Julie Harris was one of a kind -- one of the few Broadway actors who didn't mind touring. I saw her in a touring production of Driving Miss Daisy. It's one of the best performances I've ever seen.

I was fortunate to see her in Driving Miss Daisy with Brock Peters and Stephen Root as well, 1989, I believe.

She was brilliant as an actress, but she also exuded a genuine, touching sensitivity, that quality which helps separate the great actor from the good actor. Very rare. On stage, you couldn't take your eyes off her, and when she was out of a scene, you looked constantly to the wings, anticipating her return. I remember in the largely forgettable (except for her) TV movie, "The Christmas Tree," how I sobbed when she said goodbye to "Tree." How many actresses could produce sobs from an audience by simply saying goodbye to a tree? Not many. But additionally, she was a gracious and lovely woman, just the way you'd think she would be. Also rare. She is sorely missed.

Julie Harris was the most gifted stage actress of the 20th Century! I saw her perform The Belle of Amherst live in 1976.Her genius in resurrecting Emily Dickinson made me forget that it wasn't Julie I was observing but the great shy poet herself! Kudos to Miss Harris for all her other great masterpiece performances!

Julie Harris was one of the great American stage actors of all time. But to the general public she was best known for Knots Landing. Odd that they didn't even mention it!

Alec Baldwin mentioned it.

I think it is incredibly sad if that is what she is remembered for. Even if you go to her Wikipedia page the tone and emphasis is film and TV. Sad

It would have been cool to have Joan Van Ark participate. Momma Lillimae and her sweet pea Valene. Julie Harris was a big part of Knots Landing. Alec Baldwin and Michelle Lee was a nice touch of Knots Landing though.
