ari! It sounds like tightening your rear spokes helped with rubbing... hopefully the local shop was easy to work with (price and time wise) were they comfortable servicing an ebike?
Yes, this is Helen's Cycles in Santa Monica, CA. They recently started selling electric bikes and didn't ask any questions when I brought it in for service.
Have the local bike shop check if the disc brake rotor is not flat or some how warped in some way on both the rear and front wheels; while also checking and adjusting ones hydraulic disk brakes optimally(as brakes are pretty important safety item); also have the local bike shop check, tension and tighten the spokes on both the rear and front wheels to ensure they are both true and tensioned tightly to help ensure a strong, reliable and stable set of wheels(as wheels are pretty important item on bicycle); now with all of the stated really basic pre-requisite safety bicycle service work outlined above before one places one CCS in actual "real world" service; should not cost more than about approximately $80-$90(about 5% of cost of CCS $1.7K bike); and is likely a good long term CCS electric bike investment in terms helping to ensure and keep ones newly acquired CCS electric bike hopefully smooth running and trouble-free; and is also potentially helpful and useful to help the new CCS electric bike owner; identify and document any potential CCS electric bike issues and/or problems that could prove much more costly down the line on a long term basis(call it cheap bike insurance and/or assurance on a $1.7K investment); as one in fact only has seven actual days free trial, to actually try out ones CCS electric bike to see if it actually meets ones mutual approval and/or mutual satisfaction or not; before one has to decide whether to actually return it to the seller or not.
Sure thing, I kept the video unlisted because their inventory has been low and Juiced Bikes requested another week or so of wait time... but a lot of people were asking so I'm glad it has helped you out ;)
Love this bike and the price is spot on. Great job Tora and great review Court. As soon as the guys at Rocket Electrics in Austin get one I'll go and test it. Thanks. =)
I managed to get the 650W version of this bike, $1500 closeout (5 years ago). Accessoried exactly like the one reviewed. 5000 miles of trouble-free riding so far.
Great review, honest assessment, cool company...mass producing bikes at this price point while paying attention to as many details as possible in the engineering process is unheard of from any other ebike company I've ever seen. Only thing I'd suggest is a narrow-wide front chainring to prevent the occasional chain drop, and an "off-road" option as that bafang can handle 1200w peaks and still be reliable for 10k miles. If Tora or any juiced bikes staff is reading this, could you disclose if the mosfets can handle up to 60v? If so, I'm very interested in making a 52v pack for this to hotrod it for around 32mph. I know a manufacturer in china that can build me a PF cell pack using your case.
This is a surprisingly awesome bike... Cruise control is GREAT for keeping a constant heart rate (optimal training) and for recovering from an injury. You can maintain the same speed and physical exertion regardless of small ups and downs. A really pleasant riding experience. Another great thing are all the stats and changeable Voltage limits for the battery. The battery is the most expensive part on a ebike, so that capability can really prolong it's service life. The only thing I would change on this bike are the tires. I recently changed to a Schwalbe "balloon" tire and I'm NEVER going back to regular ones. It really is like an additional suspension. (Schwalbe - Big Ben Plus, Super Moto-X, Crazy Bob...) Great review as always!
Yes the very well known brand name and highly regarded reputation Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires that is often used for long distance cycle touring situations in the 45mm size about is about 1.75 inch equivalent(just about the largest one can fit) would give one a very plush and silky balloon cushion shock free ride indeed while at the same time retaining ones puncture resistance that Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires are so well known and regarded for having the built in and integrated 5mm Schwalbe blue puncture guard liner; is basically quite an unbeatable cycling comfort and puncture resistant option to get for ones CCS bike.
I would opt for for serviceability to aethetics any day.. Being a hub motor. The price ang availability of the parts like the cranks, makes it possible to replace them myself.. Pricepoint is just right.. Gonna buy one for a commuter for sure
As a current owner of a Juiced ODK 500, my two main complaints seem to carry over to the newer generation of bikes from Juiced. They are bike weight and motor noise. The geared bafang motors make too much noise for my tastes and the bike weighing nearly 80 lbs is a bug downside.
Where I live in Canada, this bike is about the same price as the Voltbike Enduro. Would you say they are comparable in terms of power and uphill performance? I am interested in street and moderate trails, so I don't think I need rear suspension, especially if a sprung seatpost like the Kinekt offered by Juiced would make a reasonable substitute. Any thoughts? Am I wrong in thinking these bikes are similar in capabilities? To me it looks like weighing the relative value of the rear suspension vs hydraulic brakes. From what you say, the CrossCurrent might be the more pleasant riding experience around town and on fairly smooth trails in terms of naturalness of response to the rider's input. One thing I don't see you mention is the feel of the bikes in terms of frame geometry-how secure and natural does the bike feel when transitioning into a turn, in particular. Finally, how about the hands-off stability of both of these-a characteristic I value. It's handy to be able to ride that way sometimes, like when you need to have your hands free for a moment or you just need to change your posture for a break. Thanks for your detailed reviews!
I have the new cc air 1.1 650 watt motor. love the bike i have just weny over 750 miles great ride for the price just need to upgrade to the suspension front fork. But great bike.
Quick question Tora!!!! Does the RipCurrent S's Computer also allow you to change the speed settings? So when I purchase one of your bikes, when it arrives, if the speed is set at 20mph will the RipCurrent LCD display allow me to increase the max to 28mph as this CrossCurrent does?
I'm between this and the Flash V1, any recommendation's either way? Or something even better? 5'7 190LB male, mostly city riding, car replacement. Thank you in advance!
What's the advantage of a this bike vs a scooter I saw the zero 10x scooter rated as 40mph and its cheaper. just because it has a seat? I would still go with a scooter that does 40mph
I was looking at the zero 10x also. Advantages of the crosscurrent: price....you can get the X for the same'ish price, exercise, much larger battery, assistt to battery, better long range mileage, and the fact you can ride home instead of pushing a scooter.
I already have a scooter for a month now after riding a bike for years. I like it much better... If god forbid you have an accident no matter bike or scooter they both are bad. I think a scooter is better because on a bike you're stuck on your seat there's nothing you can on a impact whereas a scooter I'm standing so you can still try to jump away, you will fall down to the ground but you can try to avoid the impact
Is this a good candidate for use in a humid area near the gulf coast of Florida? Not on the beach directly. Mainly roadway and trails alongside the roads. Temperatures can reach up to 90-100 with 100 percent humidity in the summer. Corrosion is common from the hot salty humid air and aggressive on steel and dark matte plastics most notably. Thanks for any suggestions. Trying to stay around 1k
Love all your reviews! I'm 48 and looking for a EBike in the under $2000 price range. Since you review all types of Ebikes could you recommend a ebike for me for that price range? Thinking of the Juiced bikes but would like your opinion on the best value for the money. Live in Massachusetts and don't see too many Ebikes at dealerships....
Awesome review. I have an air 500w and love it. Tora has been helpful with some ordering problems and torque sensor upgrade questions I’ve had. Wish the S was in stock a few weeks ago!
I am in the market for a class 3 electric bike with a thumb throttle for around $1500. I was thinking of buying the original crosscurrent, is it worth buying? Or is the Crosscurrent S worth the extra $300?
Hey Tora. Are you shipping any s’s in January. I noticed that now showing February shipping preorders. Can’t wait to get mine. I love what you’re doing at Juiced
I placed an order for a juiced crosscurrent air and got an email that the bike shipped. But there are no updates after that. Customer Service says the bikes will be shipped on the day after the UPS mailing label is created.(UPS will be picking them up). But UPS says there are no updates since the sender hasn't handed over the product to UPS yet. The company lacks co-ordination. They are currently uploading videos about SCRAMBLER but they really need to focus on the bikes that have already been purchased by customers. Customer service keeps lying again and again. They probably just want to retain customers by creating shipping labels. I don't think the bikes really worth the wait. WHY THE FALSE INFO?
I received my crosscurrent x April 3 but I did not receive the charger and the parts needed to put bike together. After telling them this I did not receive a tracking number or any parts for two weeks when I emailed them asking for tracking number I found out the parts had been delivered to someone else. Then after asking them to overnight or at least priority the parts I have been waiting another two weeks still they haven't even shipped parts yet
This company is too cheap or Greedy to overnight or priority parts to me I needed bike for physical therapy on my metal knee, Ive been waiting almost a month and still they have not sent parts bike can not be charged or ridden since the parts to put front wheel on are not here. Almost $3,000 for a bike I still can't ride
This company is too busy taking people's money to spend a minute on customer service and one lady hung up on me when I called and complained. Buy this bike at your own risk!
Thanks for the nice reviews that you are making ! Can you make a comparison of Juiced Crosscurrent S2 and Sondors XS : both being 750W and same price . Thanks in advance:)
Tora I have a question about frame size I'm 6' & 31" inseam and according to your chart I'm in the large frame 18" group. How much difference is there in length of the top tube in 18" vs 20" frame size, your chart does not show the top tube length. What frame size fits you better. Thank you Steve
Tora Harris Thanks for the information, Your Current S looks great compared to others on the market but man your HYPE is awesome looking I want both, hard choices ahead. When is Hype ready!!!!!
I was looking at the Juiced Rip Current S and the Rad Rover My friend bought the Rad Rover last month and loves it. The battery never runs out of charge after a long beach ride.
The CCS bike comes with the default 12.8ah lithium ion battery; to upgrade from 12.8ah to 17ah lithium ion battery is an additional $300, to upgrade from 12.8ah to 21ah lithium ion battery is $700 additional.
edwin pringle They've been pretty responsive to me: they answer my questions when I open it support tickets timely and they restocked the marathon Plus Tires the day after they ran out. And I like that they're changing things because it shows that they're listening to the consumer, like how they upgraded the spokes because they were breakage problems and reinforced their shipping packaging. I've been researching reviews for the past month and then they're pretty much all positive for Juiced. Sure some people have had to wait for their bikes, but I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Cross Currents S. Best bike I can find for the price.
Apparently there's another batch inbound. I didn't want to wait for the larger battery size (first ebike), so I ordered a CCS 13Ah in black. It's in transit and arrives next week. If you're stuck on the larger battery sizes, you'll be waiting a bit. They go fast.
